Your breath is the wind, your robe is the atmosphere, ever renewed; your might is like a horse, strong and swift. Within the vast earth and heaven, all your beloved abodes, O Varuṇa, are present.
The two worlds, earth and heaven, see the boundaries set by Varuṇa, well-ordered. The truthful, wise, and sacrificial thinkers, those with insight, seek to discern his will.
Varuṇa spoke to the thoughtful one: the cow bears three times seven names. Knowing the secret of the path, he does not speak it; the inspired one learns for the coming age.
Three heavens are set within, three earths above, six in their arrangement. The wise king Varuṇa made this golden swing, shining, in the sky.
Varuṇa, like the sky, stands above the river; the shining, swift, white beast, powerful as a drop, is his. Deep in thought, he surveys the expanse; his rule is excellent, he is the king of what exists.
He who brings mercy even to the one who has erred—may we be sinless before Varuṇa. Following the laws of Aditi, increasing in strength, may you always protect us with blessings.
Vasiṣṭha, offer your most excellent hymn to Varuṇa, the generous one, who acts nearby, worthy of worship, thousand-gifted, mighty, and great.
Then, having seen his vision, I have approached the presence of Agni and the thought of Varuṇa. May those who possess the heavenly food, the lords of nourishment, bring their form to be seen by me.
When Varuṇa and I boarded the boat, when we set out for the middle of the ocean, when we moved among the waters with the oars, let us swing the shining swing.
Varuṇa made Vasiṣṭha a seer from the boat; the wise one, by his great powers. He made the singer, the inspired one, blessed with good days, whom the heavens and the dawns have extended.
Where now are those friendships of ours, with whom we once consorted, even in ancient times? O Varuṇa, mighty and self-sustaining, I have reached your house with a thousand doors.
He who is your constant, beloved friend, O Varuṇa, who commits offenses, let him be your companion. May we not, being sinful, suffer your wrath; grant protection to the singer who praises you.
As we dwell upon these enduring abodes, may Varuṇa release us from his snare; may those who strive for favor approach the lap of Aditi; may you always guard us with well-being.
O Varuṇa, O King, let me not go to a house of clay; be gracious, O mighty ruler, show mercy.
If I move as if trembling, like an unbaked vessel, O thunderer, be gracious, O mighty ruler, show mercy.
When my resolve falters and I go astray, O pure one, be gracious, O mighty ruler, show mercy.
When I stand in the midst of waters, thirsting and aged, be gracious, O mighty ruler, show mercy.
Whatever offense we humans commit against the divine order, O Varuṇa, whether knowingly or unknowingly, do not let that sin, O god, harm us.
The pure, honeyed libations have been poured for you with vigor by the priests; come, Vāyu, with your teams, approach and drink the pressed Soma for exhilaration.
To you, Vāyu, who rule, is offered the pure Soma by the one who brings the oblation; you make him renowned among mortals, and with each birth, the prize is born for the eager one.
For whom the two worlds were born for wealth, for whom the divine Dhiṣaṇā grants riches; then the teams accompany Vāyu, and the shining, wealth-bringing one is yoked.
The Dawns have risen, bringing fair days, revealing wide light as they shine; even the cows have spread out in the broad expanse, and the waters have flowed according to their course.
They, shining with true intent, yoked by their own will, bear the chariot of Indra and Vāyu, full of heroes; the swift teams join together for the lords.
Those lords who possess the sun, cattle, horses, riches, and gold; Indra and Vāyu, the mighty ones, conquer all life with their horses and heroes in battles.
Like swift horses seeking fame, O Indra and Vāyu, the Vasiṣṭhas praise you with fair hymns; granting strength, we call upon you for good fortune—may you always guard us with well-being.
Who knows, those ancient gods, flawless and mighty, were worshipped with reverence; they made the Dawn rise for Vāyu and for Manu, who was oppressed, together with the Sun.
The shining messengers, undeceivable guardians, watched over the months and many seasons; O Indra and Vāyu, your praise is ever new, I seek your gracious favor and fresh prosperity.
Rich in food, wealth-increasing, wise, and shining, the glory of the teams is abundant; they, united in purpose for Vāyu, stood forth, all the men performed their lordly deeds.
As far as your bodies reach, as great as your strength, as far as your vision shines, O Indra and Vāyu, drink the pure Soma with delight; sit here on this sacred grass.
Yoking the splendid teams, O Indra and Vāyu, come together on one chariot; for this, your foremost portion of the sweet offering, let your favor be released to us.
