उत स्या नः सरस्वती जुषाणोप श्रवत्सुभगा यज्ञे अस्मिन् । मितज्ञुभिर्नमस्यैरियाना राया युजा चिदुत्तरा सखिभ्यः
May Sarasvati, gracious and famed, accept our offering in this sacrifice; with those who know the measure, with reverent worship, may she bring us wealth, even surpassing our friends.
इमा जुह्वाना युष्मदा नमोभिः प्रति स्तोमं सरस्वति जुषस्व । तव शर्मन्प्रियतमे दधाना उप स्थेयाम शरणं न वृक्षम्
These offerings, made with reverence, accept our praise, Sarasvati; placing your most beloved protection, may we approach you as one seeks shelter under a tree.
अयमु ते सरस्वति वसिष्ठो द्वारावृतस्य सुभगे व्यावः । वर्ध शुभ्रे स्तुवते रासि वाजान्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
Here, Sarasvati, Vasiṣṭha, the fortunate, has opened the gates; increase, O pure one, for the one who praises you, grant us strength, always protect us with blessings.
बृहदु गायिषे वचोऽसुर्या नदीनाम् । सरस्वतीमिन्महया सुवृक्तिभि स्तोमैर्वसिष्ठ रोदसी
I sing a great song to the mighty one, the goddess of rivers; Sarasvati, honor her with well-spoken hymns, Vasiṣṭha, with praises, O earth and sky.
उभे यत्ते महिना शुभ्रे अन्धसी अधिक्षियन्ति पूरवः । सा नो बोध्यवित्री मरुत्सखा चोद राधो मघोनाम्
Both your realms, O pure one, are filled with greatness, and the people dwell therein; may you be our helper, friend of the Maruts, inspire the generosity of the bountiful.
भद्रमिद्भद्रा कृणवत्सरस्वत्यकवारी चेतति वाजिनीवती । गृणाना जमदग्निवत्स्तुवाना च वसिष्ठवत्
May Sarasvati, the auspicious, make us fortunate; she is attentive, full of strength; praising like Jamadagni, and singing like Vasiṣṭha.
जनीयन्तो न्वग्रवः पुत्रीयन्तः सुदानवः । सरस्वन्तं हवामहे
Those who are born, who are strong, who are generous sons, we call upon Sarasvatī.
ये ते सरस्व ऊर्मयो मधुमन्तो घृतश्चुतः । तेभिर्नोऽविता भव
O Sarasvatī, those waves of yours, sweet and flowing with clarified butter, with them be our protector.
पीपिवांसं सरस्वत स्तनं यो विश्वदर्शतः । भक्षीमहि प्रजामिषम्
May we consume the nourishing milk of Sarasvatī, which is abundant and visible to all, as food for offspring.
यज्ञे दिवो नृषदने पृथिव्या नरो यत्र देवयवो मदन्ति । इन्द्राय यत्र सवनानि सुन्वे गमन्मदाय प्रथमं वयश्च
In the sacrifice, in the seat of men, on earth, where the noble ones rejoice, where I press the libations for Indra, for joy and for the first vigor.
आ दैव्या वृणीमहेऽवांसि बृहस्पतिर्नो मह आ सखायः । यथा भवेम मीळ्हुषे अनागा यो नो दाता परावतः पितेव
We choose the divine protections; may Bṛhaspati and our companions bring us greatness, so that we may be blameless for the generous, like a father who gives from afar.
तमु ज्येष्ठं नमसा हविर्भिः सुशेवं ब्रह्मणस्पतिं गृणीषे । इन्द्रं श्लोको महि दैव्यः सिषक्तु यो ब्रह्मणो देवकृतस्य राजा
I praise with reverence and offerings that eldest, most auspicious Brahmaṇaspati; let the divine hymn acclaim Indra, the king made by the gods for the priesthood.
स आ नो योनिं सदतु प्रेष्ठो बृहस्पतिर्विश्ववारो यो अस्ति । कामो रायः सुवीर्यस्य तं दात्पर्षन्नो अति सश्चतो अरिष्टान्
May Bṛhaspati, beloved and all-encompassing, establish our origin; let him grant the desire for wealth and heroic strength, leading us safely beyond dangers.
तमा नो अर्कममृताय जुष्टमिमे धासुरमृतासः पुराजाः । शुचिक्रन्दं यजतं पस्त्यानां बृहस्पतिमनर्वाणं हुवेम
We invoke Bṛhaspati, the immortal, who delights in our hymn, the ancient, pure-voiced, revered among households, unvanquished, for favor.
तं शग्मासो अरुषासो अश्वा बृहस्पतिं सहवाहो वहन्ति । सहश्चिद्यस्य नीलवत्सधस्थं नभो न रूपमरुषं वसानाः
Swift red horses carry Bṛhaspati, the mighty, whose seat is blue-black like the sky, whose form is radiant, adorned in brilliance.
स हि शुचिः शतपत्रः स शुन्ध्युर्हिरण्यवाशीरिषिरः स्वर्षाः । बृहस्पतिः स स्वावेश ऋष्वः पुरू सखिभ्य आसुतिं करिष्ठः
He is pure, with a hundred petals, beautiful, golden-maned, powerful, shining, Bṛhaspati, mighty in his own strength, exalted, who brings abundance to many friends.
