Grant us well-being, O Agni, from heaven and earth; bestow all life for the sacrifice, O god. May we unite with your wondrous insights; make us spacious, O god, with your wide blessings.
These thoughts, O Agni, born for you, praise you with cattle and horses as reward. When a mortal, O gracious one, partakes of your enjoyment, supporting with thoughts, O well-born one.
I consider Agni as father, as mother, as brother, as constant friend. I worship the face of Agni, the great one, the bright, the adorable, like the sun in heaven.
May our thoughts be successful, O Agni, for us, the protector, who guards the house as the eternal Hotṛ. True to the order, with red horses, much-praised, may he bring us good fortune with shining days.
Like a friend, set in shining days, the ancient officiant, the spouse of the sacrifice. The priests generated Agni with their arms, and seated him as Hotṛ among the clans.
Offer the sacrifice yourself, O god among gods, in heaven; what can the unwise cooking do for you? Sacrifice to the gods with the proper seasons, O god; thus, offer yourself, O well-born one.
Be our protector, O Agni, and our guardian; make us youthful and grant us long life. Bestow upon us, O most generous, the gift of offerings; protect us, and let not our bodies fail.
With great radiance, Agni advances, the bull roars between heaven and earth. Even at the ends of heaven, the mighty one, the buffalo, has grown in the lap of the waters.
The embryo, the bull, rejoiced, bearing a hump; the shining calf, full of strength, bellowed. He, making the divine powers rise up, prevails first in his own abodes.
He who took hold of the head of his parents, the mighty one, was established in the sacrifice; the red mares with horse-yoked chariots delighted in his descent, in the womb of truth, in their own bodies.
Indeed, O Vasus, you came forth first at dawn; you became the light among the twins. For the truth you set seven steps, creating Mitra for your own self.
You are the eye of existence, the guardian of truth; you are Varuṇa when you move for truth. You are the offspring of the waters, Jātavedas; you are the messenger who delights in the offering.
You are the leader of sacrifice and of the realm; where you join with the auspicious helpers. In the sky you have set your head, shining; Agni, you have made your tongue the bearer of offerings.
Trita, by his will, chose the middle space, seeking the shelter of his father and the distant one. Seeking alliance in the lap of his parents, the kinsman, speaking, wields the weapons.
Knowing the ancestral weapons, urged by Indra, the descendant of Āpti fought. He struck down the three-headed, seven-rayed one; even Trita released the cows of Tvaṣṭṛ.
Indra, with abundant strength, overcame the one who thought himself most powerful; the good lord struck him down. Even of Tvaṣṭṛ, the all-shaped one, seizing the cows, he cut off the three heads.
Waters, come here, bringers of delight; grant us nourishment. Grant us vision for great contest.
That most auspicious essence of yours, let it be shared here with us, like loving mothers.
Therefore, let us approach you, in whose dwelling you inspire; O waters, may you also generate us.
May the divine waters, rich in blessings, be for our drinking; may they flow with well-being for us.
Mistresses of treasures, sustaining peoples, O waters, I ask for your healing remedy.
In the waters, Soma spoke to me: within them are all remedies, and Agni, the bringer of all blessings.
O waters, fill me with healing, protection for my body, and let me see the sun for a long time.
O waters, carry away from me whatever evil is in me, whatever wrong I have done, or falsehood, or curse.
O waters, today I have come among you; we have mingled with your essence. Come, Agni, full of milk; grant me radiance, do not take it away.
Let me choose friendship with a companion, crossing even a vast sea. May the wise one place the grandson of the father here, shining, on the earth as a bridge.
No friend desires such friendship with you, marked as it is, when one becomes of differing forms. Sons of the great, heroes of the Asura, sustainers of the vast expanse, they are renowned throughout the wide world.
Indeed, the immortals praise this of you, even regarding a single mortal born on earth. May your mind not be set upon us; may you not, desiring, enter into our bodies.
What we did before, let us not do now; let us not, speaking untruth, commit falsehood, O immortals. The Gandharva is in the waters, and the maiden as well; she is our navel, the highest kinship for us.
In the womb, our creator made us a couple—Kardama, Tvaṣṭṛ, Savitṛ of manifold forms. None transgresses his ordinances; both earth and heaven know the vessel of his wisdom.
