स वृत्रहेन्द्र ऋभुक्षाः सद्यो जज्ञानो हव्यो बभूव । कृण्वन्नपांसि नर्या पुरूणि सोमो न पीतो हव्यः सखिभ्यः
That Vṛtra-slaying Indra, rich in gifts, newly born, became worthy of offering; performing many heroic deeds, like Soma when pressed, he is the offering for his friends.
या इन्द्र भुज आभरः स्वर्वाँ असुरेभ्यः । स्तोतारमिन्मघवन्नस्य वर्धय ये च त्वे वृक्तबर्हिषः
O Indra, bring us that strength, shining, from the Asuras; O generous one, increase for the singer and for those who spread the sacred grass, the reward that is yours.
यमिन्द्र दधिषे त्वमश्वं गां भागमव्ययम् । यजमाने सुन्वति दक्षिणावति तस्मिन्तं धेहि मा पणौ
Indra, to whom you have given the horse, the cow, the undiminishing share—place that in the sacrificer who presses Soma and gives offerings; do not let it go to the niggard.
य इन्द्र सस्त्यव्रतोऽनुष्वापमदेवयुः । स्वैः ष एवैर्मुमुरत्पोष्यं रयिं सनुतर्धेहि तं ततः
O Indra, of true resolve, who follows the path of truth, with your own powers you have secured nourishing wealth; grant us that prosperity from there.
यच्छक्रासि परावति यदर्वावति वृत्रहन् । अतस्त्वा गीर्भिर्द्युगदिन्द्र केशिभिः सुतावाँ आ विवासति
Whatever you accomplish, O Vṛtra-slayer, whether far or near, for this reason the singer, with bright hymns and flowing hair, calls you to the Soma pressing.
यद्वासि रोचने दिवः समुद्रस्याधि विष्टपि । यत्पार्थिवे सदने वृत्रहन्तम यदन्तरिक्ष आ गहि
Wherever you are, in the shining realm of heaven, on the summit of the ocean, in the earthly abode, O mightiest Vṛtra-slayer, or in the midspace—come here.
स नः सोमेषु सोमपाः सुतेषु शवसस्पते । मादयस्व राधसा सूनृतावतेन्द्र राया परीणसा
O Soma-drinker, lord of might, delight in us with your bounty, with truthfulness, O Indra, with abundant wealth, at the pressings of Soma.
मा न इन्द्र परा वृणग्भवा नः सधमाद्यः । त्वं न ऊती त्वमिन्न आप्यं मा न इन्द्र परा वृणक्
Do not turn away from us, O Indra; be our companion at the feast. You are our helper, you are our kin; do not turn away from us, O Indra.
अस्मे इन्द्र सचा सुते नि षदा पीतये मधु । कृधी जरित्रे मघवन्नवो महदस्मे इन्द्र सचा सुते
Sit with us, O Indra, at this Soma pressing, to drink the sweet; grant the worshipper new greatness, O generous one—be with us, Indra, at this Soma pressing.
न त्वा देवास आशत न मर्त्यासो अद्रिवः । विश्वा जातानि शवसाभिभूरसि न त्वा देवास आशत
Neither the gods nor mortals have equaled you, O stone-armed one; by your might you surpass all beings that have come into being—none of the gods have equaled you.
विश्वाः पृतना अभिभूतरं नरं सजूस्ततक्षुरिन्द्रं जजनुश्च राजसे । क्रत्वा वरिष्ठं वर आमुरिमुतोग्रमोजिष्ठं तवसं तरस्विनम्
All the hosts of men have fashioned Indra, the victorious one, to be their king; most excellent in resolve, best of gifts, mighty, most powerful, strong and energetic.
समीं रेभासो अस्वरन्निन्द्रं सोमस्य पीतये । स्वर्पतिं यदीं वृधे धृतव्रतो ह्योजसा समूतिभिः
The singers have raised their voices together for Indra to drink Soma; when he grows strong as lord of light, steadfast in vow, he comes with his powers.
नेमिं नमन्ति चक्षसा मेषं विप्रा अभिस्वरा । सुदीतयो वो अद्रुहोऽपि कर्णे तरस्विनः समृक्वभिः
The spokes bow with sight, the inspired ones raise their voices; may your praisers, free from harm, with good intentions, approach your ears with their songs, O mighty one.
तमिन्द्रं जोहवीमि मघवानमुग्रं सत्रा दधानमप्रतिष्कुतं शवांसि । मंहिष्ठो गीर्भिरा च यज्ञियो ववर्तद्राये नो विश्वा सुपथा कृणोतु वज्री
I call upon that Indra, the generous, the mighty, who upholds all powers, who cannot be restrained; most great with hymns, worthy of sacrifice, may the wielder of the bolt make all our paths easy.
