आत्मन्वन्नभो दुह्यते घृतं पय ऋतस्य नाभिरमृतं वि जायते । समीचीनाः सुदानवः प्रीणन्ति तं नरो हितमव मेहन्ति पेरवः
From the sky, milk and ghee are drawn; at the navel of truth, immortality is born. The generous ones, in harmony, delight in him; the men, friendly, praise him with their voices.
अरावीदंशुः सचमान ऊर्मिणा देवाव्यं मनुषे पिन्वति त्वचम् । दधाति गर्भमदितेरुपस्थ आ येन तोकं च तनयं च धामहे
The drop, roaring, joins with the wave; the divine one nourishes the skin for mankind. He places the embryo in Aditi's womb, by whom we gain offspring and descendants.
सहस्रधारेऽव ता असश्चतस्तृतीये सन्तु रजसि प्रजावतीः । चतस्रो नाभो निहिता अवो दिवो हविर्भरन्त्यमृतं घृतश्चुतः
With a thousand streams, they move together; let them be fruitful in the third region. Four navels are placed in the sky, bearing offerings, immortal ghee flowing.
श्वेतं रूपं कृणुते यत्सिषासति सोमो मीढ्वाँ असुरो वेद भूमनः । धिया शमी सचते सेमभि प्रवद्दिवस्कवन्धमव दर्षदुद्रिणम्
He makes a white form when he desires; Soma, the generous Asura, knows the earth. By thought, he joins with the branches, praises in harmony; he has seen the binding of heaven, the shining one.
अध श्वेतं कलशं गोभिरक्तं कार्ष्मन्ना वाज्यक्रमीत्ससवान् । आ हिन्विरे मनसा देवयन्तः कक्षीवते शतहिमाय गोनाम्
Then the white vessel, marked with cows, is pressed; the swift one, the victorious, has moved. With mind, the worshipers urge him on, for Kakṣīvān, for the hundredfold wealth of cows.
अद्भिः सोम पपृचानस्य ते रसोऽव्यो वारं वि पवमान धावति । स मृज्यमानः कविभिर्मदिन्तम स्वदस्वेन्द्राय पवमान पीतये
With waters, Soma, the juice of your pressed self, O flowing one, runs unimpeded through the filter. Cleansed by the poets, most exhilarating, make yourself sweet for Indra to drink, O purified one.
अभि प्रियाणि पवते चनोहितो नामानि यह्वो अधि येषु वर्धते । आ सूर्यस्य बृहतो बृहन्नधि रथं विष्वञ्चमरुहद्विचक्षणः
He, the beloved, is purified, skillfully prepared, bearing names in which the mighty one grows. Up to the lofty chariot of the great sun, the far-seeing one ascends, turning in every direction.
ऋतस्य जिह्वा पवते मधु प्रियं वक्ता पतिर्धियो अस्या अदाभ्यः । दधाति पुत्रः पित्रोरपीच्यं नाम तृतीयमधि रोचने दिवः
The tongue of truth is purified, the dear honeyed speech, the unassailable lord of thought. The son places the most fitting name of his parents as the third in the shining realm of heaven.
अव द्युतानः कलशाँ अचिक्रदन्नृभिर्येमानः कोश आ हिरण्यये । अभीमृतस्य दोहना अनूषताधि त्रिपृष्ठ उषसो वि राजति
The shining vessels resound below, guided by men, moving within the golden container. The milkers of the immortal one have approached; on the triple-backed dawn she shines forth.
अद्रिभिः सुतो मतिभिश्चनोहितः प्ररोचयन्रोदसी मातरा शुचिः । रोमाण्यव्या समया वि धावति मधोर्धारा पिन्वमाना दिवेदिवे
Pressed by stones, purified by thoughts, he, skillfully prepared, illuminates the two mothers, earth and heaven, pure. His streaming hairs rush forth together, the streams of honey swell day by day.
