We have come to the greatest, the slayer of Vṛtra, Agni, the noble; whose renowned voice, vast and resounding, grows in the forefront.
Immortal, all-knowing, radiant, dispeller of darkness, worthy of worship, whose offerings are poured with ghee.
Whom these people, without hindrance, worship with offerings, Agni, as they pour libations with orderly ladles.
This new thought of ours, O Agni, is for you; delightful, well-born, skillful, unfailing, wondrous guest.
May this most auspicious and beloved offering, O Agni, be pleasing to you; with it, grow strong through our praise.
May she, full of splendor and glory, bring great fame to us in the struggle against obstacles.
Like a horse, a cow, a swift chariot, or mighty Indra, the lord of truth, whose fame is spread, the people praise what is praiseworthy.
Whom Gopavana, with words, has chosen, Agni, descendant of Angiras; O pure one, hear our invocation.
Whom the people worship, unhindered, for the gaining of strength; awaken for the overcoming of obstacles.
I, invoking, sing forth with renowned voice and joyful spirit, like the cries of the victorious hosts, and the roaring heads of the four.
Four swift ones, the most powerful, with splendid gifts, carry me forward, like a family advancing toward the goal.
I have truly shown you, O mighty one, the ford of the Paruṣṇī; these waters are not the givers of horses, nor is there any mortal greater than the most powerful.
Yoke, O Agni, the horses summoned by the gods, as a charioteer would; be the ancient priest in the assembly.
And may the god speak to us, O gods, most wise; grant us all the treasures.
You, indeed, O youngest, son of strength, called upon, are true and worthy of sacrifice.
This Agni is the lord of thousands, master of wealth and hundreds, the head of the wise and of riches.
To him, as to a wheel-rim, let the skilled ones bow with joint offerings; O Angiras, bring the sacrifice nearer.
To him, the ever-youthful, for breaking through, address your manifold voice; urge on the strong one with a good hymn.
With whose army, O Agni, of far-seeing gaze, shall we cross over the Panis among the cattle?
Let not the clans of the gods, like cows at milking, forsake us; let us not be like the thin one of the barren cow.
Let not the enmities of the whole assembly, nor the hostilities, nor distress, overwhelm us, as a wave would a boat.
To your strength, O Agni, we bow; the peoples praise you, O god; destroy the unfriendly for us.
Whatever wealth-seeking companions you have, O Agni, bring us wealth; make us wide and strong.
Let us not, in this great wealth, be made to bear the burden of others; win together for us the full and the abundant wealth.
Let this ill-will fall upon another, not upon us, O Agni; increase for us strength and might.
Whomever the reverent or the ill-intentioned has chosen, Agni truly supports that one in growth.
From the farther to the nearer shore, carry us across; wherever I am, bring us safely there.
For we have known you of old, O Agni, according to the favor of our father; now we seek your good will.
Now I call upon this wondrous Indra, lord of might, accompanied by the Maruts, for you do not abandon him.
This Indra, friend of the Maruts, struck off the head of Vritra with his hundred-jointed thunderbolt.
