Three times, seven cows have milked for him, true nourishment in the ancient sky. Four other worlds he has purified, making them beautiful, growing by the laws of truth.
He, seeking the lovely nectar, has spread both heaven and earth with wisdom. The most powerful waters, with greatness, have spread out, when they knew the seat by the god’s fame.
Let these be his signs, immortal, invincible, following both births. With these, strength and divine power purify; then the wise seized the king with their thoughts.
He, being cleansed by ten skilled ones, joins the mothers in the midst. Drinking the vows of the lovely nectar, he sees both races with a human eye.
He, purified for power and vision, delights in both ends of heaven, well-placed. The bull, with force, drives away evil thoughts, advancing, sharp as an arrow, attentive.
He, like a calf, unseen by his mothers, bellows, his sound like the Maruts. Knowing the first truth, the golden one, for praise, the wise one chooses his desire.
The mighty bull roars with power, sharpening his horns, the tawny, perceptive one. Soma sits in the well-made womb, his skin becomes bovine, purified for the cows.
Pure, purified, with spotless body, the tawny one has settled on the ridge. Favored for Mitra, Varuna, and Vayu, the triple nectar is made with skillful acts.
Purify, Soma, for divine favor, for the heart of mighty Indra, the Soma-drinker. Lead us across past troubles, remove obstacles, show us the field, answer the seeker.
Like a harnessed team, surge toward the prize, O Indu, enter Indra’s belly; purify yourself. Like a boat crossing the river, pass through the sea with knowledge; like a hero in battle, do not leave us without protection.
He is released to the right, powerful, taking his seat; the ever-watchful one, he drives away the hostile and the demon. He makes the tawny rope, he seeks the sky, he spreads out the sacred grass for the pressing priest’s chant.
He rushes forth like a champion, roaring loudly; he removes the darkness from his appearance. He leaves his covering, goes to his father’s dwelling, and makes the sacred place manifest with his body.
Pressed by the stones, he is purified in the hands, he grows strong, he trembles in the sky with the chant. He rejoices, he sits, he prospers with the hymn; he is adorned in the waters, he is worshipped in the expanse.
Around the shining one, mighty, mountain-nourished, they pour the honey at the house’s pillar. In him, the cows, well-invoked, at the udder, press the foremost head with their paths.
Together, like a chariot, the ten sisters hasten, at Aditi’s lap. He advances, he seeks the hidden track of the cow, the path which they, with skill, have created for him.
Like an eagle, he seeks the nest, the seat made by thought, the golden seat where the god sits. There, with the hymn, they seek the beloved on the sacred grass; like a horse, the worshipful one approaches the gods.
The bright one, manifest, red, seer of the sky, strong, three-backed, has reached the cows. The thousand-streamed, far-going, resounds; like the ancient dawns, he shines forth widely.
He makes a fierce form, his color is bright; where he rests, he breaks through the barriers. He goes to the waters by his own power, to the divine people; with praise he rejoices, with the foremost of cows.
Like a bull circling his herds, he moves loudly, shining, following the path of the sun. The divine eagle looks down upon the earth; Soma, with wisdom, beholds the races.
They cleanse the tawny one, he is yoked like a red horse; Soma is mixed in the vessel with the cows. He sends forth speech, they stir the chant; of the much-praised, how many are truly dear?
Together many wise ones speak, when they have poured Soma into Indra’s belly. When the men cleanse the sweet, desirable honey with ten hands, with easy grasp.
Unwearied, he passes among the cows, beyond the beloved sound of the sun’s daughter. The singers bring him favor, the wise one; he dwells together with his two sisters and his kin.
Stirred by men, pressed by stones, beloved on the sacred grass, the lord of cows, the priestly drop from heaven, Soma, pure by thought, is purified for you, O Indra, accomplishing the sacrifice for men.
Urged by men’s arms, pressed with the filter, Soma is purified for you, O Indra, in due order. He fills the powers, the thoughts, at the sacrifice; the tawny one, seated on the sacred grass, drives away the foe.
The wise ones milk the inexhaustible, thundering drop, the sage, with their skill. Together the cows, the thoughts, come united, returning to the womb, the seat of truth.
At the navel of earth, at the support of the great sky, in the waters, in the ocean, he is set. Indra’s thunderbolt, the bull, the widely shining, Soma, is purified in the heart as a lovely delight.
So purify yourself, encompassing the earthly realm, seeking praise, O skillful one, for the one who stirs you. Let not those without share, those who touch the seat, deprive us of wealth—may we possess abundant, tawny riches.
Come to us, O Indu, with gifts of a hundred horses, with gifts of a thousand, with cattle and gold. Approach, O mighty and radiant one, with abundant riches; O purified one, come and settle upon our hymn.
From the garlanded drop, as it is pressed, the centers resound, emerging from the womb of truth, from the navel. The Asura made three heads at the beginning; the vessels of truth, skillfully made, they have filled.
The mighty ones, moving rightly, have stirred; the waves of the river have spread forth, the seer has flowed out. By streams of honey, they generate the hymn, and have increased the beloved form of Indra.
