Where is Indra heard today, in which people is he known? Like Mitra, is he not spoken of? Is he among the seers, or hidden, delighting in song?
Here, let Indra be heard by us today, praised, the wielder of the bolt, eager for hymns; like Mitra, among the people, he has made unequalled fame.
He is the lord of greatness, of unequalled might, the awakener of great manliness; the bearer of the bold bolt, a father to his dear son.
Yoked are the horses of the wind for the god, the god with the thunderbolt; flowing along the shining path, releasing, you praise the journey.
You, indeed, with the swift horses of the wind, by your own nature, carry forth; with whom, O god, no mortal can compete as driver or knower.
Then, those who come, eager for food, ask you as if for a home; you have come from afar, from heaven and from earth, to the mortal.
Come to us, Indra, for our praise, for our exalted hymn; for this we entreat you for help, when you struck down the human foe, Shushna.
The lawless Dasyu, without rites, hostile to us, without vows, inhuman— you, slayer of foes, strike down that Dasa, subdue him.
You, O Indra, hero among heroes, and your supporters, are exalted; in many places your gifts are spread, as the lands bow before you.
You urge those men to slay Vritra, O heroic Indra, wielder of the bolt; even when the wise, powerful among the people, are hidden.
Swiftly, O Indra, may those generous ones come to you, O heroic wielder of the bolt; when you, subduing Shushna, have destroyed all that was born together with him.
Let not your riches, O heroic Indra, be far from us; may we always be in your good favor, O wielder of the bolt.
May those true, harmless gifts be ours, O Indra; let us know the strength of those, like cows, O wielder of the bolt.
When the armless, footless ones grew strong with the powers of the wise, you, circling around, destroyed Shushna for all the people.
Drink, drink, O heroic Indra, the Soma; do not be harmed, being wealthy, be the possessor of wealth. Also protect the one who praises, O generous one, and grant us great, splendid riches.
Let us worship Indra, whose right hand wields the bolt, who rides the chariot drawn by the bay steeds; his beard shakes upwards, he is moved by armies, he is generous with gifts.
His bay steeds are known in the forest; Indra, the wealthy, the generous, the slayer of Vritra, is present with gifts. The skillful, the strong, the powerful, rules; I drive away even the name of the Dasa.
When you, O Indra, with your golden thunderbolt and chariot, with your two steeds, come forth among the wise, then Maghavan, renowned from ancient times, Indra, lord of long-famed strength, stands ready for the prize.
Then indeed, Indra, with your companions, you, the bull, shake your tawny beard; you descend to the pleasant dwelling at the pressing of the sweet Soma, stirring like the wind shakes the forest.
He who, with his voice, overcame those of discordant speech, who slew many thousands of foes—this, each of his heroic deeds, we celebrate; like a father, he increased his might for protection.
For you, Indra, the hymns and praises have been composed—unprecedented, most excellent for the generous one. We know indeed his bounty, his favor, as when herdsmen care for their cattle.
Let not this friendship be broken between us, nor the inspiration of your exhilaration, O Indra. For we know your favor, O god, as among kin; may your auspicious friendships be with us.
Indra, drink this Soma, rich in sweetness, pressed in the cup. Bestow wealth upon us; in your exhilaration, grant us abundant riches, O you of many possessions, for your favor.
We approach you with sacrifices, with hymns, with offerings, O lord of power, lord of the powerful. In your exhilaration, grant us the best reward, for your favor.
You are the lord of treasures, the inciter of the needy, Indra, protector of singers. In your exhilaration, protect us from enemies and from harm, for your favor.
You two, O mighty and skillful ones, together, in harmony, churned (the mixture); when inspired by exhilaration, you, the two Asvins, churned it.
All the gods assembled together when the two (Asvins) emerged in harmony; the gods said to the Asvins: 'Bring it back again.'
May my departure be sweet, and my return be sweet. O gods, by your divinity, may you both make for us what is done with sweetness.
Send us favorable winds for our mind, grant us skill and intelligence. Thus, in your friendship, O Soma, in your exhilaration, let our desires, like battle-horses to the pasture, be fulfilled for your favor.
Touched in the heart, you dwell in all abodes, O Soma. Thus, these desires of mine, in your exhilaration, stand ready for wealth, for your favor.
