In this glorious battle, O Indra, where there is tumult, you roar for victory; where the prize of cattle is sought among the bold, everywhere the flames of men fall.
Uncover for us, O Indra, a home full of abundance, wealth rich in cattle and renowned; may we, O mighty one, be victorious and prosperous, as we desire, grant us that, O generous one.
Whoever, whether Dasa or Arya, seeks to fight us, O Indra, praised by many, may our enemies be easily overcome; with you, may we pursue them in battle.
Who is to be invoked with small or great offerings, who brings help in need, O heroic one; him, the renowned, the near, we call today for aid—Indra, the hearer of prayers.
For I have heard of you, O Indra, as the generous one, the mighty bull, the inspirer of gifts; release yourself from the bonds of Kutsas and come here—why do you, the strong, remain bound among the weak?
Your well-yoked chariot, O Ashvins, is to be invoked at dawn and dusk with offerings; may we call upon that ever-helpful name of yours, like the name of a father, with loving praise.
Urge on our songs, fill our thoughts with abundance, stir up the inspired ones, grant us that; O Ashvins, grant us a share of glory, as Soma, the lovely one, is prepared for the generous.
Even for one who is not yet mature, you become support, O Bhaga; even for one who is helpless, you are the helpers; even for one who is blind, O Nasatyas, you are the guides; even for one who is weak, people call you the youthful healers; even for one who is silent, you are the physicians.
You restored Cyavana, old and worn, like a chariot, making him young again for movement; you removed the fierce one from the waters; all these deeds of yours are to be proclaimed in the sacrifices.
I will declare your ancient heroic deeds among the people; thus you, as healers, bring joy; now we seek your new help, O Nasatyas, as one places trust in a sharp blade.
I call upon you, hear me, O Ashvins; like fathers to a son, instruct me; let not my understanding be weak or unknowing among people; ward off the curse of that which is hostile.
With your chariot, you brought delight to Shundhyu; you carried away the wife of Purumitra; you responded to the call of Vadhrimatī; you granted easy childbirth to Purandhi.
You restored the youth of the sage who had grown old; you made Khela young again; you guided Vandana across the river; you made Viśpalā, suddenly, fit for racing.
You, O mighty ones, raised Rebha, hidden in the cave, who had nearly perished; you also restored the Ribhus, and the three who were heated, granting them life for the seven Vadhris.
You gave the white horse to Pedu, O Ashvins, with ninefold strength and ninety steeds; you granted the swift one, the companion who drives away foes, like Bhaga bestowing desirable offerings on men.
No king, from anywhere, can harm him; no evil, no misfortune, nor any fear reaches him whom you, O Ashvins, gracious and of Rudra's path, lead forward with his wife.
Come with that, swifter than thought, the chariot which the Ribhus made for you, O Ashvins; at whose yoking the daughter of the sky is born, and both days, the bright ones of Vivasvat, are renewed.
With that path, victorious, you cross the mountain; you caused the cow to yield her milk for the one lying down; even from the wolf's jaws, you freed the one seized, with your powers.
This praise we have composed for you, O Ashvins, like the Bhṛgus crafting a chariot; we have yoked the woman, like a maiden to a youth, as one always supports a son, a child.
Who, indeed, O men, welcomes your radiant chariot as you come for good fortune? Who, at dawn, receives you, the all-pervading, bringing gifts from house to house, bearing blessings with thought?
Where, O Ashvins, is your dawn? Where is your dwelling? Where do you turn your faces? Who, like a widow her brother-in-law, invites you to her seat, as a maiden does a youth?
You drive at dawn, like an old woman with trembling, from house to house, honored with offerings; whose guests do you become, O men? Like princes, whose libations do you attend?
Like wild animals, O Ashvins, we call you at dawn with offerings; you two, as priests, are invoked by men; you bear the offerings for the people, O lords of beauty.
It was you, O Ashvins, whom Ghoṣā, the daughter of the king, invoked; she asked you, O men: 'Be present for me by day, be present for blessing, for the horseman, the charioteer, the able one.'
You are wise, O Ashvins, you drive your chariot around, like Kutsa the singer moves among the people; your honey-sweet gifts, O Ashvins, are sought after, like a woman seeks out her adornment.
You, O Aśvins, indeed rescued Bhujyu, you rescued Vaśa, you brought Śiñjāra and Uśanā up; your two neighing horses are bound in friendship, and I have sought your gracious favor for help.
You, O Aśvins, indeed delivered Kṛśa and Śayu, you set free Vidhanta and the widow; you, O Aśvins, released the lowing one from her companions, you opened the seven-mouthed pen.
A maiden was born, her garment falling, the plants grew up, following her teeth; for her the rivers flow as in a hollow, for her the day becomes her falling.
They weep for the living, they scatter at the sacrifice, men pursue a long course, striving; those who have agreed upon this with their fathers, the wives embrace their husbands with joy.
We do not know that, tell us truly: whether the youth dwells in the wombs of the young woman; may we, O Aśvins, enter the house of the beloved, splendid, virile one, the seed-giver—that we desire.
