समिद्धो विश्वतस्पतिः पवमानो वि राजति । प्रीणन्वृषा कनिक्रदत्
Kindled, the lord of all shines forth, the purifier radiates; the roaring bull brings delight.
तनूनपात्पवमानः शृङ्गे शिशानो अर्षति । अन्तरिक्षेण रारजत्
The purifier, protector of the body, sharpening his horns, flows onward; he shines in the midspace.
ईळेन्यः पवमानो रयिर्वि राजति द्युमान् । मधोर्धाराभिरोजसा
The desirable, purifying stream shines forth as wealth, radiant with light, with the essence of honey and its flowing streams.
बर्हिः प्राचीनमोजसा पवमान स्तृणन्हरिः । देवेषु देव ईयते
With power, O golden one, you spread the sacred grass to the east; purifying, you, the bright one, advance among the gods as a god.
उदातैर्जिहते बृहद्द्वारो देवीर्हिरण्ययीः । पवमानेन सुष्टुताः
The wide, lofty doors, divine and golden, swing open; praised by the purifier, they are set apart.
सुशिल्पे बृहती मही पवमानो वृषण्यति । नक्तोषासा न दर्शते
With skill in creation, vast and great, the purifier bellows forth; he appears like Night and Dawn.
उभा देवा नृचक्षसा होतारा दैव्या हुवे । पवमान इन्द्रो वृषा
I call upon both divine Hotṛs, seers among gods; the purifying Indra, the mighty bull.
भारती पवमानस्य सरस्वतीळा मही । इमं नो यज्ञमा गमन्तिस्रो देवीः सुपेशसः
May Bhārati, Sarasvatī, and Ilā, the great goddesses, come to this sacrifice of ours, these three adorned goddesses.
त्वष्टारमग्रजां गोपां पुरोयावानमा हुवे । इन्दुरिन्द्रो वृषा हरिः पवमानः प्रजापतिः
I call upon Tvaṣṭṛ, the ancient, the protector of cattle, the leader at the front; Indu, Indra, the bull, the golden one, the purifier, the lord of creatures.
वनस्पतिं पवमान मध्वा समङ्ग्धि धारया । सहस्रवल्शं हरितं भ्राजमानं हिरण्ययम्
O purifier, unite with the tree-lord, with honey and stream; the thousand-branched, green, shining, golden one.
विश्वे देवाः स्वाहाकृतिं पवमानस्या गत । वायुर्बृहस्पतिः सूर्योऽग्निरिन्द्रः सजोषसः
All the gods, with the call of 'svāhā,' have come to the purifier: Vāyu, Bṛhaspati, Sūrya, Agni, Indra, together in harmony.
मन्द्रया सोम धारया वृषा पवस्व देवयुः । अव्यो वारेष्वस्मयुः
With delightful stream, O Soma, purify yourself, strong one, for the gods; unblemished among the coverings, eager for us.
अभि त्यं मद्यं मदमिन्दविन्द्र इति क्षर । अभि वाजिनो अर्वतः
Flow toward that intoxicating delight, O drops, as Indra; toward the swift steeds and the horses.
अभि त्यं पूर्व्यं मदं सुवानो अर्ष पवित्र आ । अभि वाजमुत श्रवः
Flow, pressed out, toward that ancient exhilaration through the filter; toward strength and also toward fame.
अनु द्रप्सास इन्दव आपो न प्रवतासरन् । पुनाना इन्द्रमाशत
Like waters down a slope, the drops, O Indu, have flowed forth; purified, they have reached Indra.
यमत्यमिव वाजिनं मृजन्ति योषणो दश । वने क्रीळन्तमत्यविम्
Ten maidens cleanse him, like a swift racer, playing in the wood, not to be surpassed.
तं गोभिर्वृषणं रसं मदाय देववीतये । सुतं भराय सं सृज
Release that bull, the sap with cows, for exhilaration, for the favor of the gods, the pressed one, for offering.
देवो देवाय धारयेन्द्राय पवते सुतः । पयो यदस्य पीपयत्
The god, pressed, is purified for the god Indra; when his milk makes him swell.
आत्मा यज्ञस्य रंह्या सुष्वाणः पवते सुतः । प्रत्नं नि पाति काव्यम्
The soul of the sacrifice, delightful, pressed, is purified; he pours out the ancient wisdom.
एवा पुनान इन्द्रयुर्मदं मदिष्ठ वीतये । गुहा चिद्दधिषे गिरः
Thus, purified, O Indu, bring the most exhilarating delight for the feast; even in secret you have placed the songs.
असृग्रमिन्दवः पथा धर्मन्नृतस्य सुश्रियः । विदाना अस्य योजनम्
The drops have flowed forth on the path of truth, resplendent, knowing his yoking.
प्र धारा मध्वो अग्रियो महीरपो वि गाहते । हविर्हविष्षु वन्द्यः
The foremost stream of sweetness, great and abundant, spreads forth; worthy of praise among offerings.
प्र युजो वाचो अग्रियो वृषाव चक्रदद्वने । सद्माभि सत्यो अध्वरः
The bull, foremost in speech, yoked, has made the sound for the worshipper; the true rite is established in the dwellings.
परि यत्काव्या कविर्नृम्णा वसानो अर्षति । स्वर्वाजी सिषासति
When the sage, adorned with heroic powers, moves with songs, he seeks to win the world of light.
पवमानो अभि स्पृधो विशो राजेव सीदति । यदीमृण्वन्ति वेधसः
Pavamana, overcoming the hosts, sits like a king among the people, when the wise ones purify him.
अव्यो वारे परि प्रियो हरिर्वनेषु सीदति । रेभो वनुष्यते मती
The beloved tawny one, clothed in waters, sits in the woods; the roaring one is praised by the hymn.
स वायुमिन्द्रमश्विना साकं मदेन गच्छति । रणा यो अस्य धर्मभिः
He goes with exhilaration together with Vayu, Indra, and the Ashvins, he who strives with his own laws.
आ मित्रावरुणा भगं मध्वः पवन्त ऊर्मयः । विदाना अस्य शक्मभिः
To Mitra and Varuna, to Bhaga, the waves of sweetness flow, knowing his powers.
अस्मभ्यं रोदसी रयिं मध्वो वाजस्य सातये । श्रवो वसूनि सं जितम्
For us, O Heaven and Earth, grant wealth, the sweetness for the gaining of strength, fame, and gathered riches.
एते सोमा अभि प्रियमिन्द्रस्य काममक्षरन् । वर्धन्तो अस्य वीर्यम्
These Somas, increasing Indra's desire, have flowed forth, strengthening his power.
