For glory, for fame, for heroic protection, for skill, for wisdom.
Whenever, O Ashvins, you sit in the womb of the father with thoughts, or with gracious words.
Whether you are in the far expanse, or in the shining realm of heaven, or in the house built upon the sea, come here, O Ashvins.
Whether you wish to join the sacrifice for Manu, or awaken for the Kāṇva, I invoke all the gods, Brihaspati, Indra, Vishnu, and the Ashvins with strong praise.
I call upon you, O Ashvins, of good counsel, established in the house; whose friendship among the gods is to be praised for us.
Upon whom the sacrifices and offerings rest, the radiant ones; those who, with their own powers, drink the sweet Soma at the ritual.
Whether today, O Ashvins, you are called from afar, or you are the givers of horses; whether among the Druhyus or Turvashas, or among the Yadus, I call you, come to us.
Whether you fly in the midspace, O bountiful ones, or traverse these two worlds; or whether you stand by your own powers in the chariot, come here, O Ashvins.
You, Agni, are the guardian of vows, O god, among mortals; you are worthy of praise in sacrifices.
You are renowned in assemblies, powerful; Agni, you are the charioteer of rituals.
So you, O Jātavedas, drive away our enemies; O Agni, repel the godless hostilities.
Even when you are near, you do not carry the sacrifice of the mortal enemy, O Jātavedas.
Mortals honor your many names, O immortal; the wise ones of Jātavedas.
The wise call upon the wise for help, mortals for aid; we invoke Agni, the god, with songs.
To you, O Agni, my mind, like a calf, has come from the highest seat of thought; with my voice I desire you.
For you are truly friendly in many places, ruling over all peoples; in battles we call upon you.
In battles, seeking aid, we call upon Agni, the bestower of strength, who grants splendid riches in contests.
Ancient and worthy of praise are you at the sacrifices, both old and ever new as Hotar; O Agni, fulfill your own nature and grant us good fortune.
That exhilarating draught, O Indra, most powerful, stirs you; with it you strike down the restrainer, and for that we seek you.
With it you shook the ten-headed, the Adhrigu, the trembling one, the singer of sweet songs; with it you reached the ocean, and for that we seek you.
With it you set in motion the great rivers, like chariots, O Indra; to travel the path of truth, for that we seek you.
This praise, like clarified butter, purified, is for your favor, O stone-armed one; by which indeed you have quickly increased in strength.
Accept this hymn, O song-loving one, which flows like the ocean; O Indra, with all your aids you have increased in strength.
He, the god, whom we have invoked from afar for friendship, has spread rain from the sky, and you have increased in strength.
His rays have increased, and his thunderbolt in his hands; as the sun, he has expanded the two worlds.
When, O lord of the good, the mighty, a thousand buffaloes grew strong, then your great power, O Indra, was truly increased.
Indra, with the rays of the sun, has destroyed the hostile ones; Agni, like fire in the forest, has grown greatly in strength.
This hymn, accompanied by the seasons, comes forth, ever new; worshipping, beloved by many, it measures out praise.
The embryo of sacrifice, divine, purifies the will continually; with hymns, the praise of Indra is measured out.
Indra, friendless, has spread wide for the drinking of Soma; like a craftsman for the presser, he measures out the eastward space.
