Where, O Ashvins, is your dawn? Where is your dwelling? Where do you turn your faces? Who, like a widow her brother-in-law, invites you to her seat, as a maiden does a youth?
You drive at dawn, like an old woman with trembling, from house to house, honored with offerings; whose guests do you become, O men? Like princes, whose libations do you attend?
Like wild animals, O Ashvins, we call you at dawn with offerings; you two, as priests, are invoked by men; you bear the offerings for the people, O lords of beauty.
It was you, O Ashvins, whom Ghoṣā, the daughter of the king, invoked; she asked you, O men: 'Be present for me by day, be present for blessing, for the horseman, the charioteer, the able one.'
You are wise, O Ashvins, you drive your chariot around, like Kutsa the singer moves among the people; your honey-sweet gifts, O Ashvins, are sought after, like a woman seeks out her adornment.
You, O Aśvins, indeed rescued Bhujyu, you rescued Vaśa, you brought Śiñjāra and Uśanā up; your two neighing horses are bound in friendship, and I have sought your gracious favor for help.
You, O Aśvins, indeed delivered Kṛśa and Śayu, you set free Vidhanta and the widow; you, O Aśvins, released the lowing one from her companions, you opened the seven-mouthed pen.
A maiden was born, her garment falling, the plants grew up, following her teeth; for her the rivers flow as in a hollow, for her the day becomes her falling.
They weep for the living, they scatter at the sacrifice, men pursue a long course, striving; those who have agreed upon this with their fathers, the wives embrace their husbands with joy.
We do not know that, tell us truly: whether the youth dwells in the wombs of the young woman; may we, O Aśvins, enter the house of the beloved, splendid, virile one, the seed-giver—that we desire.
To you came gracious favor, O Aśvins, bestowers of horses; desires have entered hearts; become guardians, you two, splendid lords of couples, dear to Aryaman—may we reach the secure place.
O delighting ones, bring wealth with strong sons to the house of man for praise; make a ford easy to cross, O splendid lords, a firm standing place on the path, destroy ill-intent.
Where today, in which lands, O Aśvins, do you, wondrous lords, delight? Who has invited you, to whose house have you gone—of the inspired one or of the sacrificing host?
We call at dawn upon the same, much-invoked, hymn-loving, three-wheeled chariot, swift at the pressings, circling at the assembly, with beautiful praises.
You, O Nāsatyas, yoke at dawn and mount the honey-bearing chariot; with it you go among the worshipping peoples, O men, even to the sacrifice rich in offerings, O Aśvins.
Whether it is the priest with honeyed hands, the good-handed one, or the fire-kindler, skilled and devout, or the inspired one whose pressings you attend—come here, O Aśvins, to drink the honeyed draught.
Like a craftsman sharpening a tool, bring forth a fitting hymn for him; with speech, O inspired ones, let the noble utter the word, direct the singer's praise to Soma for Indra.
With milking, seek the cow, awaken the friend, O singer, rouse the aged Indra; like a vessel filled with wealth, ready to be poured, stir up the hero for the gift of riches.
What, O bountiful one, do they call you—enjoyer? I hear you are not to be enjoyed; let my prayer, O Śakra, bring us the portion of wealth, O Indra, bring us the share.
People call upon you, O Indra, in their true gatherings, standing together; here, whoever is offering, makes you a yoke-mate, O hero, he desires friendship with the one who pours not Soma.
He who, eager, offers you, O Indra, strong Soma, for him wealth flows abundantly; for him you strike down enemies and rivals in the morning, with your own weapon you slay the Vṛtra.
In whom we place our praise, in Indra, who has shown us favor, O bountiful one, fulfill our desire; even from afar let the enemy fear him, let all glories bow before him.
Drive the enemy far away, O mighty one, as you, much-invoked, have done before; grant us, O Indra, barley and cattle, bestow wisdom and prize-winning strength upon the singer.
The strong, abundant, and potent Somās have come to Indra; Maghavan does not restrain his generosity, but carries much wealth to the one who presses (the Soma).
Indeed, the swift and radiant one prevails, she who searches out what is done at the proper time; he who desires the gods does not withhold wealth, the self-sustaining one releases prosperity to the friend.
With cows, with barley, with all kinds of food, O much-invoked one, we would conquer distant enemies; may we, with our leaders, win the foremost riches by our own striving.
May Bṛhaspati protect us from behind, from above, and from below, from harm; may Indra protect us in front and in the middle, and as a friend, grant passage to his friends.
All our thoughts, radiant and harmonious, approach Indra, knowing the light; they embrace him as people embrace their lord, as a noble youth, Maghavan, for help.
My mind does not turn away from you, O Indra; in you alone, O much-invoked one, I place my desire; like a king, O wondrous one, sit upon this sacred grass, and let this Soma be your drink.
Indra, who increases abundance and removes hunger, is the lord of wealth; for him, in the channel, seven rivers grow strong, nourished by the might of the bull.
