ज्येष्ठेन सोतरिन्द्राय सोमं वीराय शक्राय । भरा पिबन्नर्याय
With the eldest, press Soma for Indra, the heroic, the mighty; offer, let the noble one drink.
यो वेदिष्ठो अव्यथिष्वश्वावन्तं जरितृभ्यः । वाजं स्तोतृभ्यो गोमन्तम्
He who is most to be invoked among helpers gives to the singers horses and wealth, and to the praisers, cattle.
पन्यम्पन्यमित्सोतार आ धावत मद्याय । सोमं वीराय शूराय
One after another, O pressers, hasten for the intoxicating drink, Soma, for the heroic, the mighty.
पाता वृत्रहा सुतमा घा गमन्नारे अस्मत् । नि यमते शतमूतिः
Let the slayer of Vṛtra drink the pressed Soma here; then the hundredfold-aided one restrains the foe from us.
एह हरी ब्रह्मयुजा शग्मा वक्षतः सखायम् । गीर्भिः श्रुतं गिर्वणसम्
Here, let the two bay steeds yoked by prayer bring the famous one, the friend, the one renowned by songs, the lover of hymns.
स्वादवः सोमा आ याहि श्रीताः सोमा आ याहि । शिप्रिन्नृषीवः शचीवो नायमच्छा सधमादम्
Come to the sweet Somas, come to the shining Somas, O bright-jawed, powerful one, come here to the shared feast like a sage among men.
स्तुतश्च यास्त्वा वर्धन्ति महे राधसे नृम्णाय । इन्द्र कारिणं वृधन्तः
Those who praise you, Indra, increase you for great bounty and manly strength, exalting the doer.
गिरश्च यास्ते गिर्वाह उक्था च तुभ्यं तानि । सत्रा दधिरे शवांसि
And those songs of yours, O lover of songs, and those hymns for you, all these have united in your powers.
एवेदेष तुविकूर्मिर्वाजाँ एको वज्रहस्तः । सनादमृक्तो दयते
This very one, strong in action, the sole wielder of the bolt, bestows prizes without fail.
हन्ता वृत्रं दक्षिणेनेन्द्रः पुरू पुरुहूतः । महान्महीभिः शचीभिः
Indra, invoked by many, strikes down Vṛtra with his right hand, great with mighty powers.
यस्मिन्विश्वाश्चर्षणय उत च्यौत्ना ज्रयांसि च । अनु घेन्मन्दी मघोनः
In whom all peoples and even the decaying, aging things abide; in whom, O generous one, the decrees follow in order.
एष एतानि चकारेन्द्रो विश्वा योऽति शृण्वे । वाजदावा मघोनाम्
This Indra has accomplished all these deeds, who is renowned for surpassing all, the bestower of prizes among the generous.
प्रभर्ता रथं गव्यन्तमपाकाच्चिद्यमवति । इनो वसु स हि वोळ्हा
He sets forth the chariot seeking cattle, even from afar he brings it safely; he is the carrier of wealth, indeed the bearer for you.
सनिता विप्रो अर्वद्भिर्हन्ता वृत्रं नृभिः शूरः । सत्योऽविता विधन्तम्
The inspired one is a provider with horses, a slayer of Vṛtra with men, a true protector who accomplishes.
यजध्वैनं प्रियमेधा इन्द्रं सत्राचा मनसा । यो भूत्सोमैः सत्यमद्वा
Worship him, Indra, with dear offerings, with united mind; who has become true through the Somas, the undeceived.
गाथश्रवसं सत्पतिं श्रवस्कामं पुरुत्मानम् । कण्वासो गात वाजिनम्
The Kanvas sing of Gāthaśravas, the true lord, desiring glory, of wide renown, the winner of prizes.
य ऋते चिद्गास्पदेभ्यो दात्सखा नृभ्यः शचीवान् । ये अस्मिन्काममश्रियन्
He, even without being asked, gives cattle from his dwelling, a friend to men, powerful; those who have sought desire in him.
