स्वर्णरमन्तरिक्षाणि रोचना द्यावाभूमी पृथिवीं स्कम्भुरोजसा । पृक्षा इव महयन्तः सुरातयो देवा स्तवन्ते मनुषाय सूरयः
The shining ones have propped up the midspaces, the luminous realms, heaven and earth, and the wide earth with their might; exalting like streams, the generous gods praise with hymns for the benefit of humankind.
मित्राय शिक्ष वरुणाय दाशुषे या सम्राजा मनसा न प्रयुच्छतः । ययोर्धाम धर्मणा रोचते बृहद्ययोरुभे रोदसी नाधसी वृतौ
Serve Mitra, honor Varuna, the generous, those two sovereigns who do not fail in thought; whose abode shines with righteousness, whose greatness fills both heaven and earth, unshaken in strength.
या गौर्वर्तनिं पर्येति निष्कृतं पयो दुहाना व्रतनीरवारतः । सा प्रब्रुवाणा वरुणाय दाशुषे देवेभ्यो दाशद्धविषा विवस्वते
The cow, moving along her path, circles back, giving milk, steadfast in her vow, never failing; she, speaking forth, gives to Varuna, the generous, and to the gods, offering the oblation to Vivasvat.
दिवक्षसो अग्निजिह्वा ऋतावृध ऋतस्य योनिं विमृशन्त आसते । द्यां स्कभित्व्यप आ चक्रुरोजसा यज्ञं जनित्वी तन्वी नि मामृजुः
Heaven-dwellers, with tongues of fire, increasers of truth, sit contemplating the womb of truth; having propped up the sky with their might, they made the sacrifice, straightening their forms.
परिक्षिता पितरा पूर्वजावरी ऋतस्य योना क्षयतः समोकसा । द्यावापृथिवी वरुणाय सव्रते घृतवत्पयो महिषाय पिन्वतः
The two guardians, ancient and recent fathers, dwelling together in the womb of truth; Heaven and Earth, for Varuna, steadfast in law, pour forth ghee-rich milk for the mighty one.
पर्जन्यावाता वृषभा पुरीषिणेन्द्रवायू वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा । देवाँ आदित्याँ अदितिं हवामहे ये पार्थिवासो दिव्यासो अप्सु ये
We call upon Parjanya, the Wind, the mighty Bulls who pour down, Indra and Vāyu, Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman; the gods, the Ādityas, and Aditi, those who dwell on earth, those who are in heaven, and those who are in the waters.
त्वष्टारं वायुमृभवो य ओहते दैव्या होतारा उषसं स्वस्तये । बृहस्पतिं वृत्रखादं सुमेधसमिन्द्रियं सोमं धनसा उ ईमहे
We invoke Tvaṣṭṛ, Vāyu, the Ṛbhus—whoever is to be called—the divine Hotṛs, Uṣas for well-being; we seek Bṛhaspati, the slayer of Vṛtra, wise and powerful, Soma, and the Wealth-givers.
ब्रह्म गामश्वं जनयन्त ओषधीर्वनस्पतीन्पृथिवीं पर्वताँ अपः । सूर्यं दिवि रोहयन्तः सुदानव आर्या व्रता विसृजन्तो अधि क्षमि
The gods generated prayer, cattle, horses, plants, forest trees, the earth, mountains, and waters; they caused the sun to rise in the sky, the generous ones, releasing the noble laws upon the earth.
भुज्युमंहसः पिपृथो निरश्विना श्यावं पुत्रं वध्रिमत्या अजिन्वतम् । कमद्युवं विमदायोहथुर्युवं विष्णाप्वं विश्वकायाव सृजथः
You, Aśvins, rescued Bhujyu from distress, you brought forth the dark son of Vadhrimatī; you, young ones, delighted in the desire of Kamadyu, you released Viṣṇāpva for the all-formed one.
पावीरवी तन्यतुरेकपादजो दिवो धर्ता सिन्धुरापः समुद्रियः । विश्वे देवासः शृणवन्वचांसि मे सरस्वती सह धीभिः पुरंध्या
Pāvīravī, the single-footed offspring of the Thunderer, the supporter of heaven, the river, the ocean-born; may all the gods listen to my words—Sarasvatī, together with the wise and bountiful Puramdhi.
