तावदुषो राधो अस्मभ्यं रास्व यावत्स्तोतृभ्यो अरदो गृणाना । यां त्वा जज्ञुर्वृषभस्या रवेण वि दृळ्हस्य दुरो अद्रेरौर्णोः
O Dawn, grant us as much wealth as you have given to your praisers; you whom they have brought forth with the roar of the bull, breaking open the strong doors of the cloud.
देवंदेवं राधसे चोदयन्त्यस्मद्र्यक्सूनृता ईरयन्ती । व्युच्छन्ती नः सनये धियो धा यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
Urging on the gods for gifts, she inspires us to truth; as you shine forth, grant us wisdom for prosperity; may you always protect us with blessings.
प्रति स्तोमेभिरुषसं वसिष्ठा गीर्भिर्विप्रासः प्रथमा अबुध्रन् । विवर्तयन्तीं रजसी समन्ते आविष्कृण्वतीं भुवनानि विश्वा
With hymns, the Vasiṣṭhas, the inspired ones, first awakened Dawn; she turns the two realms, revealing all the worlds.
एषा स्या नव्यमायुर्दधाना गूढ्वी तमो ज्योतिषोषा अबोधि । अग्र एति युवतिरह्रयाणा प्राचिकितत्सूर्यं यज्ञमग्निम्
She, bearing new life, has awakened from darkness to light; the youthful, unashamed maiden goes before, kindling the Sun, the sacrifice, and Agni.
अश्वावतीर्गोमतीर्न उषासो वीरवतीः सदमुच्छन्तु भद्राः । घृतं दुहाना विश्वतः प्रपीता यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
May Dawns rich in horses, cattle, and heroes always rise for us, bringing blessings; pouring forth ghee from every side—may you always protect us with blessings.
प्रत्यु अदर्श्यायत्युच्छन्ती दुहिता दिवः । अपो महि व्ययति चक्षसे तमो ज्योतिष्कृणोति सूनरी
She has appeared, the coming Dawn, daughter of heaven, shining forth; she drives away the great darkness for vision, making light, O radiant one.
उदुस्रियाः सृजते सूर्यः सचाँ उद्यन्नक्षत्रमर्चिवत् । तवेदुषो व्युषि सूर्यस्य च सं भक्तेन गमेमहि
The Sun rises together with his rays, the star ascends shining; at your dawning, O Dawn, and at the Sun's, may we go forth with our share.
प्रति त्वा दुहितर्दिव उषो जीरा अभुत्स्महि । या वहसि पुरु स्पार्हं वनन्वति रत्नं न दाशुषे मयः
To you, aged daughter of heaven, O Dawn, we have come; you bear much-desired, wondrous treasure for the worshipper.
उच्छन्ती या कृणोषि मंहना महि प्रख्यै देवि स्वर्दृशे । तस्यास्ते रत्नभाज ईमहे वयं स्याम मातुर्न सूनवः
O goddess, you who shine forth, performing great and renowned deeds, visible to all, to you who bestows treasures, we seek, that we may be like sons to a mother.
तच्चित्रं राध आ भरोषो यद्दीर्घश्रुत्तमम् । यत्ते दिवो दुहितर्मर्तभोजनं तद्रास्व भुनजामहै
Bring to us that wondrous gift, O daughter of heaven, that most renowned and far-heard bounty; grant us that which is fit for mortals, that we may enjoy it.
श्रवः सूरिभ्यो अमृतं वसुत्वनं वाजाँ अस्मभ्यं गोमतः । चोदयित्री मघोनः सूनृतावत्युषा उच्छदप स्रिधः
Bestow upon the inspired ones immortal fame and wealth, and upon us, O Uṣas, the prize rich in cattle; O encourager of the generous, rise up, dispel the darkness.
इन्द्रावरुणा युवमध्वराय नो विशे जनाय महि शर्म यच्छतम् । दीर्घप्रयज्युमति यो वनुष्यति वयं जयेम पृतनासु दूढ्यः
O Indra and Varuṇa, for our sacrifice and for our people, grant great protection; may we, who strive with long devotion, be victorious in battles, O guardians.
सम्राळन्यः स्वराळन्य उच्यते वां महान्ताविन्द्रावरुणा महावसू । विश्वे देवासः परमे व्योमनि सं वामोजो वृषणा सं बलं दधुः
You are called sovereigns, lords of light, O mighty Indra and Varuṇa, great givers of wealth; all the gods in the highest heaven have united their strength and power for you.
अन्वपां खान्यतृन्तमोजसा सूर्यमैरयतं दिवि प्रभुम् । इन्द्रावरुणा मदे अस्य मायिनोऽपिन्वतमपितः पिन्वतं धियः
With your power you have hollowed out the beds of the waters, you have set the sun, the lord, in the sky; O Indra and Varuṇa, in the exhilaration of this wondrous work, you have filled and inspired the thoughts of the wise.
युवामिद्युत्सु पृतनासु वह्नयो युवां क्षेमस्य प्रसवे मितज्ञवः । ईशाना वस्व उभयस्य कारव इन्द्रावरुणा सुहवा हवामहे
In battles, you are the fires, O wise ones, you are the source of safety; you are the lords of both kinds of wealth, O Indra and Varuṇa, readily called, we invoke you.
इन्द्रावरुणा यदिमानि चक्रथुर्विश्वा जातानि भुवनस्य मज्मना । क्षेमेण मित्रो वरुणं दुवस्यति मरुद्भिरुग्रः शुभमन्य ईयते
O Indra and Varuṇa, by your power you have made all these beings and all that is born; Mitra, with Varuṇa, brings security, and the mighty one with the Maruts advances with good fortune.