इत्था धीवन्तमद्रिवः काण्वं मेध्यातिथिम् । मेषो भूतोऽभि यन्नयः
Thus, O stone-splitter, you have made the wise Kāṇva, the pure guest, like a ram, when you led him forth.
शिक्षा विभिन्दो अस्मै चत्वार्ययुता ददत् । अष्टा परः सहस्रा
Grant, O Vibhindu, to him four tens of thousands; and eight thousand more beyond.
उत सु त्ये पयोवृधा माकी रणस्य नप्त्या । जनित्वनाय मामहे
And those who are nourished by milk, let them not be deprived of the joy of battle; may we be born for that purpose.
पिबा सुतस्य रसिनो मत्स्वा न इन्द्र गोमतः । आपिर्नो बोधि सधमाद्यो वृधेऽस्माँ अवन्तु ते धियः
Drink of the pressed, exhilarating Soma, delight in the cattle-rich offering, O Indra; be our ally, O companion at the feast, for our increase—may your thoughts protect us.
भूयाम ते सुमतौ वाजिनो वयं मा न स्तरभिमातये । अस्माञ्चित्राभिरवतादभिष्टिभिरा नः सुम्नेषु यामय
May we be in your good favor, O prize-giver; let us not fall before the hostile one; may you protect us with wondrous aids, lead us into your kindness.
इमा उ त्वा पुरूवसो गिरो वर्धन्तु या मम । पावकवर्णाः शुचयो विपश्चितोऽभि स्तोमैरनूषत
May these songs, O far-seeing one, which are mine, increase you; bright in color, pure, wise, they have approached you with praises.
अयं सहस्रमृषिभिः सहस्कृतः समुद्र इव पप्रथे । सत्यः सो अस्य महिमा गृणे शवो यज्ञेषु विप्रराज्ये
This one, mighty with a thousand seers, has spread out like the ocean; true is his greatness, I praise his power in sacrifices, in the sovereignty of the inspired.
इन्द्रमिद्देवतातय इन्द्रं प्रयत्यध्वरे । इन्द्रं समीके वनिनो हवामह इन्द्रं धनस्य सातये
To Indra alone, for the sake of the gods, to Indra at the offering, to Indra in the assembly, the forest-dwellers call; to Indra for the gaining of wealth.
इन्द्रो मह्ना रोदसी पप्रथच्छव इन्द्रः सूर्यमरोचयत् । इन्द्रे ह विश्वा भुवनानि येमिर इन्द्रे सुवानास इन्दवः
Indra by his greatness has spread the two worlds; by his power Indra made the sun shine; in Indra all beings are contained; in Indra the pressed Somas are strong.
अभि त्वा पूर्वपीतय इन्द्र स्तोमेभिरायवः । समीचीनास ऋभवः समस्वरन्रुद्रा गृणन्त पूर्व्यम्
To you, Indra, the ancient drinkers, the Ayus, with praises; the Ribhus, in harmony, have sung together; the Rudras praise the ancient one.
अस्येदिन्द्रो वावृधे वृष्ण्यं शवो मदे सुतस्य विष्णवि । अद्या तमस्य महिमानमायवोऽनु ष्टुवन्ति पूर्वथा
Indra has grown in manly power, in strength, through the exhilaration of the pressed Soma; today the Ayus praise his greatness as in former times.
तत्त्वा यामि सुवीर्यं तद्ब्रह्म पूर्वचित्तये । येना यतिभ्यो भृगवे धने हिते येन प्रस्कण्वमाविथ
To you I approach for heroic strength, for that sacred power of old insight, by which you brought wealth to the Bhrigus, for the benefit of the devout, by which you aided Praskanva.
येना समुद्रमसृजो महीरपस्तदिन्द्र वृष्णि ते शवः । सद्यः सो अस्य महिमा न संनशे यं क्षोणीरनुचक्रदे
By which, O Indra, your manly might released the great rivers to the ocean; immediately his greatness does not diminish, whom the earth has not subdued.
