एते सोमा अभि गव्या सहस्रा महे वाजायामृताय श्रवांसि । पवित्रेभिः पवमाना असृग्रञ्छ्रवस्यवो न पृतनाजो अत्याः
These Somas, seeking cattle, thousands strong, for great strength, for immortality, for fame; purified by filters, the flowing ones have rushed forth, glorious as chariot-fighters in battle.
परि हि ष्मा पुरुहूतो जनानां विश्वासरद्भोजना पूयमानः । अथा भर श्येनभृत प्रयांसि रयिं तुञ्जानो अभि वाजमर्ष
For you, much-invoked, purified among peoples, winning all food; now bring the offerings carried by the eagle, increasing wealth, rush toward the prize.
एष सुवानः परि सोमः पवित्रे सर्गो न सृष्टो अदधावदर्वा । तिग्मे शिशानो महिषो न शृङ्गे गा गव्यन्नभि शूरो न सत्वा
This pressed Soma flows around the filter, like a released stream, unimpeded; sharp-toothed, like a buffalo with horns, seeking cows, like a hero with strength.
एषा ययौ परमादन्तरद्रेः कूचित्सतीरूर्वे गा विवेद । दिवो न विद्युत्स्तनयन्त्यभ्रैः सोमस्य ते पवत इन्द्र धारा
She has gone forth from the farthest ridge, as if knowing the wide pastures, she has found the cows; like lightning from the sky thundering among the clouds, O Indra, the stream of your Soma is purified.
उत स्म राशिं परि यासि गोनामिन्द्रेण सोम सरथं पुनानः । पूर्वीरिषो बृहतीर्जीरदानो शिक्षा शचीवस्तव ता उपष्टुत्
You, Soma, purified, go around the herd of cows with Indra, yoked together; granting abundant, great, ancient gifts, bestow strength, O powerful one, let them praise you.
अयं सोम इन्द्र तुभ्यं सुन्वे तुभ्यं पवते त्वमस्य पाहि । त्वं ह यं चकृषे त्वं ववृष इन्दुं मदाय युज्याय सोमम्
This Soma, O Indra, I press for you, for you it is purified; you are its drinker, you have made it, you have strengthened it, Soma for delight, for harnessing.
स ईं रथो न भुरिषाळयोजि महः पुरूणि सातये वसूनि । आदीं विश्वा नहुष्याणि जाता स्वर्षाता वन ऊर्ध्वा नवन्त
He, like a chariot with broad seat, is yoked, bringing many great treasures for winning; all the offspring of Nahusha, born of the sun, move upward, delighting in the forest.
वायुर्न यो नियुत्वाँ इष्टयामा नासत्येव हव आ शम्भविष्ठः । विश्ववारो द्रविणोदा इव त्मन्पूषेव धीजवनोऽसि सोम
Like Vayu with his team, desired at the sacrifice, like the two Asvins at the call, most gracious; like the all-bestowing givers of wealth, like Pushan, swift in thought, so are you, Soma.
इन्द्रो न यो महा कर्माणि चक्रिर्हन्ता वृत्राणामसि सोम पूर्भित् । पैद्वो न हि त्वमहिनाम्नां हन्ता विश्वस्यासि सोम दस्योः
You, Soma, are like Indra, who has performed great deeds, the slayer of obstacles; you are the foremost, Soma. Like the thunderbolt-bearer, you are the destroyer of serpentine foes; Soma, you are the vanquisher of every enemy.
अग्निर्न यो वन आ सृज्यमानो वृथा पाजांसि कृणुते नदीषु । जनो न युध्वा महत उपब्दिरियर्ति सोमः पवमान ऊर्मिम्
You, Soma, are like Agni, released into the woods, who freely creates energies in the rivers. Like a warrior among people, Soma, you, purified, raise a mighty wave in battle.
एते सोमा अति वाराण्यव्या दिव्या न कोशासो अभ्रवर्षाः । वृथा समुद्रं सिन्धवो न नीचीः सुतासो अभि कलशाँ असृग्रन्
These Somas have crossed over the wide barriers, like celestial vessels pouring rain from the clouds. Like rivers flowing to the sea, the pressed Somas have streamed forth to the vessels.
शुष्मी शर्धो न मारुतं पवस्वानभिशस्ता दिव्या यथा विट् । आपो न मक्षू सुमतिर्भवा नः सहस्राप्साः पृतनाषाण्न यज्ञः
Mighty, like a host, you, Soma, purified, rush forth like the Maruts, unassailable as the heavens. Swift as waters, be our good fortune, you of a thousand streams, victorious in battles, the sacrifice.
राज्ञो नु ते वरुणस्य व्रतानि बृहद्गभीरं तव सोम धाम । शुचिष्ट्वमसि प्रियो न मित्रो दक्षाय्यो अर्यमेवासि सोम
Truly, the ordinances of King Varuṇa are yours; your abode, Soma, is vast and deep. You are most pure, beloved like Mitra, skillful, and Soma, you are like Aryaman.
प्रो स्य वह्निः पथ्याभिरस्यान्दिवो न वृष्टिः पवमानो अक्षाः । सहस्रधारो असदन्न्यस्मे मातुरुपस्थे वन आ च सोमः
The fire is set in motion along its paths; like rain from the sky, the purified Soma flows. With a thousand streams, Soma has settled for us in the lap of the mother, in the wood.
राजा सिन्धूनामवसिष्ट वास ऋतस्य नावमारुहद्रजिष्ठाम् । अप्सु द्रप्सो वावृधे श्येनजूतो दुह ईं पिता दुह ईं पितुर्जाम्
King of the rivers, you have chosen the best dwelling; you have mounted the swiftest boat of truth. In the waters, the drop has grown, yoked with the eagle; the father milks it, the father’s offspring milks it.
