एन्द्रवाहो नृपतिं वज्रबाहुमुग्रमुग्रासस्तविषास एनम् । प्रत्वक्षसं वृषभं सत्यशुष्ममेमस्मत्रा सधमादो वहन्तु
Let Indra's team bring the lord, the thunder-armed king, the mighty ones, strong and powerful, bring him; let them bring the bull with true might, with us, to the shared feast.
एवा पतिं द्रोणसाचं सचेतसमूर्ज स्कम्भं धरुण आ वृषायसे । ओजः कृष्व सं गृभाय त्वे अप्यसो यथा केनिपानामिनो वृधे
Thus, unite with the lord who holds the vessel, who is mindful, who is the pillar of strength and support; take up vigor, grasp it, and in your own way, as those who are renowned for their deeds, grow in might.
गमन्नस्मे वसून्या हि शंसिषं स्वाशिषं भरमा याहि सोमिनः । त्वमीशिषे सास्मिन्ना सत्सि बर्हिष्यनाधृष्या तव पात्राणि धर्मणा
Come to us with riches, for I praise you and bring you the best wishes; approach, O Soma-bearer. You rule, you sit here, you are established on the sacred grass, and your vessels are secured by your law.
पृथक्प्रायन्प्रथमा देवहूतयोऽकृण्वत श्रवस्यानि दुष्टरा । न ये शेकुर्यज्ञियां नावमारुहमीर्मैव ते न्यविशन्त केपयः
The first divine offerings were made separately, glorious and hard to overcome; those who could not ascend the sacrificial ship, let them not settle among the wise.
एवैवापागपरे सन्तु दूढ्योऽश्वा येषां दुर्युज आयुयुज्रे । इत्था ये प्रागुपरे सन्ति दावने पुरूणि यत्र वयुनानि भोजना
Let those who are distant and those who are near be united; their horses, difficult to harness, are yoked. Thus, those who are earlier and those who are later are gathered where there are many acts and provisions.
गिरीँरज्रान्रेजमानाँ अधारयद्द्यौः क्रन्ददन्तरिक्षाणि कोपयत् । समीचीने धिषणे वि ष्कभायति वृष्णः पीत्वा मद उक्थानि शंसति
The trembling mountains held firm, the sky thundered, and the midspace was stirred in anger. The wise one, aligned, spreads out, and the mighty one, having drunk the exhilaration, proclaims hymns.
इमं बिभर्मि सुकृतं ते अङ्कुशं येनारुजासि मघवञ्छफारुजः । अस्मिन्सु ते सवने अस्त्वोक्यं सुत इष्टौ मघवन्बोध्याभगः
I hold this good goad for you, by which you break, O Maghavan, the hoofs of the enemy. In this pressing, let your power be present; in the offering, O Maghavan, be awake to the share.
गोभिष्टरेमामतिं दुरेवां यवेन क्षुधं पुरुहूत विश्वाम् । वयं राजभिः प्रथमा धनान्यस्माकेन वृजनेना जयेम
With cows, with barley, dispel far-off hostility, O much-invoked, and all hunger. May we, with the foremost kings, win wealth by our own assembly.
बृहस्पतिर्नः परि पातु पश्चादुतोत्तरस्मादधरादघायोः । इन्द्रः पुरस्तादुत मध्यतो नः सखा सखिभ्यो वरिवः कृणोतु
Let Brihaspati protect us from behind, from above, and from below, from harm. Let Indra be before us, and in the middle, our friend; may he make a path for friends.
दिवस्परि प्रथमं जज्ञे अग्निरस्मद्द्वितीयं परि जातवेदाः । तृतीयमप्सु नृमणा अजस्रमिन्धान एनं जरते स्वाधीः
Agni was first born from the sky; from us, the second, the knower of all births. The third, in the waters, is ceaselessly kindled; the self-born nurture him.
विद्मा ते अग्ने त्रेधा त्रयाणि विद्मा ते धाम विभृता पुरुत्रा । विद्मा ते नाम परमं गुहा यद्विद्मा तमुत्सं यत आजगन्थ
We know you, Agni, in threefold ways; we know your three abodes, widely distributed. We know your highest name, hidden; we know the source from which you have come.
समुद्रे त्वा नृमणा अप्स्वन्तर्नृचक्षा ईधे दिवो अग्न ऊधन् । तृतीये त्वा रजसि तस्थिवांसमपामुपस्थे महिषा अवर्धन्
In the ocean, you are kindled by the self-born; in the waters, by the seers; in the sky, Agni, you are the udder. In the third realm, you stand; in the lap of the waters, the mighty ones have increased you.
अक्रन्ददग्नि स्तनयन्निव द्यौः क्षामा रेरिहद्वीरुधः समञ्जन् । सद्यो जज्ञानो वि हीमिद्धो अख्यदा रोदसी भानुना भात्यन्तः
Agni roared, like thunder in the sky; the earth stirred, the plants were adorned. Born suddenly, he shone forth, kindled; the two worlds glow with his radiance within.
श्रीणामुदारो धरुणो रयीणां मनीषाणां प्रार्पणः सोमगोपाः । वसुः सूनुः सहसो अप्सु राजा वि भात्यग्र उषसामिधानः
He is the generous one, the support of riches, the fulfillment of thoughts, the guardian of Soma. The wealthy son of strength, king in the waters, shines foremost, kindled by the dawns.
विश्वस्य केतुर्भुवनस्य गर्भ आ रोदसी अपृणाज्जायमानः । वीळुं चिदद्रिमभिनत्परायञ्जना यदग्निमयजन्त पञ्च
He is the sign of all, the embryo of the world; born, he filled the two worlds. He even split the rock for the path, when five peoples worshipped Agni.
