O Indra, the hymn of Gotama is renewed for you; may the prayer be fashioned for the tawny-yoked one. With your strength, O powerful one, guide us well; may the wise, generous one swiftly come to us at dawn.
You, O mighty Indra, by your powers, brought forth heaven and established the earth. When you, with your force, shattered even the mountains, the firm ones trembled in fear, as if loosened.
When your two steeds, O Indra, are harnessed, the singer places the bolt in your hands. With it, O unconquered one, you, much-invoked, have destroyed many enemy fortresses.
You are true, O Indra, bold in your deeds; you are the enjoyer of offerings, the heroic one, the strong. You struck down Śuṣṇa in the field, and, young, you aided Kutsā, the shining one, in battle.
You indeed, O Indra, urged on by friends, O wielder of the bolt, mighty in action, struck down Vṛtra. O hero, when you, eager for battle, turned the Dasyus away, you scattered them like loosened chaff.
You, O Indra, are the destroyer of the hostile, even of the strong among mortals who are not favored. You, O wielder of the bolt, have cut down our foes for us, as a woodcutter fells trees.
You, O Indra, are invoked by men in the contest for wealth, in the desire for glory. By your own power, may this aid be ours in the struggle, may your favor be unfailing in our battles.
You, O Indra, when fighting, shattered seven fortresses for Purukutsa with your bolt. As you did for Sudās, you scattered the hostile band, O king, granting wide space for Pūru.
You, O Indra, have filled these shining gifts for us, like waters, O god, in their course. With these, O hero, you protect us on all sides; may your strength, like nourishment, flow for our well-being.
For you, O Indra, these hymns have been composed by the Gotamas, spoken with reverence for your steeds. Bring us splendid wealth; may the wise, generous one swiftly come to us at dawn.
For the strong host, for the gracious, skillful one, let the inspired one offer a noble hymn to the Maruts. Like waters, the wise one, with good hands, arranges the songs, manifest in the assemblies.
They were born lofty from the sky, the vigorous sons of Rudra, divine, unblemished, mighty. Bright, pure as the sun, steadfast in strength, they are swift as drops, fearsome in appearance.
Young, O Rudras, undying, unaging, you have grown, free from harm, like mountains. Even the firm realms of earth you shake, and by your might you stir the heavenly ones.
With brilliant adornments they display their splendor; on their chests, shining ornaments are set in beauty. On their shoulders, their weapons are fastened; together, by their own power, these men were born from the sky.
Created by the Lord, the roaring, beneficent ones, like winds and flashes of lightning, have grown strong. Their streams, heavenly, pour forth; their showers fill the earth with nourishing waters.
The Maruts, generous givers, pour out waters, rich in ghee, manifest in the assemblies. Like racers in the rain, they lead the swift horse; they milk the inexhaustible udder, thundering.
Mighty as buffaloes, skilled in magic, shining in brilliance, they are like mountains, self-sustaining, swift to aid. Like wild beasts, elephants, they devour the woods when, in their redness, they harness their power.
Like lions, the wise ones roar; like spotted ones, most spotted, all-knowing. They quicken the nights with their speckled spears, overcoming the foe in battle, mighty in strength and spirit.
O Maruts, speak forth, you who are renowned among hosts, heroic men with indomitable strength; your radiance is manifest in your chariots, like lightning that stands revealed, and your thought is evident among your teams.
All-knowing, dwelling together with riches, united in will, mighty and shining, the men have set their arrow upon the bowstring; with unending power, the bull-like ones, the men, are ready.
With golden spears, nourished by the milk, they hurl themselves like a path-clearing force against the mountains; the Maruts, shining in their vision, are eager for the offering, their courses fixed, their paths unwavering, their forms fierce.
We praise with invocation the bright, pure, forest-dwelling, far-seeing son of Rudra, the Marut host, strong in the realm, swift in the expanse, shining, united, and powerful for glory.
Now, indeed, the mortal, supported by your strength, surpasses others; O Maruts, whom you aid, he wins wealth with horses and men, attains wisdom, and prospers.
O Maruts, grant to the generous the unconquerable, glorious might in battles, the wealth that brings praise, renowned among all people, so that we may prosper with a hundred sons and descendants.
Now, O Maruts, bestow upon us enduring, heroic, ever-victorious wealth, abundant, a thousandfold, shining, so that the wise one may come to us early with blessings.
Like a herdsman, he moves secretly, harnessed with reverence, bearing reverence.
Together, the wise ones follow his footsteps; all the worshipful gods take their seat near you.
The gods, in accordance with the laws of truth, have become guardians; heaven, like a covering, encompasses earth.
The waters, ever-growing, pure, and nourishing, in the womb of truth, have brought forth the well-born one.
Like abundant nourishment, like the earth, like a mountain, like a support, like a shelter, like a bringer of happiness.
