यस्यामितानि वीर्या न राधः पर्येतवे । ज्योतिर्न विश्वमभ्यस्ति दक्षिणा
Whose immeasurable powers, whose generosity cannot be surpassed; like light, his right hand pervades all.
स्तुहीन्द्रं व्यश्ववदनूर्मिं वाजिनं यमम् । अर्यो गयं मंहमानं वि दाशुषे
Praise Indra, who has the face of a horse, the wave, the prize-winner, the restrainer; who, for the Arya, divides the life of the arrogant for the worshipper.
एवा नूनमुप स्तुहि वैयश्व दशमं नवम् । सुविद्वांसं चर्कृत्यं चरणीनाम्
Thus now, praise the tenth and ninth Vaiyasva; the wise, the praiseworthy among the singers.
वेत्था हि निरृतीनां वज्रहस्त परिवृजम् । अहरहः शुन्ध्युः परिपदामिव
For you know, O wielder of the bolt, the courses of destruction; day by day, you cleanse as if the footprints.
तदिन्द्राव आ भर येना दंसिष्ठ कृत्वने । द्विता कुत्साय शिश्नथो नि चोदय
Bring that, O Indra, by which you are most powerful in deed; for the second time, urge on the Kutsas, do not hold back.
तमु त्वा नूनमीमहे नव्यं दंसिष्ठ सन्यसे । स त्वं नो विश्वा अभिमातीः सक्षणिः
Now we seek you, the newest, most powerful in deed; so may you overcome all hostilities for us.
य ऋक्षादंहसो मुचद्यो वार्यात्सप्त सिन्धुषु । वधर्दासस्य तुविनृम्ण नीनमः
He who released from sin, from want, in the seven rivers; the slayer of the Dasa, of mighty strength, we bow to him.
यथा वरो सुषाम्णे सनिभ्य आवहो रयिम् । व्यश्वेभ्यः सुभगे वाजिनीवति
As you brought wealth to the excellent Suṣāman, so bring riches to the companions, to the fortunate, to the possessors of horses.
आ नार्यस्य दक्षिणा व्यश्वाँ एतु सोमिनः । स्थूरं च राधः शतवत्सहस्रवत्
Let the reward of the generous woman, of the Soma-presser, come forth; abundant wealth, with a hundred and a thousand cattle.
यत्त्वा पृच्छादीजानः कुहया कुहयाकृते । एषो अपश्रितो वलो गोमतीमव तिष्ठति
When the knowing one asks you, with cunning, for the sake of cunning; here, the hidden Vala stands by the rich one.
ता वां विश्वस्य गोपा देवा देवेषु यज्ञिया । ऋतावाना यजसे पूतदक्षसा
Those two, guardians of all, O gods, worthy of sacrifice among the gods, upholders of truth, are to be worshipped with purified skill.
मित्रा तना न रथ्या वरुणो यश्च सुक्रतुः । सनात्सुजाता तनया धृतव्रता
Mitra, like a son of the chariot, and Varuṇa, whose wisdom is excellent—since ancient times their noble offspring are steadfast in their vows.
ता माता विश्ववेदसासुर्याय प्रमहसा । मही जजानादितिरृतावरी
Their mother, knowing all worlds, Aditi of great might, gave birth to them for sovereignty, she who is rich in truth.
महान्ता मित्रावरुणा सम्राजा देवावसुरा । ऋतावानावृतमा घोषतो बृहत्
Great are Mitra and Varuṇa, sovereigns, gods, lords of power; upholders of truth, covered in glory, they proclaim a mighty sound.
नपाता शवसो महः सूनू दक्षस्य सुक्रतू । सृप्रदानू इषो वास्त्वधि क्षितः
Sons of strength and greatness, offspring of skill, possessing excellent wisdom, givers of gifts, they have established abundance in the dwelling.
सं या दानूनि येमथुर्दिव्याः पार्थिवीरिषः । नभस्वतीरा वां चरन्तु वृष्टयः
You two have restrained the gifts, both celestial and earthly riches; let the rain-clouds, full of water, move for you.
अधि या बृहतो दिवोऽभि यूथेव पश्यतः । ऋतावाना सम्राजा नमसे हिता
Upon the vast heaven, as if over a herd, you two, upholders of truth, sovereigns, watch over us; to you I bow, O helpers.
ऋतावाना नि षेदतुः साम्राज्याय सुक्रतू । धृतव्रता क्षत्रिया क्षत्रमाशतुः
Upholders of truth, may you sit down for sovereignty, endowed with excellent wisdom; steadfast in vows, royal, may you attain dominion.
अक्ष्णश्चिद्गातुवित्तरानुल्बणेन चक्षसा । नि चिन्मिषन्ता निचिरा नि चिक्यतुः
Even with their eyes, knowing the path, with unclouded vision, they do not close them; ever watchful, they do not look away.
उत नो देव्यदितिरुरुष्यतां नासत्या । उरुष्यन्तु मरुतो वृद्धशवसः
May the goddess Aditi be gracious to us, and the two Aśvins; may the Maruts, of increasing might, be gracious to us.
ते नो नावमुरुष्यत दिवा नक्तं सुदानवः । अरिष्यन्तो नि पायुभिः सचेमहि
May those generous ones carry us safely, like a ship, by day and by night; unharmed, may we be united with their protection.
अघ्नते विष्णवे वयमरिष्यन्तः सुदानवे । श्रुधि स्वयावन्सिन्धो पूर्वचित्तये
We, unharmed, seek for Viṣṇu, the generous one; hear us, O self-moving Sindhu, for our former intent.
तद्वार्यं वृणीमहे वरिष्ठं गोपयत्यम् । मित्रो यत्पान्ति वरुणो यदर्यमा
We choose that excellent and most desirable protection, which Mitra, Varuṇa, and Aryaman guard.
उत नः सिन्धुरपां तन्मरुतस्तदश्विना । इन्द्रो विष्णुर्मीढ्वांसः सजोषसः
May the Sindhu, the waters, the Maruts, the Aśvins, Indra, and Viṣṇu, all united and gracious, protect us.
ते हि ष्मा वनुषो नरोऽभिमातिं कयस्य चित् । तिग्मं न क्षोदः प्रतिघ्नन्ति भूर्णयः
For they, indeed, O men, repel the attack of any foe; like a sharp wave, the mighty ones drive back the assailants.
अयमेक इत्था पुरूरु चष्टे वि विश्पतिः । तस्य व्रतान्यनु वश्चरामसि
This one alone, thus, the lord of all, sees far and wide; we move according to his ordinances.
अनु पूर्वाण्योक्या साम्राज्यस्य सश्चिम । मित्रस्य व्रता वरुणस्य दीर्घश्रुत्
Following the ancient words of sovereignty, we pursue the ordinances of Mitra and the far-heard Varuṇa.
परि यो रश्मिना दिवोऽन्तान्ममे पृथिव्याः । उभे आ पप्रौ रोदसी महित्वा
He who measured out the ends of heaven with his ray, from the earth—he filled both heaven and earth with his greatness.
उदु ष्य शरणे दिवो ज्योतिरयंस्त सूर्यः । अग्निर्न शुक्रः समिधान आहुतः
The light has risen in the shelter of heaven; that is the Sun, radiant like fire, kindled and shining brightly.
वचो दीर्घप्रसद्मनीशे वाजस्य गोमतः । ईशे हि पित्वोऽविषस्य दावने
He is master of speech, of vast and clear expression, and of wealth abundant in cattle; indeed, he is lord of nourishment and of the pasture for grazing.