विश्वे देवाः सह धीभिः पुरंध्या मनोर्यजत्रा अमृता ऋतज्ञाः । रातिषाचो अभिषाचः स्वर्विदः स्वर्गिरो ब्रह्म सूक्तं जुषेरत
All the gods, with wisdom and Puramdhi, worshipful by mind, immortal, knowers of truth, givers of gifts, helpers, knowers of light, singers of heaven—may they accept this hymn and sacred utterance.
देवान्वसिष्ठो अमृतान्ववन्दे ये विश्वा भुवनाभि प्रतस्थुः । ते नो रासन्तामुरुगायमद्य यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
Vasiṣṭha has honored the immortal gods, who have pervaded all the worlds; may they grant us wide shelter today; may you always protect us with well-being.
देवान्हुवे बृहच्छ्रवसः स्वस्तये ज्योतिष्कृतो अध्वरस्य प्रचेतसः । ये वावृधुः प्रतरं विश्ववेदस इन्द्रज्येष्ठासो अमृता ऋतावृधः
I call upon the gods of great renown for well-being, those who have made light, the wise ones of the sacrifice; those who have strengthened the crossing, all-knowing, with Indra as chief, immortal, upholding truth.
इन्द्रप्रसूता वरुणप्रशिष्टा ये सूर्यस्य ज्योतिषो भागमानशुः । मरुद्गणे वृजने मन्म धीमहि माघोने यज्ञं जनयन्त सूरयः
Those born of Indra, commanded by Varuṇa, who have taken their share of the sun's light; to the hosts of Maruts, to the assembly, let us offer our thought; the noble ones have generated the sacrifice for the mighty.
इन्द्रो वसुभिः परि पातु नो गयमादित्यैर्नो अदितिः शर्म यच्छतु । रुद्रो रुद्रेभिर्देवो मृळयाति नस्त्वष्टा नो ग्नाभिः सुविताय जिन्वतु
May Indra with the Vasus protect our life; may Aditi with the Ādityas grant us shelter; may Rudra with the Rudras, the god, be gracious to us; may Tvaṣṭṛ with the goddesses impel us to good fortune.
अदितिर्द्यावापृथिवी ऋतं महदिन्द्राविष्णू मरुतः स्वर्बृहत् । देवाँ आदित्याँ अवसे हवामहे वसून्रुद्रान्सवितारं सुदंससम्
Aditi, Heaven and Earth, the great truth, Indra and Viṣṇu, the Maruts, the great light; the gods, the Ādityas, we call for help, the Vasus, the Rudras, and Savitṛ of good counsel.
सरस्वान्धीभिर्वरुणो धृतव्रतः पूषा विष्णुर्महिमा वायुरश्विना । ब्रह्मकृतो अमृता विश्ववेदसः शर्म नो यंसन्त्रिवरूथमंहसः
Sarasvatī with wisdom, Varuṇa of firm law, Pūṣan, Viṣṇu in greatness, Vāyu, the Aśvins; the immortal gods, makers of prayer, all-knowing—may they grant us shelter, threefold protection from harm.
वृषा यज्ञो वृषणः सन्तु यज्ञिया वृषणो देवा वृषणो हविष्कृतः । वृषणा द्यावापृथिवी ऋतावरी वृषा पर्जन्यो वृषणो वृषस्तुभः
Let the sacrifice be strong, let those worthy of sacrifice be strong, let the gods be strong, let the offerings be made with strength; strong are Heaven and Earth, upholding truth, strong is Parjanya, strong is the mighty singer.
अग्नीषोमा वृषणा वाजसातये पुरुप्रशस्ता वृषणा उप ब्रुवे । यावीजिरे वृषणो देवयज्यया ता नः शर्म त्रिवरूथं वि यंसतः
To Agni and Soma, strong for winning strength, much praised, I call; strong are those who are worshipped by the gods; may they grant us shelter, threefold protection, and safety.
