The pure, shining Agni, the treasure-giver among men, the most excellent Hotar, has been established among the tribes; the householder, lord of the home, may Agni be the master of riches for the wealthy.
You, Agni, lord of riches, we, the Gotamas, praise with our thoughts; swift, bringing the prize, may you come quickly with wisdom, O beneficent one, at dawn.
To him, the mighty, the strong, I offer this praise, like a gift, for his greatness; may the inspired ones, the Adhrigavas, send forth hymns for Indra, the most generous.
To him, like a gift, I bring these praises, raising my voice with abundant song; for Indra, with heart, mind, and thought, the ancient lord, may our prayers be adorned.
To him, I bring this most excellent, radiant praise with my mouth; with the greatest words of the wise, with splendid hymns, let us magnify the generous one.
To him, I join this hymn, as a craftsman fits a chariot for the journey; songs for the song-loving, splendid Indra, for the wise one, for all to hear.
To him, like a victorious troop, I set forth the hymn for Indra with my voice; to honor the heroic, bountiful one, the ancient, famed for his deeds, the upholder of law.
For him, Tvaṣṭṛ fashioned the thunderbolt, most skillful, fit for glory and battle; with it, he struck even at the vital spot of Vṛtra, the mighty, shattering the stronghold with his weapon.
At his mother's pressing, he drank at once the strength of his father; swift, Vishnu aided, the stronger one cooked the offering, and he pierced the boar that hid the mountain.
For him, even the goddesses, the wives of the gods, sang the hymn for Indra after his great deed; the broad heavens and earth embraced him, yet his greatness was not contained.
Of him alone the greatness spread forth from heaven, earth, and the midspace; Indra, famed in all abodes, took up his strength for battle, shining for victory.
By his might, Indra with his thunderbolt cut apart the withering Vṛtra; like cows, he released the imprisoned waters, and, mindful, he won glory for the eager one.
Indeed, at his mighty roar, the rivers delight, when with the thunderbolt he confines their courses; the lord, granting favor to the eager one, bestows abundance—Turvani, the swift, for the generous.
For him, indeed, bring forth the thunderbolt, O eager one, for slaying the foe, O lord, in many ways; with the edge of the goad, split the ridges, drive apart the waters, so that the floods may flow for our dwelling.
Of him, indeed, speak forth the ancient deeds, the mighty acts of the powerful one, with new hymns; when, armed for battle, he takes up his weapons, fiercely striving, he scatters the enemies.
At his terror, indeed, the firm mountains and the vast heavens and earth tremble at his birth; approaching the seat of the wise one, the inspired poet at once becomes endowed with strength.
For him, indeed, that is to be followed among the worthy, when alone in the forest, the lord of abundance; Indra, striving with the Sun for the prize, has gained the swift horses of Suvaśva.
Thus, for you, O Indra, the Harijanas, the Gotamas, have composed splendid hymns; upon these, place all-encompassing insight—may the wise one come swiftly at dawn with understanding.
We offer our hymn to the mighty, the strong, a song of praise to the singer, the descendant of Angiras; with well-formed verses, let us praise the ancient, let us sing a hymn to the renowned hero.
Bring your great homage to the mighty, offer your song of praise to the powerful one; by this, our forefathers, the Angirases, knowing the path, found the cows through their hymns.
In the striving of Indra and the Angirases, Sarama discovered the cattle for her offspring; Brihaspati split the rock, revealed the cows, and the men rejoiced with the dawns.
With the Suṣṭubh and Stoma, with seven wise ones, with the sound, the strong one broke the rock with the nine singers; with the swift ones, O Indra, O mighty, you shattered Vala with the ten singers and your roar.
Praising with the Angirases, O wondrous one, you, with the Sun and the cows, dispelled the darkness; you spread out the earth's surface, O Indra, and held up the expanse of the sky to be unshaken.
That most manifest deed of his is visible, the most beautiful of the wondrous one's powers; at the meeting place, the four rivers, rich in honey, overflowed.
Twice he opened the ancient, hidden enclosure with hymns sung by the eager ones; Bhaga did not consider in the highest heaven, but the mighty ones supported earth and sky.
From ancient times, the vast earth and the diverse heavens have circled, ever renewed, with their own forms; the dawns, dark and red, move with shining and varied forms, each following the other.
The son, observing friendship from of old, upheld with might and wisdom; even among them you placed the ripe (milk), the milk in the black and the red, fertile ones.
From ancient times, the lowlands and heights, the winds, the immortal ones, uphold the laws with their might; many thousands, like wives, the sisters, unwearied, honor the unaging one.
From ancient times, the youthful ones, with reverence and new hymns, have approached the wondrous one, desiring wealth; like wives to a lord, the shining, radiant ones touch you with might and with thought.
From ancient times, O wondrous one, your riches in your hands do not diminish nor are they exhausted; you are resplendent, wise, O Indra, steadfast—grant us skill, like your own, with your powers.
