Twice five sisters, self-bright, joined together by the stone, pour out the beloved, desirable wave of Indra, swelling with their flood.
They purify that tawny, golden one with their stream, who, filled with exhilaration, goes forth together with all the gods.
By his help, may you protect us, O bringer of skill, who has established great fame among the seers, O golden, tawny one.
In your sacrifices, O Indu, the two worlds, Earth and Heaven, were born; god and goddess, mountain-dwelling, ever advancing, mighty in sound.
O Soma, you are poured out for Indra to drink, for the slayer of Vṛtra, and for the man who gives offerings, for the god who sits in his seat.
Those ancient Somas, in the dawns, flowed in the purifier; they surged forth, most abundant, pressed out, in the morning, unknowing.
That widely-shining one, O friends, both you and we, O seers, may we enjoy; may we attain the fragrance of strength, may we gain the wealth of vigor.
For the tawny, bold one, they stretch out strength; the great ones weave the bright, unpressed, clear stream for the mighty lord at the forefront.
Then, adorned through the night, the prize comes forth; when the thoughts of Vivasvat urge the tawny one to go.
We cleanse that exhilaration, which is most pleasing to Indra, which the cows have held in their udders, both formerly and now, O seers.
That one, purified by the ancient song, they have praised; and the inspired thoughts, bearing the names of the gods, have also rejoiced.
That one, streaming in the unaging stream, the mighty one they purify; as a messenger, mindful of what is before, the wise ones direct him.
Purified, Soma, most intoxicating, settles in the cups; like a bull depositing seed, the lord inspires speech and wisdom.
He is cleansed by skillful acts, the god pressed for the gods; when he is poured out, he penetrates the great waters.
Pressed, O Indu, you are led through the filter by men; you, most exhilarating for Indra, settle in the cups.
The honest ones call upon you for Indra's beloved delight; like mothers licking a newborn calf, they cherish the one newly born.
Purifying, O Indu, bring forth Soma, the twice-strong wealth; you foster all riches in the house of the worshipper.
You release wisdom yoked with mind, like rain from thunder; you, Soma, foster earthly and heavenly riches.
As the stream of the pressed one flows, so your current rushes forth; swiftly, like a racing horse, you move through the filter.
For resolve, for skill, for us, O wise Soma, purify with your stream; pressed for Indra to drink, for Mitra and Varuna as well.
Purify, bestower of strength, in the filter with your stream, pressed Soma; for Indra, for Vishnu, for the gods, most honeyed.
Mothers cherish you, the tawny one, in the filter, O pure; like cows a newborn calf, O purifying one, in your course.
Purifying one, you go forth with great fame, with brilliant rays; you strike down hostile powers in every house of the worshipper.
You, with great vow, embrace the sky and the earth; you release the covering, O purifying one, with your greatness.
Let the leaders prepare the Soma for pressing, for delight; friends, drive away the long-tongued dog.
He who, with stream and fire, flows forth pressed—Indu, like a horse, is fit for action.
Men approach that Soma, free from anger, with universal wisdom; they urge the sacrifice with stones.
The pressed Somas, most honeyed, gladden Indra; filtered, they flow, let your delights reach the gods.
Indu is purified for Indra, so the gods have said; lord of speech, master of sacrifice, ruler of all power.
With a thousand streams, Soma is purified, the ocean, seeking speech; Soma is lord of riches, companion of Indra day by day.
