Where your mind has wandered far to what has been and what will be, we bring it back here for dwelling and for life.
प्र तार्यायुः प्रतरं नवीय स्थातारेव क्रतुमता रथस्य । अध च्यवान उत्तवीत्यर्थं परातरं सु निरृतिर्जिहीताम्
Let us carry life across, as one who guides a chariot with skill; let decay depart, and let destruction move far away.
सामन्नु राये निधिमन्न्वन्नं करामहे सु पुरुध श्रवांसि । ता नो विश्वानि जरिता ममत्तु परातरं सु निरृतिर्जिहीताम्
With song, wealth, and food, we make abundant fame; let the singer cherish all things for us, and let destruction move far away.
अभी ष्वर्यः पौंस्यैर्भवेम द्यौर्न भूमिं गिरयो नाज्रान् । ता नो विश्वानि जरिता चिकेत परातरं सु निरृतिर्जिहीताम्
May we be strong with heroic deeds, like heaven, earth, and mountains; let the singer perceive all things for us, and let destruction move far away.
मो षु णः सोम मृत्यवे परा दाः पश्येम नु सूर्यमुच्चरन्तम् । द्युभिर्हितो जरिमा सू नो अस्तु परातरं सु निरृतिर्जिहीताम्
Soma, do not give us over to death; let us see the rising sun. Let old age be set aside by the gods for us, and let destruction move far away.
असुनीते मनो अस्मासु धारय जीवातवे सु प्र तिरा न आयुः । रारन्धि नः सूर्यस्य संदृशि घृतेन त्वं तन्वं वर्धयस्व
Giver of life, hold our minds for living; extend our life for us. Make us rejoice in the vision of the sun; with ghee, nourish our bodies.
असुनीते पुनरस्मासु चक्षुः पुनः प्राणमिह नो धेहि भोगम् । ज्योक्पश्येम सूर्यमुच्चरन्तमनुमते मृळया नः स्वस्ति
Giver of life, restore our sight, restore our breath here for enjoyment. May we see the rising sun for a long time; O Anumati, grant us well-being.
पुनर्नो असुं पृथिवी ददातु पुनर्द्यौर्देवी पुनरन्तरिक्षम् । पुनर्नः सोमस्तन्वं ददातु पुनः पूषा पथ्यां या स्वस्तिः
Let earth give us life again, let the divine sky and atmosphere give us life again. Let Soma give us our bodies again, let Pūṣan grant us the path and well-being again.
शं रोदसी सुबन्धवे यह्वी ऋतस्य मातरा । भरतामप यद्रपो द्यौः पृथिवि क्षमा रपो मो षु ते किं चनाममत्
May heaven and earth, the close and youthful mothers of truth, bring blessings. If there is any harm, let heaven, earth, and the ground remove it; may none of it remain with you.
अव द्वके अव त्रिका दिवश्चरन्ति भेषजा । क्षमा चरिष्ण्वेककं भरतामप यद्रपो द्यौः पृथिवि क्षमा रपो मो षु ते किं चनाममत्
Twice and thrice medicines move through the sky; one moves upon the earth. If there is any harm, let heaven, earth, and the ground remove it; may none of it remain with you.
समिन्द्रेरय गामनड्वाहं य आवहदुशीनराण्या अनः । भरतामप यद्रपो द्यौः पृथिवि क्षमा रपो मो षु ते किं चनाममत्
Indra, guide the cow and the draught animal, who brought the chariot of the Ushinaras. If there is any harm, let heaven, earth, and the ground remove it; may none of it remain with you.
आ जनं त्वेषसंदृशं माहीनानामुपस्तुतम् । अगन्म बिभ्रतो नमः
We have come to the assembly of the mighty, to those praised among the great, bearing reverence.
असमातिं नितोशनं त्वेषं निययिनं रथम् । भजेरथस्य सत्पतिम्
To the unopposed, the shining, the powerful chariot, we seek the true lord of the chariot.
यो जनान्महिषाँ इवातितस्थौ पवीरवान् । उतापवीरवान्युधा
He who, endowed with purity, has surpassed people like a buffalo; even with weapons, he is pure.