परि सोम प्र धन्वा स्वस्तये नृभिः पुनानो अभि वासयाशिरम् । ये ते मदा आहनसो विहायसस्तेभिरिन्द्रं चोदय दातवे मघम्
Soma, flow around the vessel for well-being, purified by men, envelop the head with your fragrance. With those exhilarating powers of yours, swift-flying, urge Indra on to grant us wealth.
धर्ता दिवः पवते कृत्व्यो रसो दक्षो देवानामनुमाद्यो नृभिः । हरिः सृजानो अत्यो न सत्वभिर्वृथा पाजांसि कृणुते नदीष्वा
The upholder of heaven, the skillful juice, is purified, worthy of praise by the gods and men. The tawny one, released, like a horse with its strength, does not waste his powers in the rivers.
शूरो न धत्त आयुधा गभस्त्योः स्वः सिषासन्रथिरो गविष्टिषु । इन्द्रस्य शुष्ममीरयन्नपस्युभिरिन्दुर्हिन्वानो अज्यते मनीषिभिः
Like a hero, he takes up his weapons in his hands, eager for glory, charioteer in the contests. Proclaiming Indra's might, he is impelled by the wise; the drop, pressed, is stirred by the inspired.
इन्द्रस्य सोम पवमान ऊर्मिणा तविष्यमाणो जठरेष्वा विश । प्र णः पिन्व विद्युदभ्रेव रोदसी धिया न वाजाँ उप मासि शश्वतः
O Soma, purified, with your wave, enter the abodes of Indra, striving with power. Moisten for us, like lightning in the cloud, earth and heaven; with thought, bring riches to us always.
विश्वस्य राजा पवते स्वर्दृश ऋतस्य धीतिमृषिषाळवीवशत् । यः सूर्यस्यासिरेण मृज्यते पिता मतीनामसमष्टकाव्यः
The king of all, seeing the light, is purified, he has chosen the inspiration of truth by the seer's will. He who is cleansed by the sun's brightness is the father of thoughts, unique in his wisdom.
वृषेव यूथा परि कोशमर्षस्यपामुपस्थे वृषभः कनिक्रदत् । स इन्द्राय पवसे मत्सरिन्तमो यथा जेषाम समिथे त्वोतयः
Like a bull among herds, you rush around the vessel, roaring, the bull at the lap of the waters. You are purified for Indra, most exhilarating, so that we may conquer in battle with your aid.
एष प्र कोशे मधुमाँ अचिक्रददिन्द्रस्य वज्रो वपुषो वपुष्टरः । अभीमृतस्य सुदुघा घृतश्चुतो वाश्रा अर्षन्ति पयसेव धेनवः
Here in the vessel, the honeyed one bellows, Indra's bolt, most splendid of the splendid. The good milker of the immortal, flowing with ghee, the strong ones rush like cows for milk.
स पूर्व्यः पवते यं दिवस्परि श्येनो मथायदिषितस्तिरो रजः । स मध्व आ युवते वेविजान इत्कृशानोरस्तुर्मनसाह बिभ्युषा
He, the ancient, is purified, whom the falcon brought from heaven, set in motion by the churner, across the sky. He comes, youthful with honey, trembling in mind, the thin one, pressed by the eager.
ते नः पूर्वास उपरास इन्दवो महे वाजाय धन्वन्तु गोमते । ईक्षेण्यासो अह्यो न चारवो ब्रह्मब्रह्म ये जुजुषुर्हविर्हविः
May those ancient and later drops flow for us, for great prize, in the rich field. Worthy of sight, like horses, swift, those who delight in prayer, who have enjoyed offering after offering.
अयं नो विद्वान्वनवद्वनुष्यत इन्दुः सत्राचा मनसा पुरुष्टुतः । इनस्य यः सदने गर्भमादधे गवामुरुब्जमभ्यर्षति व्रजम्
This knowing drop, ever victorious, is purified for us, praised by many minds. He who placed the embryo in the seat of being, he overflows the wide stall of the cows.
