For the bearer of hymns, for the mighty, let the thought flow like a river to its farthest shore; touch, with insight, the body of the well-heard, the most pleasing—may he, perhaps, take notice.
Know this, which Indra delights in; praise him with a fine hymn, call upon him with reverence; adorn, O singer, the one who is not to be harmed, make your voice heard—may he, perhaps, take notice.
The black drop, adorned with ten thousand, descended into the shining Aṃśumatī; Indra, with his power, brought it back, and with his strength, he set aside the sticky ones.
I saw the drop moving apart in the gathering place, by the banks of the Aṃśumatī river; like a dark cloud in the sky, I stood watching—may you, strong ones, fight in the battle.
Then the drop, in the lap of Aṃśumatī, held its form, shining; the godless hosts approached, but Indra, yoked with Bṛhaspati, overcame them.
You, Indra, from birth, became the enemy of those without enemies; you found the hidden heavens and earth, and from the abundant worlds you brought forth battle.
You, indeed, with unmatched strength, Indra, struck down with the thunderbolt, emboldened by the weapon; you destroyed Śuṣṇa with your weapons, and by your power, you found the cows.
You, indeed, bull among peoples, became the slayer of foes, the thundercloud among adversaries; you released the rivers, you held back the obstructors, and you conquered the wives of the Dāsas.
He, the wise one, who roars in the pressings, whose wrath is unmatched, who is splendid like a serpent—he alone, the doer of heroic deeds, is called the slayer of Vṛtra by all.
That Vṛtra-slaying Indra, supporter of people, we invoke with excellent praise as one to be offered to; may that generous Maghavan be our protector, our advocate, and the giver of strength and renown.
That Vṛtra-slaying Indra, rich in gifts, newly born, became worthy of offering; performing many heroic deeds, like Soma when pressed, he is the offering for his friends.
O Indra, bring us that strength, shining, from the Asuras; O generous one, increase for the singer and for those who spread the sacred grass, the reward that is yours.
Indra, to whom you have given the horse, the cow, the undiminishing share—place that in the sacrificer who presses Soma and gives offerings; do not let it go to the niggard.
O Indra, of true resolve, who follows the path of truth, with your own powers you have secured nourishing wealth; grant us that prosperity from there.
Whatever you accomplish, O Vṛtra-slayer, whether far or near, for this reason the singer, with bright hymns and flowing hair, calls you to the Soma pressing.
Wherever you are, in the shining realm of heaven, on the summit of the ocean, in the earthly abode, O mightiest Vṛtra-slayer, or in the midspace—come here.
O Soma-drinker, lord of might, delight in us with your bounty, with truthfulness, O Indra, with abundant wealth, at the pressings of Soma.
Do not turn away from us, O Indra; be our companion at the feast. You are our helper, you are our kin; do not turn away from us, O Indra.
Sit with us, O Indra, at this Soma pressing, to drink the sweet; grant the worshipper new greatness, O generous one—be with us, Indra, at this Soma pressing.
Neither the gods nor mortals have equaled you, O stone-armed one; by your might you surpass all beings that have come into being—none of the gods have equaled you.
All the hosts of men have fashioned Indra, the victorious one, to be their king; most excellent in resolve, best of gifts, mighty, most powerful, strong and energetic.
The singers have raised their voices together for Indra to drink Soma; when he grows strong as lord of light, steadfast in vow, he comes with his powers.
The spokes bow with sight, the inspired ones raise their voices; may your praisers, free from harm, with good intentions, approach your ears with their songs, O mighty one.
I call upon that Indra, the generous, the mighty, who upholds all powers, who cannot be restrained; most great with hymns, worthy of sacrifice, may the wielder of the bolt make all our paths easy.
You, Indra, have destroyed ancient fortresses with your might, O most powerful, O Shakra, for their ruin; by you, O bolt-wielder, all the worlds tremble—heaven and earth shake in fear.
May that truth, O Indra, O heroic one, protect us—like water, O bolt-wielder, drive away all harm; when, O Indra, will you grant us wealth, O king, of all-encompassing, desirable abundance?
Sing a chant for Indra, the wise, the great, vast in greatness, who acts according to law, who sees clearly, who is worthy of praise.
You, Indra, are all-conquering; you made the sun shine; you are the maker of all, the god of all, you are great.
Shining with light, go to the radiant realm of heaven; O Indra, the gods have chosen you for friendship.
Indra, may our dear desire reach you, O Satrājit, unconcealed, broad as a mountain on every side, lord of heaven.
