You stand upon the chariot among the strong-handed, where the gifts of Sharyata are offered for your delight; Indra, as you rejoice in the pressed Soma, you ascend to the undiminished glory in heaven.
You have given the young one to the great speaker, to Kakshivat, O Indra, for the pressing; you were not deceived by Vrishanashva, O wise one—all your deeds at the pressings are to be proclaimed.
Indra, the well-pressed Soma has been poured for you; the hymn has been set forth in the vessels, like a post at the sacrifice. Indra, who is yoked with horses, with cows, with chariots, and with wealth, is the leader who brings prosperity to this rite.
This reverence I have spoken for the Bull, the lord of light, whose strength is true and whose power is mighty. In this assembly, O Indra, may we, with all our heroes and our generous patrons, be under your protection.
With splendid hymns, let us praise that ram, the knower of light, with whom a hundred strong ones rejoice together. Like a swift horse, a prize-winning chariot at the call, may we turn to Indra for help with well-spoken words.
He, like a mountain, unshaken in his foundations, with a thousand powers, has grown in might. When Indra slew Vṛtra, who covered the rivers, he released the waters, exulting in the Soma.
He, the best of defenders in battles, with a shining belly, grown strong with exhilaration and wisdom—him, Indra, I call with clear insight, the greatest giver, for he delights in the Soma.
Him whom the seats in heaven fill, like the ocean, with their own riches—towards him, in the slaying of Vṛtra, the streams have stood firm; Indra's might, unwearied, has brought the waters, their strength not stolen away.
At his own exhilaration, the streams rushed forth as if down a steep slope, when Indra, armed with the thunderbolt, bold with the Soma, broke open the barriers of Vala, as Trita did.
His radiance moves around with heat, eager for battle; he reached the bottom of the atmosphere, having conquered the waters. When, in the descent of Vṛtra, with difficult-to-hold weapons, you struck down the thunder, O Indra.
The waves do not reach you, like a deep pool, O Indra, for your praises are what increase you. Even Tvaṣṭṛ, with skill, has increased your might; he fashioned the thunderbolt, overwhelming in strength.
You, having struck down Vṛtra with your steeds, O Indra, making a path for man, released the waters. You bestowed the iron thunderbolt from your arms, and you held up the sun in the sky for sight.
The great, shining, praiseworthy hymn they made out of fear, as if climbing to the summit of heaven, when the Maruts, delighting in songs, rejoiced with Indra, the leader of men.
Even the sky, at the roar of your thunder, O Indra, trembled with fear at the sound of your thunderbolt. When, in your exhilaration, you struck off the head of Vṛtra, who was bound, with the strength of the pressed Soma.
When, O Indra, the earth with ten arms and all the peoples stretched out, then, O bountiful one, your renowned might became manifest, and your power was exalted to the sky.
You, with your own power, O Indra, and bold mind, have crossed to the farthest end of the atmosphere and the sky. You made the earth a measure of your strength; you encompassed the waters and the sun, and you reach the heavens.
You are the measure of the earth, the lord of the lofty, mighty world. You have encompassed all the midspace in your greatness; truly, there is no one else like you.
For whom neither heaven nor earth can reach the limit, nor the rivers attain the end of his might; nor, in his exhilaration, do the streams, in battle, match him—he alone has accomplished all among men.
Here the Maruts shouted in that battle; all the gods rejoiced together with you, when, by the blazing weapon, you, O Indra, struck down the retreat of Vṛtra.
Now let us bring forth speech for the great, let us raise songs to Indra in the house of the Sun. For even now, the treasure is found as if by those seeking it; no ill-praised one is praised among the givers of wealth.
Far is the horse, far, O Indra, is the cow; far is the barley, O Lord of wealth. O men, learn this: the friend, not desiring, from the highest heaven, we praise with friends.
Like a strong woman, O Indra, doer of many deeds, most radiant, your wealth is watched on every side. Therefore, having gathered, bring it here, overcoming; let not the singer’s desire fail you.
With these shining ones, with these drops, well-minded, restraining folly with cows and horses, with Indra, may we destroy the foe with the drops; and, free from hatred, may we obtain the prize together.
Together with Indra, with wealth, may we obtain the prize; together with steeds, shining in the forefront, victorious. Together with the goddess, with the mighty, heroic, cow-rich, horse-bearing, may we obtain the prize.
Those exhilarations, O mighty one, those strengths have delighted you; those Somas, O lord of the good, in the slaying of Vṛtra. When for Kārava you struck down ten Vṛtras, you cast down thousands for the one who sits on the grass.
With battle you approach battle, with boldness; of old you destroyed the city with your might. When, O Indra, with worthy friendship at the border, you struck down Namuci, the crafty one, by name.
You slew Karañja and Parṇaya with your sharpest weapon on Atithigva’s path. You broke a hundred fortresses of Vaṅgṛdas, you drove away the defenders with Ṛjiśvan.
You, for these, the sons of Janarāja, twice ten, with their kinsman Suśravas, who had come near, you, famed one, struck down sixty thousand and ninety-nine with the wheel of your chariot, O breaker of obstacles.
You aided Suśravas with your protections, with your safeguards, O Indra, you aided Tūrvayāṇa. You gave Kutsā, Atithigva, and Āyu to him, to the great, youthful king, for victory.
Those who, O Indra, are your friends, the divine guardians, are most auspicious. We will praise you; with you as our ally, may we, possessing good men, hold a longer, further life.