चक्रिर्दिवः पवते कृत्व्यो रसो महाँ अदब्धो वरुणो हुरुग्यते । असावि मित्रो वृजनेषु यज्ञियोऽत्यो न यूथे वृषयुः कनिक्रदत्
The skillful juice is purified for heaven, great, unassailable, Varuna is invoked. Mitra is present among the tribes, worthy of sacrifice, like a bull in the herd, roaring with might.
प्र राजा वाचं जनयन्नसिष्यददपो वसानो अभि गा इयक्षति । गृभ्णाति रिप्रमविरस्य तान्वा शुद्धो देवानामुप याति निष्कृतम्
The king, generating speech, has arisen, clothed in waters, he approaches the cows. He grasps the foe, the bonds of the hostile, pure, he goes to the gathering of the gods.
इन्द्राय सोम परि षिच्यसे नृभिर्नृचक्षा ऊर्मिः कविरज्यसे वने । पूर्वीर्हि ते स्रुतयः सन्ति यातवे सहस्रमश्वा हरयश्चमूषदः
Soma, you are poured for Indra by men, wave-seen, seer, you are purified in the wood. Many are your streams for going forth, a thousand horses, and your bays bring the hosts.
समुद्रिया अप्सरसो मनीषिणमासीना अन्तरभि सोममक्षरन् । ता ईं हिन्वन्ति हर्म्यस्य सक्षणिं याचन्ते सुम्नं पवमानमक्षितम्
The celestial nymphs, wise, seated within the waters, have released Soma in the midst. They urge him on to the pillar of the house, and they seek the unaging favor of the purified one.
गोजिन्नः सोमो रथजिद्धिरण्यजित्स्वर्जिदब्जित्पवते सहस्रजित् । यं देवासश्चक्रिरे पीतये मदं स्वादिष्ठं द्रप्समरुणं मयोभुवम्
Soma, winner of cows, chariots, gold, sunlight, water, and a thousandfold, is purified. The gods made him, the most delightful drop, reddish, joy-bringing, for drinking.
एतानि सोम पवमानो अस्मयुः सत्यानि कृण्वन्द्रविणान्यर्षसि । जहि शत्रुमन्तिके दूरके च य उर्वीं गव्यूतिमभयं च नस्कृधि
These true riches, O purified Soma, you bring to us, granting wealth. Strike down the enemy, whether near or far; grant us broad pastures for cattle and fearless security.
अचोदसो नो धन्वन्त्विन्दवः प्र सुवानासो बृहद्दिवेषु हरयः । वि च नशन्न इषो अरातयोऽर्यो नशन्त सनिषन्त नो धियः
Let the drops, unurged, flow for us, the bright ones, pressed, for the great heaven; let the streams of nourishment spread for us, let adversaries be scattered, let the Arya's foes be destroyed, and let our thoughts be fulfilled.
प्र णो धन्वन्त्विन्दवो मदच्युतो धना वा येभिरर्वतो जुनीमसि । तिरो मर्तस्य कस्य चित्परिह्वृतिं वयं धनानि विश्वधा भरेमहि
Let the drops, flowing forth, bring us wealth, by which we may harness swift horses; let us overcome the concealment of any mortal, let us bring forth all kinds of riches.
उत स्वस्या अरात्या अरिर्हि ष उतान्यस्या अरात्या वृको हि षः । धन्वन्न तृष्णा समरीत ताँ अभि सोम जहि पवमान दुराध्यः
He is the enemy of his own enmity, and also of another's enmity, for he is a wolf. Flowing, let not thirst overpower you; O purified Soma, strike down those hard to overcome.
दिवि ते नाभा परमो य आददे पृथिव्यास्ते रुरुहुः सानवि क्षिपः । अद्रयस्त्वा बप्सति गोरधि त्वच्यप्सु त्वा हस्तैर्दुदुहुर्मनीषिणः
In heaven is your navel, the highest you have taken; your shoots have grown on the slope of earth. The stones press you on the hide of the cow; in the waters, the wise have milked you with their hands.