त्वं पुर इन्द्र चिकिदेना व्योजसा शविष्ठ शक्र नाशयध्यै । त्वद्विश्वानि भुवनानि वज्रिन्द्यावा रेजेते पृथिवी च भीषा
You, Indra, have destroyed ancient fortresses with your might, O most powerful, O Shakra, for their ruin; by you, O bolt-wielder, all the worlds tremble—heaven and earth shake in fear.
तन्म ऋतमिन्द्र शूर चित्र पात्वपो न वज्रिन्दुरिताति पर्षि भूरि । कदा न इन्द्र राय आ दशस्येर्विश्वप्स्न्यस्य स्पृहयाय्यस्य राजन्
May that truth, O Indra, O heroic one, protect us—like water, O bolt-wielder, drive away all harm; when, O Indra, will you grant us wealth, O king, of all-encompassing, desirable abundance?
इन्द्राय साम गायत विप्राय बृहते बृहत् । धर्मकृते विपश्चिते पनस्यवे
Sing a chant for Indra, the wise, the great, vast in greatness, who acts according to law, who sees clearly, who is worthy of praise.
त्वमिन्द्राभिभूरसि त्वं सूर्यमरोचयः । विश्वकर्मा विश्वदेवो महाँ असि
You, Indra, are all-conquering; you made the sun shine; you are the maker of all, the god of all, you are great.
विभ्राजञ्ज्योतिषा स्वरगच्छो रोचनं दिवः । देवास्त इन्द्र सख्याय येमिरे
Shining with light, go to the radiant realm of heaven; O Indra, the gods have chosen you for friendship.
एन्द्र नो गधि प्रियः सत्राजिदगोह्यः । गिरिर्न विश्वतस्पृथुः पतिर्दिवः
Indra, may our dear desire reach you, O Satrājit, unconcealed, broad as a mountain on every side, lord of heaven.
अभि हि सत्य सोमपा उभे बभूथ रोदसी । इन्द्रासि सुन्वतो वृधः पतिर्दिवः
For truly, O true Soma-drinker, you have become both the earth and the sky; Indra, you are the mighty one of the one who presses Soma, lord of heaven.
त्वं हि शश्वतीनामिन्द्र दर्ता पुरामसि । हन्ता दस्योर्मनोर्वृधः पतिर्दिवः
You, Indra, are the destroyer of ancient cities, always; you are the slayer of the Dasyu, O powerful one, lord of heaven.
अधा हीन्द्र गिर्वण उप त्वा कामान्महः ससृज्महे । उदेव यन्त उदभिः
Therefore, O Indra, lover of song, we send forth our desires to you for greatness; let the gods come with gifts of water.
वार्ण त्वा यव्याभिर्वर्धन्ति शूर ब्रह्माणि । वावृध्वांसं चिदद्रिवो दिवेदिवे
With hymns of praise, O hero, the prayers strengthen you; even you, O stone-splitter, ever growing, day by day.
युञ्जन्ति हरी इषिरस्य गाथयोरौ रथ उरुयुगे । इन्द्रवाहा वचोयुजा
They yoke the two bays to the song of the eager one, to the wide-yoked chariot; Indra-drawn, yoked by speech.
त्वं न इन्द्रा भरँ ओजो नृम्णं शतक्रतो विचर्षणे । आ वीरं पृतनाषहम्
You, Indra, bring us strength and manliness, O hundred-powered, among men; bring a hero who conquers in battle.
त्वं हि नः पिता वसो त्वं माता शतक्रतो बभूविथ । अधा ते सुम्नमीमहे
You are our father, O treasure-giver; you are our mother, O hundred-powered; therefore we seek your favor.
त्वां शुष्मिन्पुरुहूत वाजयन्तमुप ब्रुवे शतक्रतो । स नो रास्व सुवीर्यम्
To you, O much-invoked, mighty, I call, O hundred-powered; grant us good heroism.
त्वामिदा ह्यो नरोऽपीप्यन्वज्रिन्भूर्णयः । स इन्द्र स्तोमवाहसामिह श्रुध्युप स्वसरमा गहि
To you today, O wielder of the thunderbolt, men have poured forth, O Indra, the eager ones; so, Indra, with the songs that carry praise, hear us here and come to your kinsman.
मत्स्वा सुशिप्र हरिवस्तदीमहे त्वे आ भूषन्ति वेधसः । तव श्रवांस्युपमान्युक्थ्या सुतेष्विन्द्र गिर्वणः
Rejoice, O fair-jawed, golden one; for this we seek you; the wise adorn you; your renowned praises, O Indra, lover of song, are foremost in the pressings.
