त आदित्या आ गता सर्वतातये वृधे नो यज्ञमवता सजोषसः । बृहस्पतिं पूषणमश्विना भगं स्वस्त्यग्निं समिधानमीमहे
Let those Ādityas come here for all our needs, may they protect our sacrifice together. We invoke Bṛhaspati, Pūṣan, the Ashvins, Bhaga; for welfare we invoke Agni, kindled.
तन्नो देवा यच्छत सुप्रवाचनं छर्दिरादित्याः सुभरं नृपाय्यम् । पश्वे तोकाय तनयाय जीवसे स्वस्त्यग्निं समिधानमीमहे
May the gods grant us eloquent speech, a protective shelter, O Ādityas, abundant and noble; for cattle, offspring, and life, we invoke Agni for well-being with kindled fire.
विश्वे अद्य मरुतो विश्व ऊती विश्वे भवन्त्वग्नयः समिद्धाः । विश्वे नो देवा अवसा गमन्तु विश्वमस्तु द्रविणं वाजो अस्मे
May all the Maruts today, all the supports, all the kindled fires, all the gods come to us with aid; may all wealth and strength be ours.
यं देवासोऽवथ वाजसातौ यं त्रायध्वे यं पिपृथात्यंहः । यो वो गोपीथे न भयस्य वेद ते स्याम देववीतये तुरासः
Whom the gods protect in the contest for strength, whom you guard, whom you deliver from distress; who, in your care, knows no fear among enemies—may we be swift for the favor of the gods.
उषासानक्ता बृहती सुपेशसा द्यावाक्षामा वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा । इन्द्रं हुवे मरुतः पर्वताँ अप आदित्यान्द्यावापृथिवी अपः स्वः
I invoke Uṣas and Night, lofty and beautiful; Heaven and Earth, Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman; Indra, the Maruts, the mountains, the waters; the Ādityas, Heaven and Earth, the waters, and the realm of light.
द्यौश्च नः पृथिवी च प्रचेतस ऋतावरी रक्षतामंहसो रिषः । मा दुर्विदत्रा निरृतिर्न ईशत तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे
May Heaven and Earth, wise and true to order, protect us from harm and injury; let misfortune and ill-will not rule over us; today we seek the favor of the gods.
विश्वस्मान्नो अदितिः पात्वंहसो माता मित्रस्य वरुणस्य रेवतः । स्वर्वज्ज्योतिरवृकं नशीमहि तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे
May Aditi, mother of Mitra and Varuṇa, rich in gifts, protect us from all harm; may we attain the radiant, sinless light; today we seek the favor of the gods.
ग्रावा वदन्नप रक्षांसि सेधतु दुष्वप्न्यं निरृतिं विश्वमत्रिणम् । आदित्यं शर्म मरुतामशीमहि तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे
Let the stone, sounding, drive away the demons, dispel evil dreams, and all misfortune; may we obtain the shelter of the Ādityas and the Maruts; today we seek the favor of the gods.
एन्द्रो बर्हिः सीदतु पिन्वतामिळा बृहस्पतिः सामभिरृक्वो अर्चतु । सुप्रकेतं जीवसे मन्म धीमहि तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे
Let Indra sit upon the sacred grass; let Iḻā nourish; let Bṛhaspati chant with the Sāma hymns; may we hold wise thought for life; today we seek the favor of the gods.
दिविस्पृशं यज्ञमस्माकमश्विना जीराध्वरं कृणुतं सुम्नमिष्टये । प्राचीनरश्मिमाहुतं घृतेन तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे
O Aśvins, make our sacrifice touch the sky, make it long-lived and gracious for our desire; may the offering, drawn eastward and poured with ghee, bring us the favor of the gods today.
उप ह्वये सुहवं मारुतं गणं पावकमृष्वं सख्याय शम्भुवम् । रायस्पोषं सौश्रवसाय धीमहि तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे
I call the kindly Marut host, pure and lofty, for friendship and happiness; may we hold wealth and fame; today we seek the favor of the gods.
अपां पेरुं जीवधन्यं भरामहे देवाव्यं सुहवमध्वरश्रियम् । सुरश्मिं सोममिन्द्रियं यमीमहि तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे
We bring forth the vast, life-giving waters, divine and gracious, the glory of sacrifice; may we obtain Soma, radiant and strong; today we seek the favor of the gods.
सनेम तत्सुसनिता सनित्वभिर्वयं जीवा जीवपुत्रा अनागसः । ब्रह्मद्विषो विष्वगेनो भरेरत तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे
May we, guided by the best guide, live, with living sons, free from sin; let those who hate the sacred word and all hostile ones be defeated; today we seek the favor of the gods.
ये स्था मनोर्यज्ञियास्ते शृणोतन यद्वो देवा ईमहे तद्ददातन । जैत्रं क्रतुं रयिमद्वीरवद्यशस्तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे
You who stand in the mind, worthy of sacrifice, hear us; whatever we desire from you, O gods, grant it; victorious wisdom, wealth, heroism, and fame—today we seek the favor of the gods.
महदद्य महतामा वृणीमहेऽवो देवानां बृहतामनर्वणाम् । यथा वसु वीरजातं नशामहै तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे
Today we seek the great favor of the great gods, vast and unbroken; so that we may possess wealth and heroic offspring—today we seek the favor of the gods.
महो अग्नेः समिधानस्य शर्मण्यनागा मित्रे वरुणे स्वस्तये । श्रेष्ठे स्याम सवितुः सवीमनि तद्देवानामवो अद्या वृणीमहे
May we attain the shelter of the great, kindled Agni, and blameless friendship with Mitra and Varuṇa for well-being; may we be foremost in the power of Savitṛ; today we seek the favor of the gods.
