For truly, O true Soma-drinker, you have become both the earth and the sky; Indra, you are the mighty one of the one who presses Soma, lord of heaven.
You, Indra, are the destroyer of ancient cities, always; you are the slayer of the Dasyu, O powerful one, lord of heaven.
Therefore, O Indra, lover of song, we send forth our desires to you for greatness; let the gods come with gifts of water.
With hymns of praise, O hero, the prayers strengthen you; even you, O stone-splitter, ever growing, day by day.
They yoke the two bays to the song of the eager one, to the wide-yoked chariot; Indra-drawn, yoked by speech.
You, Indra, bring us strength and manliness, O hundred-powered, among men; bring a hero who conquers in battle.
You are our father, O treasure-giver; you are our mother, O hundred-powered; therefore we seek your favor.
To you, O much-invoked, mighty, I call, O hundred-powered; grant us good heroism.
To you today, O wielder of the thunderbolt, men have poured forth, O Indra, the eager ones; so, Indra, with the songs that carry praise, hear us here and come to your kinsman.
Rejoice, O fair-jawed, golden one; for this we seek you; the wise adorn you; your renowned praises, O Indra, lover of song, are foremost in the pressings.
All gaze upon Indra as on the sun; his treasures are born with power among men; we have distributed the share as is fitting.
Praise the giver of wealth, not the non-giver; fortunate are Indra's gifts; he does not anger at the desire of the one who apportions, urging the mind to giving.
You, Indra, in contests, surpass all rivals; you are the destroyer of curses, the universal conqueror; you are to be invoked in battle against the challenger.
The earths hasten after your impetuous might, as mothers after a child; all your rivals you subdue with your will, when, Indra, you overcome Vṛtra.
From here, may your ageless protector, the unerring envoy, swift conqueror, impeller, charioteer, unconquered, increaser of Tugra, come to aid you.
The maker of good, unopposed, mighty in deeds, with a hundred aids, a hundred powers—Indra, the possessor of wealth, ever young in riches—we call for help together.
Here I come with my body from the front; all the gods approach me from behind, when you, Indra, have assigned me a share, and by me you accomplish heroic deeds.
I set before you the first portion of the sweet drink; let your share be the pressed Soma. And you, my friend, sit to my right; together let us strike down many foes.
Now, O Bharata, offer the true praise to Indra, if indeed it is true. No one says, 'Indra does not exist'—who has seen him, whom shall we praise?
Here I am, O singer—see me here! By my greatness I surpass all beings. The regions of truth make me grow; I shatter the worlds, I break them apart.
When the seers ascended to the law, sitting alone on the back of the bay horse, my mind spoke to my heart—the companions, with their young, rejoiced.
All your deeds at the pressings are to be proclaimed, O generous Indra, which you have done for the one who presses Soma—when you opened the distant, well-guarded wealth for Sharabha, the sage's friend.
Now run forth separately, whoever among you has been restrained here. Indra struck the vital spot of Vritra with his thunderbolt.
Swift as thought, he moved, crossing the iron fortress; like a great bird, he went to the sky and brought Soma to the thunderer.
Within the ocean lies the thunderbolt, covered by water. The streams, held together, bring him tribute from the outflowing sources.
When speech utters words without understanding, the queen of the gods sits in delight. She milked four streams of strength—where, indeed, has her highest gone?
The gods generated the divine speech; all-shaped creatures speak it. May that speech, milking sweet strength for us, the cow, come to us with praise.
Friend Vishnu, stride forth widely; grant space in the sky for the thunderbolt. Let us slay Vritra, let us overcome the rivers; let them, released by Indra's impulse, flow forth.
He prospers, that mortal, who strives for the favor of the gods—who now, for Mitra and Varuna, has prepared the offering for the sacrificial rite.
Most mighty in sovereignty, with far-seeing eyes, the kings, renowned for long, their arms are not to be assailed, chariot-yokers, together with the rays of the sun.
