अत्यो नाज्मन्सर्गप्रतक्तः सिन्धुर्न क्षोदः क ईं वराते
Like a horse, swift in the race, set free at the start; like a river, unrestrained—who can surpass him?
जामिः सिन्धूनां भ्रातेव स्वस्रामिभ्यान्न राजा वनान्यत्ति
He is the kin of rivers, like a brother to his sister; the king, taking from both, consumes the forests.
यद्वातजूतो वना व्यस्थादग्निर्ह दाति रोमा पृथिव्याः
When, driven by the wind, he scatters the woods, Agni burns, consuming the hairs of the earth.
श्वसित्यप्सु हंसो न सीदन्क्रत्वा चेतिष्ठो विशामुषर्भुत्
He breathes in the waters, like a swan sitting; by his will, he moves swiftly among the peoples, O shining one.
सोमो न वेधा ऋतप्रजातः पशुर्न शिश्वा विभुर्दूरेभाः
Like Soma, the wise one, born of truth; like a calf, the all-pervading one, far-reaching.
रयिर्न चित्रा सूरो न संदृगायुर्न प्राणो नित्यो न सूनुः
Like wealth, splendid; like the sun, all-seeing; like the sky, eternal; like a son, ever-living.
तक्वा न भूर्णिर्वना सिषक्ति पयो न धेनुः शुचिर्विभावा
Like a swift horse, he exerts himself; like a cow, pure and radiant, he pours forth nourishment.
दाधार क्षेममोको न रण्वो यवो न पक्वो जेता जनानाम्
He upholds safety, delightful as a singer; like ripe barley, he conquers people.
ऋषिर्न स्तुभ्वा विक्षु प्रशस्तो वाजी न प्रीतो वयो दधाति
Like a sage praised among the tribes, like a victorious steed, he brings forth vigor.
दुरोकशोचिः क्रतुर्न नित्यो जायेव योनावरं विश्वस्मै
His flame shines far, his resolve is constant; like a mother, he opens the womb for all.
चित्रो यदभ्राट् छ्वेतो न विक्षु रथो न रुक्मी त्वेषः समत्सु
Brilliant as a cloud, white among the tribes; like a golden chariot, fierce in battles.
सेनेव सृष्टामं दधात्यस्तुर्न दिद्युत्त्वेषप्रतीका
Like an army set in motion, he bears strength; like a thunderbolt, his fierce form flashes.
यमो ह जातो यमो जनित्वं जारः कनीनां पतिर्जनीनाम्
He is born as Yama, he is the origin of Yama; lover of maidens, lord of women.
तं वश्चराथा वयं वसत्यास्तं न गावो नक्षन्त इद्धम्
We seek him, the dwelling of wealth; like cows, they mark his shining presence.
सिन्धुर्न क्षोदः प्र नीचीरैनोन्नवन्त गावः स्वर्दृशीके
Like a river flowing, he moves downward; the cows ascend, seeing the radiant realm.
वनेषु जायुर्मर्तेषु मित्रो वृणीते श्रुष्टिं राजेवाजुर्यम्
Born in the woods, chosen among mortals, Mitra seeks the creation, like a king seeking victory.
क्षेमो न साधुः क्रतुर्न भद्रो भुवत्स्वाधीर्होता हव्यवाट्
Like a gentle protector, his resolve is auspicious; he becomes self-reliant, the priest who brings offerings.
हस्ते दधानो नृम्णा विश्वान्यमे देवान्धाद्गुहा निषीदन्
Holding all powers in his hand, he placed the gods in secret seats.
विदन्तीमत्र नरो धियंधा हृदा यत्तष्टान्मन्त्राँ अशंसन्
Here, men discover wisdom; with their hearts, they praise the crafted mantras.
अजो न क्षां दाधार पृथिवीं तस्तम्भ द्यां मन्त्रेभिः सत्यैः
Like an unborn one, he upheld the earth; he supported the sky with true mantras.
प्रिया पदानि पश्वो नि पाहि विश्वायुरग्ने गुहा गुहं गाः
Protect the beloved paths of the cattle, Agni; you, eternal, conceal the cows in secret.
य ईं चिकेत गुहा भवन्तमा यः ससाद धारामृतस्य
Whoever perceives him dwelling in secret, whoever sits at the stream of immortality.
वि ये चृतन्त्यृता सपन्त आदिद्वसूनि प्र ववाचास्मै
Those who move apart, seeking truth, then speak forth the treasures to him.
वि यो वीरुत्सु रोधन्महित्वोत प्रजा उत प्रसूष्वन्तः
He who divides among heroes the great abundance, and among offspring and progeny.
चित्तिरपां दमे विश्वायुः सद्मेव धीराः सम्माय चक्रुः
The wise, possessing all life, have fashioned a wondrous abode of the waters, like a house, with understanding.
श्रीणन्नुप स्थाद्दिवं भुरण्यु स्थातुश्चरथमक्तून्व्यूर्णोत्
Hearing, he approached the sky with brightness; he covered the chariot of the standing one with rays.
परि यदेषामेको विश्वेषां भुवद्देवो देवानां महित्वा
When among these, one became the god of all gods, encompassing the greatness of the deities.
आदित्ते विश्वे क्रतुं जुषन्त शुष्काद्यद्देव जीवो जनिष्ठाः
From then, all accepted his resolve; when, O god, you were born alive from the dry.
भजन्त विश्वे देवत्वं नाम ऋतं सपन्तो अमृतमेवैः
All share in the divine nature, seeking the truth, attaining the immortal by their own paths.
ऋतस्य प्रेषा ऋतस्य धीतिर्विश्वायुर्विश्वे अपांसि चक्रुः
Messengers of truth, the thought of truth, possessing all life, they have fashioned all the waters.
