अग्ने तव त्ये अजरेन्धानासो बृहद्भाः । अश्वा इव वृषणस्तविषीयवः
O Agni, those flames of yours, undying, shining greatly, are like powerful, vigorous stallions.
स त्वं न ऊर्जां पते रयिं रास्व सुवीर्यम् । प्राव नस्तोके तनये समत्स्वा
So you, lord of strength, grant us wealth and good heroism; protect us in our offspring, in our children, in battles.
यद्वा उ विश्पतिः शितः सुप्रीतो मनुषो विशि । विश्वेदग्निः प्रति रक्षांसि सेधति
Whenever the lord of the people, sharp, well-pleased among men, Agni repels all the threats.
श्रुष्ट्यग्ने नवस्य मे स्तोमस्य वीर विश्पते । नि मायिनस्तपुषा रक्षसो दह
Hear, O Agni, my new hymn, O heroic lord of the people; burn up the sorcerers, the demons, with your heat.
न तस्य मायया चन रिपुरीशीत मर्त्यः । यो अग्नये ददाश हव्यदातिभिः
No mortal enemy can overpower by cunning the one who has given offerings to Agni, the bearer of oblations.
व्यश्वस्त्वा वसुविदमुक्षण्युरप्रीणादृषिः । महो राये तमु त्वा समिधीमहि
The seer, desiring wealth, praised you, the giver of riches, O swift one; for great treasure, we kindle you.
उशना काव्यस्त्वा नि होतारमसादयत् । आयजिं त्वा मनवे जातवेदसम्
Uśanā Kāvya appointed you as the priest; as the sacrificer, he chose you, Jātavedas, for Manu.
विश्वे हि त्वा सजोषसो देवासो दूतमक्रत । श्रुष्टी देव प्रथमो यज्ञियो भुवः
All the gods together made you their messenger; you, O god, became the first, worthy of sacrifice, to be heard.
इमं घा वीरो अमृतं दूतं कृण्वीत मर्त्यः । पावकं कृष्णवर्तनिं विहायसम्
Let a man make this immortal one his messenger, this shining, black-tracked, soaring Agni.
तं हुवेम यतस्रुचः सुभासं शुक्रशोचिषम् । विशामग्निमजरं प्रत्नमीड्यम्
We invoke him, whose ladles are ready, who is bright, with pure flames—Agni of the peoples, ageless, ancient, worthy of praise.
यो अस्मै हव्यदातिभिराहुतिं मर्तोऽविधत् । भूरि पोषं स धत्ते वीरवद्यशः
Whoever, with offerings, presents oblation to him, Agni, that mortal gains abundant nourishment, heroic fame.
प्रथमं जातवेदसमग्निं यज्ञेषु पूर्व्यम् । प्रति स्रुगेति नमसा हविष्मती
To Jātavedas, Agni, first-born, ancient in sacrifices, the offering-laden ladle goes forth with reverence.
आभिर्विधेमाग्नये ज्येष्ठाभिर्व्यश्ववत् । मंहिष्ठाभिर्मतिभिः शुक्रशोचिषे
With these, the foremost, abundant, wise praises, let us serve Agni of shining flame, rich in horses.
नूनमर्च विहायसे स्तोमेभि स्थूरयूपवत् । ऋषे वैयश्व दम्यायाग्नये
Now let us praise the soaring one with hymns, with lofty posts, the sage Vaiyaśva’s youthful Agni.
अतिथिं मानुषाणां सूनुं वनस्पतीनाम् । विप्रा अग्निमवसे प्रत्नमीळते
The wise invoke Agni, the ancient guest of humankind, the son of the forest trees, for help.
महो विश्वाँ अभि षतोऽभि हव्यानि मानुषा । अग्ने नि षत्सि नमसाधि बर्हिषि
Agni, you sit among all the offerings of humans, surrounded by greatness, on the sacred grass with reverence.
वंस्वा नो वार्या पुरु वंस्व रायः पुरुस्पृहः । सुवीर्यस्य प्रजावतो यशस्वतः
Grant us many desirable boons, grant us much wealth, abundant in sons, heroic strength, and fame.
त्वं वरो सुषाम्णेऽग्ने जनाय चोदय । सदा वसो रातिं यविष्ठ शश्वते
Agni, bestow blessings upon the generous one; always, youngest Vasu, inspire gifts for the worshipper.
त्वं हि सुप्रतूरसि त्वं नो गोमतीरिषः । महो रायः सातिमग्ने अपा वृधि
For you are a sure protector; grant us, Agni, rich possessions, abundant in cattle, and increase our great wealth.
अग्ने त्वं यशा अस्या मित्रावरुणा वह । ऋतावाना सम्राजा पूतदक्षसा
Agni, you carry the glory of this rite; bring Mitra and Varuna, the sovereigns, righteous and pure in wisdom.
सखाय आ शिषामहि ब्रह्मेन्द्राय वज्रिणे । स्तुष ऊ षु वो नृतमाय धृष्णवे
Friends, let us seek Indra, the wielder of the bolt, with our hymns; let us praise the most heroic and bold one among men.
शवसा ह्यसि श्रुतो वृत्रहत्येन वृत्रहा । मघैर्मघोनो अति शूर दाशसि
For you are renowned for your might, slayer of Vṛtra, by your heroic deeds; generous one, you surpass the generous with your gifts.
स न स्तवान आ भर रयिं चित्रश्रवस्तमम् । निरेके चिद्यो हरिवो वसुर्ददिः
May he, whom we praise, bring us wealth, most splendid in fame; even to the one who is apart, O eager one, you give riches.
आ निरेकमुत प्रियमिन्द्र दर्षि जनानाम् । धृषता धृष्णो स्तवमान आ भर
You have seen the one who is apart, and also the dear one among people, O Indra; mighty and bold, bring what we praise.
न ते सव्यं न दक्षिणं हस्तं वरन्त आमुरः । न परिबाधो हरिवो गविष्टिषु
No foe can restrain your left or right hand, O eager one; nor can any hindrance stop you in your contests for cattle.
आ त्वा गोभिरिव व्रजं गीर्भिरृणोम्यद्रिवः । आ स्मा कामं जरितुरा मनः पृण
O stone-bearer, I urge you with words as with cows into the pen; fulfill the desire of the singer, fill his mind.
विश्वानि विश्वमनसो धिया नो वृत्रहन्तम । उग्र प्रणेतरधि षू वसो गहि
Slayer of Vṛtra, with your all-encompassing mind and wisdom, mighty one, come with help for us, O Vasu.
वयं ते अस्य वृत्रहन्विद्याम शूर नव्यसः । वसो स्पार्हस्य पुरुहूत राधसः
O slayer of Vṛtra, may we know your newest favor, O heroic one; O much-invoked Vasu, of your splendid bounty.
इन्द्र यथा ह्यस्ति तेऽपरीतं नृतो शवः । अमृक्ता रातिः पुरुहूत दाशुषे
Indra, as your heroic power is unfailing, O leader, so is your untainted bounty, much-invoked one, for the worshipper.
आ वृषस्व महामह महे नृतम राधसे । दृळ्हश्चिद्दृह्य मघवन्मघत्तये
Pour forth, O mighty one, for the great rite, for the most heroic reward; even the firm, O generous one, you make firm for the gift.
