उभे द्यावापृथिवी विश्वमिन्वे अर्यमा देवो अदितिर्विधाता । भगो नृशंस उर्वन्तरिक्षं विश्वे देवाः पवमानं जुषन्त
Both Heaven and Earth, all-pervading, Aryaman, the god, Aditi, the Ordainer, Bhaga, Nṛśaṃsa, the wide midspace, and all the gods—may they delight in the purified one.
असावि सोमो अरुषो वृषा हरी राजेव दस्मो अभि गा अचिक्रदत् । पुनानो वारं पर्येत्यव्ययं श्येनो न योनिं घृतवन्तमासदम्
The tawny, mighty Soma has flowed forth, with his two bay steeds, roaring like a powerful king; purified, he circles the unfailing filter, like an eagle reaching his nest full of ghee.
कविर्वेधस्या पर्येषि माहिनमत्यो न मृष्टो अभि वाजमर्षसि । अपसेधन्दुरिता सोम मृळय घृतं वसानः परि यासि निर्णिजम्
O inspired one, you seek the greatness of the wise creator; like a well-adorned steed, you rush toward the prize; Soma, drive away what is harmful, bring us mercy, clothed in ghee you pass around the filter.
पर्जन्यः पिता महिषस्य पर्णिनो नाभा पृथिव्या गिरिषु क्षयं दधे । स्वसार आपो अभि गा उतासरन्सं ग्रावभिर्नसते वीते अध्वरे
Parjanya is the father of the horned, leaf-bearing bull; at the navel of earth, he has set his dwelling in the mountains; the waters, his sisters, have come together, they sit with the stones at the sacred rite.
जायेव पत्यावधि शेव मंहसे पज्राया गर्भ शृणुहि ब्रवीमि ते । अन्तर्वाणीषु प्र चरा सु जीवसेऽनिन्द्यो वृजने सोम जागृहि
Like a wife with her husband, be gracious for our greatness; listen, O embryo of strength, I speak to you; move within the vessels for a good life, O Soma, blameless among the people, awaken.
यथा पूर्वेभ्यः शतसा अमृध्रः सहस्रसाः पर्यया वाजमिन्दो । एवा पवस्व सुविताय नव्यसे तव व्रतमन्वापः सचन्ते
As in former times, O drop, you have brought hundreds and thousands of prizes without fail; so now, purify yourself for new prosperity; the waters follow your command.
पवित्रं ते विततं ब्रह्मणस्पते प्रभुर्गात्राणि पर्येषि विश्वतः । अतप्ततनूर्न तदामो अश्नुते शृतास इद्वहन्तस्तत्समाशत
Your filter is spread out, O Lord of prayer; you, the mighty, encompass all forms; like one with unscorched body, no harm touches him; those who have strained you carry that together.
तपोष्पवित्रं विततं दिवस्पदे शोचन्तो अस्य तन्तवो व्यस्थिरन् । अवन्त्यस्य पवीतारमाशवो दिवस्पृष्ठमधि तिष्ठन्ति चेतसा
The filter of heat is stretched at the seat of heaven; its shining threads are spread out; the swift ones guard the purifier with their minds, they stand at the touch of heaven.
अरूरुचदुषसः पृश्निरग्रिय उक्षा बिभर्ति भुवनानि वाजयुः । मायाविनो ममिरे अस्य मायया नृचक्षसः पितरो गर्भमा दधुः
The bright, speckled bull has shone forth at dawn, bearing the worlds, eager for strength; the magicians have measured him by their magic, the fathers with human sight have placed the embryo.
गन्धर्व इत्था पदमस्य रक्षति पाति देवानां जनिमान्यद्भुतः । गृभ्णाति रिपुं निधया निधापतिः सुकृत्तमा मधुनो भक्षमाशत
Thus the Gandharva guards his place, the wondrous one preserves the births of the gods; the lord of treasures seizes the foe, he has tasted the best portion of the honey.