उशिक्पावको अरतिः सुमेधा मर्तेष्वग्निरमृतो नि धायि । इयर्ति धूममरुषं भरिभ्रदुच्छुक्रेण शोचिषा द्यामिनक्षन्
The pure, wise, and radiant one, Agni, immortal among mortals, is established. He sends forth smoke, reddish and bearing, with bright flame, he illuminates the sky.
दृशानो रुक्म उर्विया व्यद्यौद्दुर्मर्षमायुः श्रिये रुचानः । अग्निरमृतो अभवद्वयोभिर्यदेनं द्यौर्जनयत्सुरेताः
Shining, golden, he spreads widely; difficult to restrain, radiant for glory. Agni became immortal with two lives, when the sky, rich in seed, gave birth to him.
यस्ते अद्य कृणवद्भद्रशोचेऽपूपं देव घृतवन्तमग्ने । प्र तं नय प्रतरं वस्यो अच्छाभि सुम्नं देवभक्तं यविष्ठ
Whatever good, bright offering you make today, O god Agni, the cake rich in ghee, lead it forth, bring it to the wealthy one, to the favor, O youngest, beloved by the gods.
आ तं भज सौश्रवसेष्वग्न उक्थउक्थ आ भज शस्यमाने । प्रियः सूर्ये प्रियो अग्ना भवात्युज्जातेन भिनददुज्जनित्वैः
Distribute that to those who are famed, O Agni; with hymns, share what is praised. Beloved of the sun, beloved of Agni, he becomes, breaking forth with birth and with the act of creation.
त्वामग्ने यजमाना अनु द्यून्विश्वा वसु दधिरे वार्याणि । त्वया सह द्रविणमिच्छमाना व्रजं गोमन्तमुशिजो वि वव्रुः
O Agni, those who sacrifice have entrusted to you all treasures and desirable things across the days; desiring wealth with you, the Usij-s have opened up the cattle-rich enclosure.
अस्ताव्यग्निर्नरां सुशेवो वैश्वानर ऋषिभिः सोमगोपाः । अद्वेषे द्यावापृथिवी हुवेम देवा धत्त रयिमस्मे सुवीरम्
May Agni, the gracious one among men, the universal, with the seers, the guardians of Soma, stand firm; without enmity, let us call upon Heaven and Earth—may the gods grant us wealth and strong offspring.
प्र होता जातो महान्नभोविन्नृषद्वा सीददपामुपस्थे । दधिर्यो धायि स ते वयांसि यन्ता वसूनि विधते तनूपाः
The great Hotar, born, knowing the heavens, sits among men at the lap of the waters; he who is established, who is set, to him your powers go, who apportions wealth, the protector of the body.
इमं विधन्तो अपां सधस्थे पशुं न नष्टं पदैरनु ग्मन् । गुहा चतन्तमुशिजो नमोभिरिच्छन्तो धीरा भृगवोऽविन्दन्
Seeking him in the seat of the waters, they followed his tracks like lost cattle; the wise Bhṛgus, desiring him, found him hidden, wandering, with reverence.
इमं त्रितो भूर्यविन्ददिच्छन्वैभूवसो मूर्धन्यघ्न्यायाः । स शेवृधो जात आ हर्म्येषु नाभिर्युवा भवति रोचनस्य
Trita, seeking, found this abundant one, the radiant one on the head of the cow; he, born, brings prosperity in the houses, the navel, the youth, of the shining realm.
मन्द्रं होतारमुशिजो नमोभिः प्राञ्चं यज्ञं नेतारमध्वराणाम् । विशामकृण्वन्नरतिं पावकं हव्यवाहं दधतो मानुषेषु
With reverence, the Usij-s made the delightful Hotar, the leader of the sacrifice, the guide of the rites, forward; making him the joy of the people, the pure one, the bearer of offerings among men.
प्र भूर्जयन्तं महां विपोधां मूरा अमूरं पुरां दर्माणम् । नयन्तो गर्भं वनां धियं धुर्हिरिश्मश्रुं नार्वाणं धनर्चम्
The mighty, shining one, the wise, the unconfused, the ancient upholder of the cities, they led forth; carrying the embryo of the forests, the thought, the wise, tawny-bearded, the singer of praise.
नि पस्त्यासु त्रित स्तभूयन्परिवीतो योनौ सीददन्तः । अतः संगृभ्या विशां दमूना विधर्मणायन्त्रैरीयते नॄन्
Trita, being established in the dwellings, surrounded, sat in the womb, in the seat; from there, the house-lord, by his ordinances, with his restraints, leads men.
अस्याजरासो दमामरित्रा अर्चद्धूमासो अग्नयः पावकाः । श्वितीचयः श्वात्रासो भुरण्यवो वनर्षदो वायवो न सोमाः
His unfailing, house-mastering, shining flames of Agni blaze forth; white-tusked, roaring, resounding, forest-consuming, like winds, like Somas.
प्र जिह्वया भरते वेपो अग्निः प्र वयुनानि चेतसा पृथिव्याः । तमायवः शुचयन्तं पावकं मन्द्रं होतारं दधिरे यजिष्ठम्
With his tongue, Agni stirs up trembling, with his mind he perceives the paths of earth; the Ayus have placed him, the pure, shining, delightful Hotar, most fit for worship.
द्यावा यमग्निं पृथिवी जनिष्टामापस्त्वष्टा भृगवो यं सहोभिः । ईळेन्यं प्रथमं मातरिश्वा देवास्ततक्षुर्मनवे यजत्रम्
He whom Heaven and Earth, Agni, brought forth, whom the Waters, Tvaṣṭṛ, and the Bhṛgus with their might, whom Mātariśvan, worthy of praise, first, whom the gods fashioned for Manu as the worshipful one.