ये सवितुः सत्यसवस्य विश्वे मित्रस्य व्रते वरुणस्य देवाः । ते सौभगं वीरवद्गोमदप्नो दधातन द्रविणं चित्रमस्मे
All you gods of Savitṛ, of true power, of Mitra's law, of Varuṇa, grant us good fortune, wealth, cattle, and fame, and wondrous riches.
सविता पश्चातात्सविता पुरस्तात्सवितोत्तरात्तात्सविताधरात्तात् । सविता नः सुवतु सर्वतातिं सविता नो रासतां दीर्घमायुः
Savitṛ from behind, Savitṛ from before, Savitṛ from above, Savitṛ from below; may Savitṛ grant us all-encompassing prosperity, may Savitṛ bestow upon us long life.
नमो मित्रस्य वरुणस्य चक्षसे महो देवाय तदृतं सपर्यत । दूरेदृशे देवजाताय केतवे दिवस्पुत्राय सूर्याय शंसत
Homage to the vision of Mitra and Varuṇa, to the great god; honor that truth; praise the far-seeing, divine-born beacon, the son of heaven, Sūrya.
सा मा सत्योक्तिः परि पातु विश्वतो द्यावा च यत्र ततनन्नहानि च । विश्वमन्यन्नि विशते यदेजति विश्वाहापो विश्वाहोदेति सूर्यः
May that truth-speaking power protect me on all sides, and may Heaven and Earth, where the days are woven, guard me; whatever moves or enters all things, all the waters, and the Sun rises everywhere.
न ते अदेवः प्रदिवो नि वासते यदेतशेभिः पतरै रथर्यसि । प्राचीनमन्यदनु वर्तते रज उदन्येन ज्योतिषा यासि सूर्य
No false god dwells in your highest realm, where you, O Sun, drive your chariot with these rays; one path follows the east, and you, Sun, travel the expanse with your light.
येन सूर्य ज्योतिषा बाधसे तमो जगच्च विश्वमुदियर्षि भानुना । तेनास्मद्विश्वामनिरामनाहुतिमपामीवामप दुष्वप्न्यं सुव
With your light, O Sun, you dispel the darkness, and with your radiance you awaken all the world; by that, remove from us all that is unoffered, all evil and bad dreams, and bring us well-being.
विश्वस्य हि प्रेषितो रक्षसि व्रतमहेळयन्नुच्चरसि स्वधा अनु । यदद्य त्वा सूर्योपब्रवामहै तं नो देवा अनु मंसीरत क्रतुम्
Indeed, sent forth, you guard the order of all things, rising up, you follow your own law; whatever we declare to you today, O Sun, may the gods grant us that wisdom.
तं नो द्यावापृथिवी तन्न आप इन्द्रः शृण्वन्तु मरुतो हवं वचः । मा शूने भूम सूर्यस्य संदृशि भद्रं जीवन्तो जरणामशीमहि
May Heaven and Earth, may the Waters, may Indra, may the Maruts hear our call and our words; let us not fall into misfortune at the Sun’s sight—may we, living, grow old in happiness.
विश्वाहा त्वा सुमनसः सुचक्षसः प्रजावन्तो अनमीवा अनागसः । उद्यन्तं त्वा मित्रमहो दिवेदिवे ज्योग्जीवाः प्रति पश्येम सूर्य
May we always see you, O Sun, rising day by day, you who are friend of all, with good minds, clear sight, possessing offspring, free from sickness and guilt.
महि ज्योतिर्बिभ्रतं त्वा विचक्षण भास्वन्तं चक्षुषेचक्षुषे मयः । आरोहन्तं बृहतः पाजसस्परि वयं जीवाः प्रति पश्येम सूर्य
You, radiant and all-seeing, bearing great light, delight the eye with your shining form; as you ascend with your mighty power, may we, living, behold you, O Sun.
यस्य ते विश्वा भुवनानि केतुना प्र चेरते नि च विशन्ते अक्तुभिः । अनागास्त्वेन हरिकेश सूर्याह्नाह्ना नो वस्यसावस्यसोदिहि
By your sign, all beings move and settle, and with the nights they return and enter in; O golden-haired Sun, by your sinlessness, day by day, bring us prosperity and well-being.
शं नो भव चक्षसा शं नो अह्ना शं भानुना शं हिमा शं घृणेन । यथा शमध्वञ्छमसद्दुरोणे तत्सूर्य द्रविणं धेहि चित्रम्
Grant us blessing through your gaze, blessing by day, blessing with your radiance, blessing with your warmth, blessing with your light; as the path is blessed and the home is blessed, so, O Sun, bestow upon us splendid wealth.
अस्माकं देवा उभयाय जन्मने शर्म यच्छत द्विपदे चतुष्पदे । अदत्पिबदूर्जयमानमाशितं तदस्मे शं योररपो दधातन
O gods, grant us protection for both two-footed and four-footed beings, for both kinds of offspring; whatever is eaten, drunk, or enjoyed, may that, free from harm, bring us happiness and health.
यद्वो देवाश्चकृम जिह्वया गुरु मनसो वा प्रयुती देवहेळनम् । अरावा यो नो अभि दुच्छुनायते तस्मिन्तदेनो वसवो नि धेतन
Whatever wrong we have done to you, O gods, by speech or by mind, or any disrespect toward the divine, if anyone among us is hostile to us, O Vasus, place that guilt on him.