सिंहं नसन्त मध्वो अयासं हरिमरुषं दिवो अस्य पतिम् । शूरो युत्सु प्रथमः पृच्छते गा अस्य चक्षसा परि पात्युक्षा
They praise the lion, the strong, tawny one, the lord of the sky. The hero, foremost in battle, seeks the cows; with his gaze, the bull guards them all around.
* मधुपृष्ठं घोरमयासमश्वं रथे युञ्जन्त्युरुचक्र ऋष्वम् । स्वसार ईं जामयो मर्जयन्ति सनाभयो वाजिनमूर्जयन्ति
They yoke the fierce, honey-backed, formidable horse to the chariot, with broad wheels and high stature. His sisters and kin cleanse him; those of one womb strengthen the spirited one.
चतस्र ईं घृतदुहः सचन्ते समाने अन्तर्धरुणे निषत्ताः । ता ईमर्षन्ति नमसा पुनानास्ता ईं विश्वतः परि षन्ति पूर्वीः
Four milkers of ghee attend him, seated together in the same inner chamber. They purify him with reverence; they surround him from all sides, the ancient ones.
विष्टम्भो दिवो धरुणः पृथिव्या विश्वा उत क्षितयो हस्ते अस्य । असत्त उत्सो गृणते नियुत्वान्मध्वो अंशुः पवत इन्द्रियाय
The prop of heaven, the support of earth, all the worlds are in his hand. The well has settled, praised by the singers; the drop of sweetness flows, Soma, for strength.
वन्वन्नवातो अभि देववीतिमिन्द्राय सोम वृत्रहा पवस्व । शग्धि महः पुरुश्चन्द्रस्य रायः सुवीर्यस्य पतयः स्याम
Conquering, like a new wind, approach the divine rite, Soma, purifier, for Indra, the slayer of obstacles. Grant us the wealth of great, radiant glory; may we be lords of heroic strength.
प्र हिन्वानो जनिता रोदस्यो रथो न वाजं सनिष्यन्नयासीत् । इन्द्रं गच्छन्नायुधा संशिशानो विश्वा वसु हस्तयोरादधानः
Urged on, the creator of heaven and earth advances, like a chariot seeking the prize. Going to Indra, armed with weapons, he gathers all treasures in his hands.
अभि त्रिपृष्ठं वृषणं वयोधामाङ्गूषाणामवावशन्त वाणीः । वना वसानो वरुणो न सिन्धून्वि रत्नधा दयते वार्याणि
The songs have resounded to the strong, three-backed, youthful one. Clothed in the woods, like Varuṇa among rivers, he bestows precious gifts and grants riches.
शूरग्रामः सर्ववीरः सहावाञ्जेता पवस्व सनिता धनानि । तिग्मायुधः क्षिप्रधन्वा समत्स्वषाळ्हः साह्वान्पृतनासु शत्रून्
With a host of heroes, all-powerful, victorious, purify yourself, Soma, as the winner of wealth. With sharp weapons, swift bow, in battles, be fierce, subduing enemies in the contests.
उरुगव्यूतिरभयानि कृण्वन्समीचीने आ पवस्वा पुरंधी । अपः सिषासन्नुषसः स्वर्गाः सं चिक्रदो महो अस्मभ्यं वाजान्
With wide pastures, making all things fearless, flow together, O purifier, with the wise. Seeking the waters, the radiant dawns, resounding, bring us great prizes.
मत्सि सोम वरुणं मत्सि मित्रं मत्सीन्द्रमिन्दो पवमान विष्णुम् । मत्सि शर्धो मारुतं मत्सि देवान्मत्सि महामिन्द्रमिन्दो मदाय
Rejoice, Soma, in Varuṇa, rejoice in Mitra, rejoice in Indra, O purified drop, in Viṣṇu. Rejoice in the host of the Maruts, rejoice in the gods, rejoice greatly, O purified drop, for exhilaration.
एवा राजेव क्रतुमाँ अमेन विश्वा घनिघ्नद्दुरिता पवस्व । इन्दो सूक्ताय वचसे वयो धा यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
Thus, like a king with wisdom, purify yourself, destroying all evils. O drop, for the hymn and the word, grant us wings. Always protect us with blessings.
असर्जि वक्वा रथ्ये यथाजौ धिया मनोता प्रथमो मनीषी । दश स्वसारो अधि सानो अव्येऽजन्ति वह्निं सदनान्यच्छ
He has flowed forth, strong, as on a chariot in battle, with thought and intention, the foremost thinker. Ten sisters, upon the summit of the mountain, have given birth to the fire, each to their own dwelling.
वीती जनस्य दिव्यस्य कव्यैरधि सुवानो नहुष्येभिरिन्दुः । प्र यो नृभिरमृतो मर्त्येभिर्मर्मृजानोऽविभिर्गोभिरद्भिः
Indu, poured out, with the songs of the heavenly people, has flowed upon the Nahusha's, with the wise. He, immortal among men, cleanses himself with cows and waters, shining with the pure.
वृषा वृष्णे रोरुवदंशुरस्मै पवमानो रुशदीर्ते पयो गोः । सहस्रमृक्वा पथिभिर्वचोविदध्वस्मभिः सूरो अण्वं वि याति
The bull, roaring for the mighty, the sharp one, pavamana, has poured out the shining milk of the cow. With a thousand streams, along the paths, the sun moves forth, distributing speech among us.
रुजा दृळ्हा चिद्रक्षसः सदांसि पुनान इन्द ऊर्णुहि वि वाजान् । वृश्चोपरिष्टात्तुजता वधेन ये अन्ति दूरादुपनायमेषाम्
Break even the firm strongholds of the foe, purifying Indu, sweep away the prizes. The bull above strikes with his weapon; those who are near or far, bring them to us.
