Upon both, the hymn is placed—on the two who serve with the ladle, like a pair. Unrestrained in your ordinance, your good power abides and prospers for the sacrificer who presses Soma.
The Angirases first established the way, those who kindled the sacred fires with right action. They found all the food of the Panis, the horses, the cows, and the cattle, O men.
With sacrifices, Atharvan first trod the paths; from him, the sun, the guardian of order, was born. Let the wise Kāvyā come together with the cows; let us worship the immortal born of Yama.
Whether the sacred grass is spread for the lordship, or the hymn is proclaimed in the sky, where the stone speaks and the singer utters praise—there, indeed, Indra delights in the offerings.
Here is the Soma, O Indra, most powerful and bold—come! The atmosphere fills you with strength, as the sun with its rays.
Indra's steeds carry him, irresistible in might, to the praises of the seers and the sacrifice of men.
Mount your chariot, slayer of Vṛtra; your steeds are yoked by the hymn. May your mind turn towards us; may the stone, with its sound, bring you near.
Drink this Soma, O Indra, the greatest, immortal delight. The bright streams have flowed to you in the seat of truth.
Now offer worship to Indra and speak the hymns; the pressed, exhilarating Somas, O Indra, honor the mighty one, the eldest, with reverence.
No one, O Indra, is your equal in chariot-driving when you harness your two bays; no one matches you in speed, no one attains your wealth.
He alone gives wealth to the mortal who serves; Indra, the lord, unconquered, indeed.
When will Indra, indeed, listen to our songs, and swiftly come to the mortal in need, as one steps to a field?
Whoever, among many, calls you to the pressed Soma, O mighty one, to him your power belongs, O Indra, indeed.
Thus the cows drink the sweet, flowing honey; those who, together with Indra, rejoice in strength, shine, possessing wealth, following the sovereignty of the sun.
Those speckled ones, the Prishni cows, prepare Soma for him; dear to Indra, the cows urge on the thunderbolt and arrow, possessing wealth, following the sovereignty of the sun.
With homage, those wise, strong ones serve him; they accompany his many ancient ordinances, possessing wealth, following the sovereignty of the sun.
Indra, unconquered, slew the foes with the bones of Dadhichi—ninety and nine.
Seeking the horse’s head, hidden among the mountains, he found it, guided by the falcon.
There they followed the name of the cow, the lower form of Tvashtar, thus in the house of the moon.
Who today yokes the cows to the yoke of truth, eager, shining, with strong hearts? Their sisters are near in their hearts, bringing joy; who among them has fulfilled the service for life?
Who seeks, who is praised, who is feared, who thinks Indra is present, who is near? Who for offspring, who for wealth, who for himself, who for people, will declare?
Who desires Agni with oblation, with ghee, with ladle, with fixed seasons? For whom do the gods swiftly bear the offering? Who thinks the well-worshipped priest is good?
You alone, O god, most mighty, are praised; no one but you, O generous Indra, is a helper to mortals. I speak this word to you.
May your gifts, may your aids, O treasure-giver, never fail us at any time. Measure out to us all human wealth, O lord of people.
Those who shine forth, like races, the sons of Rudra, wise, set out; for the Maruts have made the two worlds grow, the heroes rejoice, eager in the contests.
They, the sprinkled ones, have attained greatness; the Rudras have established their seat in heaven. Praising, they produce the hymn, they generate strength; the speckled-mothered ones have taken up glory.
When the cows, adorned with bright ointments, move forth, their shining bodies bear the marks of beauty; they drive away every hostile force, and along their paths flows the clarified butter.
Those Maruts, resplendent, well-armed with spears, shake even the unshakable by their might; swift as thought, O Maruts, you yoke the spotted steeds to your chariots, a strong band of heroes.
When you yoke the spotted steeds to your chariots, O Maruts, speeding to the prize, you shatter the rock; the streams of the red one burst forth, and, like water on a hide, you scatter them over the earth.
Let the seven swift-moving ones bring you here, O Maruts, with agile strength; come forth with your arms, take your seat on the wide sacred grass, rejoice, O Maruts, in the sweet libation.
