Let our songs resound around the pressed Soma for Indra, the one who delights; let the poets praise with hymns.
In whom all glories, the seven gatherings, dwell—upon that Soma we call Indra to the offering.
The gods sought the mindful one among the Trikadrukas, they prepared the sacrifice; let our songs magnify him.
To you the drops come, O Indra, as rivers into the sea; no one surpasses you, Indra.
You have revealed, mighty one, by your greatness, the food of Soma for the wakeful; O Indra, that which is in your bellies.
May the Soma be fitting for your belly, O Indra, slayer of Vṛtra; may the drops be fitting for your abodes.
It is fitting for the horse, sings Śrutakakṣa, fitting for the cow; fitting for Indra’s abode.
For you indeed, Indra, you are adorned in our pressings, in the Somas; it is fitting for you, O mighty one, for the gift.
Even from afar, O stone-armed, our songs reach you; may we come fittingly to you.
For thus you are valiant, thus a hero and steadfast; thus is your generous mind.
Thus the gift, O bountiful one, is held with all the givers; then, O Indra, be with me.
Do not, like a priest, become weary, O lord of strength; delight in the pressed, wealth-bringing Soma.
Let not the commands of day or night overcome us, O Indra; with you as our ally, may we win that.
With you as ally, O Indra, may we declare our battles; you are ours, and we are yours.
Indeed, it is you whom your followers, moving and staying, ever follow; O Indra, the poets are your friends.
He has arisen, the bountiful, famed bull, lord of men; you come as the setter, O Sun.
He who, with the strength of his arms, shattered ninety-nine fortresses anew, and slew the serpent, O slayer of Vṛtra.
May that Indra, gracious friend, bring us horses, cattle, and barley; he milks out abundance like a broad stream.
Whatever, O slayer of Vṛtra, you have accomplished today or in the past, O Indra, all that is under your control.
And if, O mighty lord, you think yourself invincible and unconquered, truly, that is indeed your nature, O truthful one.
Whether the Somas are pressed far away or near at hand, O Indra, you go to all of them.
We urge that Indra on, to strike down the great Vṛtra; let him be the powerful, mighty bull.
Indra has been made for subduing, most vigorous, set in the exhilaration; glorious, renowned, he is the one of Soma.
The thunderbolt, gathered by speech, is strong and unfailing; it has grown high, unbroken.
Even in difficulty, make an easy path for us, O Indra, lover of song; you, generous one, have the power.
Whose command, even now, none can hinder—his sovereignty is not diminished, neither by god nor by powerless man.
Then both heaven and earth, O fair-jawed one, have honored your irresistible might, O god, as you are worshipped.
You have supported this—among the black and the red cows, among the bright ones on the Paruṣṇī river.
When the brightness of the serpent was scattered, all the gods advanced; we have come to know the might of the beast.
May the favor of the slayer of Vṛtra be with me; grant me manly strength, unconquered, never defeated.
