Whatever I seek from you, grant that, O Indra—a great, unsurpassed dwelling among people; may heaven and earth together praise that—grant us, O mighty one, splendid, abundant wealth.
I am the ancient lord of riches; I ever win treasures for the lasting; people invoke me as a father; I distribute food to the worshiper.
I am Indra, the barrier, the strength of Atharvan; I begot the cows for Trita, over the mighty; I have bestowed manliness upon the noble, not upon the foe; I gave the clans to Dadhichi and Mātariśvan.
For me, Tvaṣṭṛ fashioned the iron thunderbolt; the gods placed their power in me; my visage is as hard to overcome as the sun's; by my deeds and actions, they honor me.
I bestow this wealth of cows, horses, and gold, abundant, shining, to the worshiper; I heap up many thousands for the devotee, when the Soma-offering and hymns have gladdened me.
I, Indra, have never been defeated or stood aside for death; those who press Soma, let them ask me for wealth; O Pūru, you do not fail in friendship with me.
I overcame those who, eager for horses, prepared the thunderbolt for battle; when challenged, I struck down the hostile, the strong, the arrogant, and those who would not bow.
I am one, yet I contend with many; what can two or three do? Like a thresher, I strike down many enemies; why do those who are not Indra revile me?
I brought food to the Guṅgus and Atithigvas; I sustained the people as a slayer of Vṛtra; whether against Parṇaya or Karañja, I was heard in the great Vṛtra-slaying.
Let the one who bows to me obtain food and strength; let him make friendship with the cow-giver; when I am honored in assemblies, I bring forth what is praiseworthy and worthy of hymns.
Soma is not seen here, nor does he appear openly; he makes this one manifest; he, the bull with sharp horns, eager for battle, stands bound within, with his two hands.
I do not violate the ordinance of the Ādityas, Vasus, or Rudras—the god among gods; may they fashion me for prosperity, unconquered, undefeated, unassailable.
I give to the singer the ancient wealth; I create the prayer that brings increase to me; I am the inspirer of the sacrificer, the witness in every contest.
The gods have called me Indra by name; the creatures of heaven, earth, and waters as well; I have yoked the two swift, strong bays; I have given the thunderbolt to the mighty.
I destroyed Atka for the sage with my might; I aided Kutsa with my powers; I am the smiter of Śuṣṇa, the restrainer of Vadhryaśva, who did not give the Aryan name to the Dasyu.
Like a father for his son, I aided Vetasu for his wish; I subdued Tugra for Kutsa and Smadibha; I am the inspirer of the sacrificer, the king, when I win the contest for the one who does not withhold the beloved.
I subdued Mṛgaya for Śrutarvan, when he sought my aid with his skill; I made the humble Vesha bow; I subdued Paḍgṛbhi for Savyā.
I am he who, like the slayer of Vṛtra, destroyed the Dāsa named Navavāstva and Bṛhadratha; who, when one sought to exalt and spread himself among men, cast him far off, beyond the shining expanse of the sky.
I move around the sun with swift horses, carried onward with force by the impelling ones; when the pressing stone, urged by men, calls to me, I bring down the Dāsa to be struck and subdued.
I am the sevenfold Nahusha, most powerful among the Nahushas; with might I made Turvasha and Yadu proclaim my greatness; with force I subdued another, the mighty one, and I overcame ninety-nine of the arrogant.
I, the bull, held back the seven flowing streams upon the earth, upon their courses; I, wise in action, cross over the waters, and with knowledge I seek the path for Manu's descendants.
I supported those streams at that time, when not even the god Tvaṣṭṛ could uphold them; the precious milk of cows, hidden in their udders, the sweet honey, the Soma pressed and pure.