यस्येक्ष्वाकुरुप व्रते रेवान्मराय्येधते । दिवीव पञ्च कृष्टयः
In whose ordinance Ikṣvāku prospers with delight, five tribes flourish for the sake of longevity, as in heaven.
इन्द्र क्षत्रासमातिषु रथप्रोष्ठेषु धारय । दिवीव सूर्यं दृशे
O Indra, uphold sovereignty in assemblies and on the chariot's seat, visible like the sun in the sky.
अगस्त्यस्य नद्भ्यः सप्ती युनक्षि रोहिता । पणीन्न्यक्रमीरभि विश्वान्राजन्नराधसः
You yoke the red steeds of Agastya to the waters; the Paṇis you have overcome, O king, you have crossed all the hostile ones.
अयं मातायं पितायं जीवातुरागमत् । इदं तव प्रसर्पणं सुबन्धवेहि निरिहि
This one has come to his mother, this one to his father, this one to the living; this, your movement, O Subandhu, go forth, come out.
यथा युगं वरत्रया नह्यन्ति धरुणाय कम् । एवा दाधार ते मनो जीवातवे न मृत्यवेऽथो अरिष्टतातये
As they bind the yoke with three straps for support, so I fasten your mind for life, not for death, but for unharmed continuance.
यथेयं पृथिवी मही दाधारेमान्वनस्पतीन् । एवा दाधार ते मनो जीवातवे न मृत्यवेऽथो अरिष्टतातये
As this great earth holds these trees, so I fasten your mind for life, not for death, but for unharmed continuance.
यमादहं वैवस्वतात्सुबन्धोर्मन आभरम् । जीवातवे न मृत्यवेऽथो अरिष्टतातये
What mind I have taken from Yama, from Vaivasvata, from Subandhu, I restore for life, not for death, but for unharmed continuance.
न्यग्वातोऽव वाति न्यक्तपति सूर्यः । नीचीनमघ्न्या दुहे न्यग्भवतु ते रपः
The wind blows downward, the sun sets downward; the cow yields downward—so may your illness descend downward.
अयं मे हस्तो भगवानयं मे भगवत्तरः । अयं मे विश्वभेषजोऽयं शिवाभिमर्शनः
This hand of mine is divine, this hand of mine is more divine; this hand of mine is all-healing, this is auspicious to the touch.
इदमित्था रौद्रं गूर्तवचा ब्रह्म क्रत्वा शच्यामन्तराजौ । क्राणा यदस्य पितरा मंहनेष्ठाः पर्षत्पक्थे अहन्ना सप्त होतॄन्
This, thus, is the fierce, praised speech, the sacred utterance, with will and power between the two kings; when his parents, most generous, protected him, he struck down the seven priests at the altar.
स इद्दानाय दभ्याय वन्वञ्च्यवानः सूदैरमिमीत वेदिम् । तूर्वयाणो गूर्तवचस्तमः क्षोदो न रेत इतऊति सिञ्चत्
He, indeed, for giving and for conquering, striving with strength, measured out the altar with sacrifices; eager, uttering the praised speech, he poured forth the seed like a stream, as the pressing stone pours.
मनो न येषु हवनेषु तिग्मं विपः शच्या वनुथो द्रवन्ता । आ यः शर्याभिस्तुविनृम्णो अस्याश्रीणीतादिशं गभस्तौ
Those in whose offerings the mind, sharp, excels with skill, swift, who, with arrows, the mighty one, has stretched out his two arms, as if to the directions.
कृष्णा यद्गोष्वरुणीषु सीदद्दिवो नपाताश्विना हुवे वाम् । वीतं मे यज्ञमा गतं मे अन्नं ववन्वांसा नेषमस्मृतध्रू
When the dark ones sat among the cows, I call to you, O Aśvins, offspring of heaven; come to my sacrifice, come to my food, you who are eager, do not forget me, O leaders.
प्रथिष्ट यस्य वीरकर्ममिष्णदनुष्ठितं नु नर्यो अपौहत् । पुनस्तदा वृहति यत्कनाया दुहितुरा अनुभृतमनर्वा
Firm is his heroic deed, well-performed, which the men have not cast aside; again that which was carried by the daughter, the slender one, is raised up, the support of the bearer.