देवी देवस्य रोदसी जनित्री बृहस्पतिं वावृधतुर्महित्वा । दक्षाय्याय दक्षता सखायः करद्ब्रह्मणे सुतरा सुगाधा
The divine pair, heaven and earth, creators, have magnified Bṛhaspati in greatness; through skill and friendship, they have made the priestly utterance most profound.
इयं वां ब्रह्मणस्पते सुवृक्तिर्ब्रह्मेन्द्राय वज्रिणे अकारि । अविष्टं धियो जिगृतं पुरंधीर्जजस्तमर्यो वनुषामरातीः
This hymn, O Brahmaṇaspati, is made for Indra, the wielder of the bolt; grant us protection, seize our thoughts, O wise one, and let the enemy's malice be destroyed.
बृहस्पते युवमिन्द्रश्च वस्वो दिव्यस्येशाथे उत पार्थिवस्य । धत्तं रयिं स्तुवते कीरये चिद्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
Bṛhaspati and you, Indra, are lords of the heavenly and earthly riches; bestow wealth upon the one who praises, and always protect us with blessings.
अध्वर्यवोऽरुणं दुग्धमंशुं जुहोतन वृषभाय क्षितीनाम् । गौराद्वेदीयाँ अवपानमिन्द्रो विश्वाहेद्याति सुतसोममिच्छन्
O priests, offer the ruddy milk to the bull among men; from the cow, pour out the drink for Indra, who desires all the pressed Soma.
यद्दधिषे प्रदिवि चार्वन्नं दिवेदिवे पीतिमिदस्य वक्षि । उत हृदोत मनसा जुषाण उशन्निन्द्र प्रस्थितान्पाहि सोमान्
What you have placed in the sky as delightful food, day by day you bring forth its nourishment; with heart and mind, accepting, O Indra, drink the Soma that has been prepared.
जज्ञानः सोमं सहसे पपाथ प्र ते माता महिमानमुवाच । एन्द्र पप्राथोर्वन्तरिक्षं युधा देवेभ्यो वरिवश्चकर्थ
Born for strength, Soma has been pressed; your mother declared your greatness; Indra, you have filled the wide space between earth and heaven, and made a path for the gods through battle.
यद्योधया महतो मन्यमानान्साक्षाम तान्बाहुभिः शाशदानान् । यद्वा नृभिर्वृत इन्द्राभियुध्यास्तं त्वयाजिं सौश्रवसं जयेम
When you fought the mighty ones who were proud, you subdued those who resisted with your arms; when you, Indra, fought with men, may we win the renowned battle with you.
प्रेन्द्रस्य वोचं प्रथमा कृतानि प्र नूतना मघवा या चकार । यदेददेवीरसहिष्ट माया अथाभवत्केवलः सोमो अस्य
I speak of Indra's earliest deeds, and now of the new ones Maghavan has done; when the goddesses could not withstand his power, then Soma became his alone.
तवेदं विश्वमभितः पशव्यं यत्पश्यसि चक्षसा सूर्यस्य । गवामसि गोपतिरेक इन्द्र भक्षीमहि ते प्रयतस्य वस्वः
All this world around is indeed your pasture, whatever you see with the eye of the sun. You are the herdsman, Indra, the sole lord of the cows; may we partake of your offered wealth.
बृहस्पते युवमिन्द्रश्च वस्वो दिव्यस्येशाथे उत पार्थिवस्य । धत्तं रयिं स्तुवते कीरये चिद्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
O Bṛhaspati, you and Indra are the rulers of the heavenly and earthly wealth. Grant riches to the one who praises, even to the singer; always protect us with well-being.
परो मात्रया तन्वा वृधान न ते महित्वमन्वश्नुवन्ति । उभे ते विद्म रजसी पृथिव्या विष्णो देव त्वं परमस्य वित्से
Exceeding measure and body, you grow, and none attain your greatness. We know both your realms, O Viṣṇu, god—you comprehend the highest expanse.
न ते विष्णो जायमानो न जातो देव महिम्नः परमन्तमाप । उदस्तभ्ना नाकमृष्वं बृहन्तं दाधर्थ प्राचीं ककुभं पृथिव्याः
Neither being born nor after birth, O god Viṣṇu, has anyone reached the utmost limit of your greatness. You have upheld the lofty, broad heaven and established the eastern quarter of the earth.
इरावती धेनुमती हि भूतं सूयवसिनी मनुषे दशस्या । व्यस्तभ्ना रोदसी विष्णवेते दाधर्थ पृथिवीमभितो मयूखैः
Let the earth be rich in refreshment, abundant in milk, yielding good things for man. O Viṣṇu, you have stretched apart the two worlds; you have established the earth all around with your rays.
उरुं यज्ञाय चक्रथुरु लोकं जनयन्ता सूर्यमुषासमग्निम् । दासस्य चिद्वृषशिप्रस्य माया जघ्नथुर्नरा पृतनाज्येषु
You made a wide space for sacrifice, bringing forth the sun, the dawn, and Agni. Even the cunning magic of the Dāsa with strong armor you, O heroes, destroyed in battle.