धृतव्रताः क्षत्रिया यज्ञनिष्कृतो बृहद्दिवा अध्वराणामभिश्रियः । अग्निहोतार ऋतसापो अद्रुहोऽपो असृजन्ननु वृत्रतूर्ये
Firm in their vows, the royal ones, performers of sacrifice, shining in the great heaven, adorned with sacrifices; Agni, the Hotṛ, upholder of truth, free from harm, released the waters at the slaying of Vṛtra.
द्यावापृथिवी जनयन्नभि व्रताप ओषधीर्वनिनानि यज्ञिया । अन्तरिक्षं स्वरा पप्रुरूतये वशं देवासस्तन्वी नि मामृजुः
Heaven and Earth generated, according to law, the waters, the plants, and the forest trees, worthy of sacrifice; the gods spread the shining midspace for support, they shaped the forms of their own bodies.
धर्तारो दिव ऋभवः सुहस्ता वातापर्जन्या महिषस्य तन्यतोः । आप ओषधीः प्र तिरन्तु नो गिरो भगो रातिर्वाजिनो यन्तु मे हवम्
The upholders of heaven, the Ṛbhus with good hands, the winds, Parjanya, the mighty thunderers; may the waters and plants carry our songs forth, may Bhaga, the giver, and the strong come to my call.
समुद्रः सिन्धू रजो अन्तरिक्षमज एकपात्तनयित्नुरर्णवः । अहिर्बुध्न्यः शृणवद्वचांसि मे विश्वे देवास उत सूरयो मम
The ocean, the rivers, the region, the midspace, the one-footed offspring, the thunderer, the flood; may Ahi Budhnya listen to my words, and all the gods, and the noble ones as well.
स्याम वो मनवो देववीतये प्राञ्चं नो यज्ञं प्र णयत साधुया । आदित्या रुद्रा वसवः सुदानव इमा ब्रह्म शस्यमानानि जिन्वत
May we, O descendants of Manu, be for your divine favor; lead our sacrifice forward on the right path. Adityas, Rudras, Vasus—generous givers—may you inspire these hymns being recited.
दैव्या होतारा प्रथमा पुरोहित ऋतस्य पन्थामन्वेमि साधुया । क्षेत्रस्य पतिं प्रतिवेशमीमहे विश्वान्देवाँ अमृताँ अप्रयुच्छतः
The divine Hotars, the first priests, I follow with good intent on the path of truth. We seek the lord of the field, the neighbor; may all the immortal gods grant us their gifts.
वसिष्ठासः पितृवद्वाचमक्रत देवाँ ईळाना ऋषिवत्स्वस्तये । प्रीता इव ज्ञातयः काममेत्यास्मे देवासोऽव धूनुता वसु
The Vasishthas, like ancestors, have composed speech; the gods, desiring praise, like seers, for well-being. As kinsmen pleased, fulfilling desire, O gods, drive away misfortune from us.
देवान्वसिष्ठो अमृतान्ववन्दे ये विश्वा भुवनाभि प्रतस्थुः । ते नो रासन्तामुरुगायमद्य यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
Vasishtha has honored the immortal gods, who have extended through all worlds. May they grant us wide protection today; may you always guard us with blessings.
इमां धियं सप्तशीर्ष्णीं पिता न ऋतप्रजातां बृहतीमविन्दत् । तुरीयं स्विज्जनयद्विश्वजन्योऽयास्य उक्थमिन्द्राय शंसन्
The Father found this lofty insight, seven-headed, born of truth. He generated a fourth, universal offspring; from him arose the hymn of praise for Indra.
ऋतं शंसन्त ऋजु दीध्याना दिवस्पुत्रासो असुरस्य वीराः । विप्रं पदमङ्गिरसो दधाना यज्ञस्य धाम प्रथमं मनन्त
Proclaiming truth, shining straight, sons of heaven, heroes of the Asura, they uphold the wise one's path, the Angirases, holding the first abode of sacrifice in mind.
हंसैरिव सखिभिर्वावदद्भिरश्मन्मयानि नहना व्यस्यन् । बृहस्पतिरभिकनिक्रदद्गा उत प्रास्तौदुच्च विद्वाँ अगायत्
Like swans with their companions, speaking together, breaking stone enclosures, Brhaspati roared aloud; he sent forth a song, the wise one sang out high.