हविर्हविष्मो महि सद्म दैव्यं नभो वसानः परि यास्यध्वरम् । राजा पवित्ररथो वाजमारुहः सहस्रभृष्टिर्जयसि श्रवो बृहत्
The offering, rich in offerings, goes around the great divine abode, clothed in the sky, you move through the sacrifice; king, with chariot of the filter, mounting strength, with a thousand streams you win great fame.
पवस्व देवमादनो विचर्षणिरप्सा इन्द्राय वरुणाय वायवे । कृधी नो अद्य वरिवः स्वस्तिमदुरुक्षितौ गृणीहि दैव्यं जनम्
Purify yourself, O Soma, delight of the gods, wise among people, in the waters, for Indra, Varuna, and Vayu; grant us today wide protection and well-being, praise the divine race, O far-seeing one.
आ यस्तस्थौ भुवनान्यमर्त्यो विश्वानि सोमः परि तान्यर्षति । कृण्वन्संचृतं विचृतमभिष्टय इन्दुः सिषक्त्युषसं न सूर्यः
He who has stood among the worlds, immortal Soma, flows around all these; making the gathered and the scattered, he seeks desires, the drop shines forth like the sun at dawn.
आ यो गोभिः सृज्यत ओषधीष्वा देवानां सुम्न इषयन्नुपावसुः । आ विद्युता पवते धारया सुत इन्द्रं सोमो मादयन्दैव्यं जनम्
He who is pressed with cows, in the plants, seeking the favor of the gods, the wise one comes near; Soma, pressed with lightning, flows in a stream, delighting Indra and the divine race.
एष स्य सोमः पवते सहस्रजिद्धिन्वानो वाचमिषिरामुषर्बुधम् । इन्दुः समुद्रमुदियर्ति वायुभिरेन्द्रस्य हार्दि कलशेषु सीदति
This Soma is purified, winning a thousand, stirring the inspired word, awakening the silent; the drop rises to the ocean with the winds, he sits in the jars in Indra's heart.
अभि त्यं गावः पयसा पयोवृधं सोमं श्रीणन्ति मतिभिः स्वर्विदम् । धनंजयः पवते कृत्व्यो रसो विप्रः कविः काव्येना स्वर्चनाः
The cows, rich in milk, approach this Soma, nourisher of milk, with their thoughts, knowing the sun; the victorious juice is purified, the sage, the poet, with poetry, shining with the sun.
इन्द्राय सोम सुषुतः परि स्रवापामीवा भवतु रक्षसा सह । मा ते रसस्य मत्सत द्वयाविनो द्रविणस्वन्त इह सन्त्विन्दवः
O Soma, well-pressed for Indra, flow around, may you be free from harm, overcoming the demons; let not the two-faced ones enjoy your juice, let the generous drops be here.
अस्मान्समर्ये पवमान चोदय दक्षो देवानामसि हि प्रियो मदः । जहि शत्रूँरभ्या भन्दनायतः पिबेन्द्र सोममव नो मृधो जहि
Urge us on in battle, O purified one, for you are the wise delight of the gods; strike down our enemies, break the bonds, let Indra drink Soma, protect us, destroy our foes.
अदब्ध इन्दो पवसे मदिन्तम आत्मेन्द्रस्य भवसि धासिरुत्तमः । अभि स्वरन्ति बहवो मनीषिणो राजानमस्य भुवनस्य निंसते
O uninjured drop, you are purified, most intoxicating; you become the highest inspiration for Indra; many wise ones sing to you, the king, you settle in the heart of the world.
सहस्रणीथः शतधारो अद्भुत इन्द्रायेन्दुः पवते काम्यं मधु । जयन्क्षेत्रमभ्यर्षा जयन्नप उरुं नो गातुं कृणु सोम मीढ्वः
The thousand-streamed, hundredfold, wondrous Soma, beloved for Indra, is purified as desired sweet drink; conquering, he approaches the field, conquering the waters—grant us a wide path, O generous Soma.
