Make our mind auspicious in the overcoming of obstacles, by which you prevail in battles; loosen firm bonds, let abundant hosts be victorious, may we win with your aids.
I praise with voice the one established by Manu, whom the gods made their messenger, the swiftest, the bearer of offerings.
To the sharp-jawed, youthful, shining Agni, the leader of song, who is adorned with fair words and strong manliness, who is invoked with offerings of ghee.
When Agni, invoked with offerings of ghee, rises high, O Bharata, like a lordly spirit at the altar.
He, established by Manu, who brings the offerings, the god with pleasant fragrance, dispenses desirable treasures, the immortal priest, the god of the right ritual.
O Agni, may I, a mortal, become your friend, and you, O immortal, be my friend, O invoked son of strength.
May you not grant me to the curse, O gracious one, nor to evil, nor let my praiser or my offspring be exceedingly wrong, O Agni, nor to sin.
Like a well-nourished son from his father’s house, O gods, let our offering come forth to us.
With your nearest aids, O Agni, may I always find favor, O gracious one, as a mortal with the god.
By your will may I gain, by your gifts, O Agni, by your praises; they call you the bestower, O gracious one—O Agni, rejoice in giving to me.
He advances, O Agni, with your aids, with heroic strength and prize-bearing arms, he whose friendship you protect.
Your flame, dark-hued, O ritual fire, the kindler has placed; you are dear to the great dawns, you rule the nights in their abodes.
To him we have come, O companions, for help, to the thousand-strong, our own desired one, to the sovereign Trasadasyu.
Of you, O Agni, other fires are kindled, like birds; your powers, like rays, descend among the people, increasing your dominions.
You, O Adityas, who are free from falsehood, lead the mortal across; you are the generous givers, the benefactors of all.
You, O kings, who are victorious over men, protect whomever among mortals you wish; we, O Varuna, Mitra, Aryaman, would be the charioteers of truth for you.
Paurukutsya gave me fifty brides of Trasadasyu; the noble lord, the true master, was most generous.
And for me, among the Prayiyas and Urvayiyas, may there be good fortune in Tugva's house; Shyava, the leader of the wise, became the benefactor, the lord of the inspired.
Come here, do not falter; let your intentions not be divided, nor your spirits stand apart; even the firm-hearted are moved.
With your shining forms, O Maruts, delighting in strength, O Rudras, with your good gifts, come to us today, eager for the offering, you who are ever striving, O Sobharis.
We know indeed the fierce might of the Rudrian ones, the powerful Maruts, the roaring ones, and the bounty of this Vishnu.
The two worlds are yoked together as the swift ones stand ready; the shining ones have traversed the fields, when you, self-luminous, set forth.
At your birth, even the unshaken mountains and the trees tremble; the earth quivers beneath your courses.
For your coming, O Maruts, the vast upper sky is stirred; there, men display their strength in their bodies, their skins, and the might of their arms.
According to their own power, the men, mighty, splendid, and strong, carry their glory, their undiminished strength.
With cows is the offering anointed, in the chariot of the Sobharis, in the golden vessel; well-born, kin to cows, great ones, they are not to be assailed for sustenance.
Offer to you, the bull-like, the Marut host, the oblations for the strong, for the Maruts, for the vigorous, for the eager for the offering.
With bull-like horses, O Maruts, with bull-like strength, with a bull-like chariot, with bull-like wheels, like eagles, the swift ones, come, O men, to our offering for our aid.
Their ornaments are alike, they shine forth, golden on their arms; their spears flash with lightning.
They are fierce, bull-like, with mighty arms; none among men have equaled them; their firm bows and weapons are on their chariots, and their splendor is in their ranks.