महे शुल्काय वरुणस्य नु त्विष ओजो मिमाते ध्रुवमस्य यत्स्वम् । अजामिमन्यः श्नथयन्तमातिरद्दभ्रेभिरन्यः प्र वृणोति भूयसः
For the great reward of Varuṇa, his strength is measured, his own is firm; one cuts down the unrighteous, another surpasses the weak, another chooses greater things.
न तमंहो न दुरितानि मर्त्यमिन्द्रावरुणा न तपः कुतश्चन । यस्य देवा गच्छथो वीथो अध्वरं न तं मर्तस्य नशते परिह्वृतिः
No harm, no evil, nor any suffering befalls the mortal, O Indra and Varuṇa, from any source, for whom you gods go before at the sacrifice; the error of mortals does not destroy him.
अर्वाङ्नरा दैव्येनावसा गतं शृणुतं हवं यदि मे जुजोषथः । युवोर्हि सख्यमुत वा यदाप्यं मार्डीकमिन्द्रावरुणा नि यच्छतम्
Come near, O men, with divine aid; listen to this call, if you are pleased with me; O Indra and Varuṇa, grant that friendship and favor, whatever is gracious and worthy.
अस्माकमिन्द्रावरुणा भरेभरे पुरोयोधा भवतं कृष्ट्योजसा । यद्वां हवन्त उभये अध स्पृधि नरस्तोकस्य तनयस्य सातिषु
O Indra and Varuṇa, in every battle be our leaders with your people's strength; if both sides call upon you, then decide, O men, in the contests for offspring and descendants.
अस्मे इन्द्रो वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा द्युम्नं यच्छन्तु महि शर्म सप्रथः । अवध्रं ज्योतिरदितेरृतावृधो देवस्य श्लोकं सवितुर्मनामहे
May Indra, Varuṇa, Mitra, and Aryaman grant us glory, great and wide protection; may we honor the undeceiving light of Aditi, the upholder of truth, and the praise of the god Savitar.
युवां नरा पश्यमानास आप्यं प्राचा गव्यन्तः पृथुपर्शवो ययुः । दासा च वृत्रा हतमार्याणि च सुदासमिन्द्रावरुणावसावतम्
You two, O men, seeing the ancient friendship, went forth to the east, seeking cattle, with broad armies; O Indra and Varuṇa, you aided Sudās with your help against the Dāsas and the Vṛtras, and the Aryas as well.
यत्रा नरः समयन्ते कृतध्वजो यस्मिन्नाजा भवति किं चन प्रियम् । यत्रा भयन्ते भुवना स्वर्दृशस्तत्रा न इन्द्रावरुणाधि वोचतम्
Where men gather, with banners raised, where nothing is dear in battle, where the shining ones are afraid, there, O Indra and Varuṇa, speak on our behalf.
सं भूम्या अन्ता ध्वसिरा अदृक्षतेन्द्रावरुणा दिवि घोष आरुहत् । अस्थुर्जनानामुप मामरातयोऽर्वागवसा हवनश्रुता गतम्
The ends of the earth, covered in darkness, you have seen, O Indra and Varuṇa; your sound has risen to the sky; let not our enemies stand firm, come near with your help, you who hear our call.
इन्द्रावरुणा वधनाभिरप्रति भेदं वन्वन्ता प्र सुदासमावतम् । ब्रह्माण्येषां शृणुतं हवीमनि सत्या तृत्सूनामभवत्पुरोहितिः
O Indra and Varuṇa, with your invincible weapons, breaking through, you protected Sudās; listen to the prayers of these priests, for true was the priesthood of the Tṛtsus.
इन्द्रावरुणावभ्या तपन्ति माघान्यर्यो वनुषामरातयः । युवं हि वस्व उभयस्य राजथोऽध स्मा नोऽवतं पार्ये दिवि
O Indra and Varuṇa, the hostile ones, the enemies, oppress the noble with their might; for you are the rulers of both kinds of wealth, so protect us in the highest heaven.
युवां हवन्त उभयास आजिष्विन्द्रं च वस्वो वरुणं च सातये । यत्र राजभिर्दशभिर्निबाधितं प्र सुदासमावतं तृत्सुभिः सह
Both of you are invoked in the battles, Indra and Varuṇa, for aid; where Sudās, surrounded by ten kings, you protected together with the Tṛtsus.
दश राजानः समिता अयज्यवः सुदासमिन्द्रावरुणा न युयुधुः । सत्या नृणामद्मसदामुपस्तुतिर्देवा एषामभवन्देवहूतिषु
Ten kings, assembled and not sacrificing, could not defeat Sudās, O Indra and Varuṇa; the true praise of men became their offering to the gods in their invocations.
दाशराज्ञे परियत्ताय विश्वतः सुदास इन्द्रावरुणावशिक्षतम् । श्वित्यञ्चो यत्र नमसा कपर्दिनो धिया धीवन्तो असपन्त तृत्सवः
For the son of Daśa, beset from all sides, you, Indra and Varuṇa, gave strength to Sudās; where the Tṛtsus, wise and devoted, with white-crested helmets, triumphed through reverence and thought.
वृत्राण्यन्यः समिथेषु जिघ्नते व्रतान्यन्यो अभि रक्षते सदा । हवामहे वां वृषणा सुवृक्तिभिरस्मे इन्द्रावरुणा शर्म यच्छतम्
One of you slays adversaries in the battles, the other always upholds the vows; we call upon you, mighty ones, with splendid praises, Indra and Varuṇa, grant us your protection.