कनिक्रदत्कलशे गोभिरज्यसे व्यव्ययं समया वारमर्षसि । मर्मृज्यमानो अत्यो न सानसिरिन्द्रस्य सोम जठरे समक्षरः
Resounding, you are pressed in the vessel with cows; you pass through the filter, removing what is impure; being purified, like a horse released from the yoke, Soma, you flow into Indra’s belly.
स्वादुः पवस्व दिव्याय जन्मने स्वादुरिन्द्राय सुहवीतुनाम्ने । स्वादुर्मित्राय वरुणाय वायवे बृहस्पतये मधुमाँ अदाभ्यः
Flow sweetly for the divine birth, flow sweetly for Indra, the bestower of gifts; flow sweetly for Mitra, Varuna, Vayu, and Brihaspati—O unfailing one, honeyed Soma.
अत्यं मृजन्ति कलशे दश क्षिपः प्र विप्राणां मतयो वाच ईरते । पवमाना अभ्यर्षन्ति सुष्टुतिमेन्द्रं विशन्ति मदिरास इन्दवः
Ten fingers cleanse you in the vessel; the thoughts of the inspired ones send forth their voices; the purified ones approach with praise—the exhilarating Somas enter Indra.
पवमानो अभ्यर्षा सुवीर्यमुर्वीं गव्यूतिं महि शर्म सप्रथः । माकिर्नो अस्य परिषूतिरीशतेन्दो जयेम त्वया धनंधनम्
Purified, you advance to great strength, to wide cattle-rich space, to vast, spreading shelter; let not his enclosure restrain us—O Soma, may we win wealth upon wealth with you.
अधि द्यामस्थाद्वृषभो विचक्षणोऽरूरुचद्वि दिवो रोचना कविः । राजा पवित्रमत्येति रोरुवद्दिवः पीयूषं दुहते नृचक्षसः
The wise bull has ascended the sky; the sage has shone through the two luminous realms; the king, roaring, passes through the filter—men with vision draw the nectar of heaven.
दिवो नाके मधुजिह्वा असश्चतो वेना दुहन्त्युक्षणं गिरिष्ठाम् । अप्सु द्रप्सं वावृधानं समुद्र आ सिन्धोरूर्मा मधुमन्तं पवित्र आ
In the vault of heaven, with honeyed tongue, the shining ones milk the bull dwelling on the mountain; in the waters, the growing drop, in the ocean, from the river’s wave, into the filter rich with honey.
नाके सुपर्णमुपपप्तिवांसं गिरो वेनानामकृपन्त पूर्वीः । शिशुं रिहन्ति मतयः पनिप्नतं हिरण्ययं शकुनं क्षामणि स्थाम्
In the sky, the many ancient songs have praised the soaring eagle; thoughts seek the golden bird, the child, the shining one, standing on the earth.
ऊर्ध्वो गन्धर्वो अधि नाके अस्थाद्विश्वा रूपा प्रतिचक्षाणो अस्य । भानुः शुक्रेण शोचिषा व्यद्यौत्प्रारूरुचद्रोदसी मातरा शुचिः
High above, the Gandharva has taken his place in the sky, perceiving all forms; his radiance, with pure brilliance, has shone forth, the pure one has illumined both mothers—earth and heaven.
प्र त आशवः पवमान धीजवो मदा अर्षन्ति रघुजा इव त्मना । दिव्याः सुपर्णा मधुमन्त इन्दवो मदिन्तमासः परि कोशमासते
Swift, O purified one, your exhilarating streams rush forth like quick horses; the divine, honeyed Somas, most intoxicating, settle around the vessel.
प्र ते मदासो मदिरास आशवोऽसृक्षत रथ्यासो यथा पृथक् । धेनुर्न वत्सं पयसाभि वज्रिणमिन्द्रमिन्दवो मधुमन्त ऊर्मयः
Your exhilarating, intoxicating, swift streams have flowed forth, each on its own path like chariots; like a cow with her calf, the honeyed Somas, waves, flow with milk for Indra, the wielder of the bolt.
