प्र मे पन्था देवयाना अदृश्रन्नमर्धन्तो वसुभिरिष्कृतासः । अभूदु केतुरुषसः पुरस्तात्प्रतीच्यागादधि हर्म्येभ्यः
The paths of the gods have appeared to me, unobstructed, adorned with riches; the sign of Dawn was seen ahead, coming from the west, entering the houses.
तानीदहानि बहुलान्यासन्या प्राचीनमुदिता सूर्यस्य । यतः परि जार इवाचरन्त्युषो ददृक्षे न पुनर्यतीव
Those many days have passed, rising in the east with the Sun; like a lover, Dawn moves around, she is seen but does not return again.
त इद्देवानां सधमाद आसन्नृतावानः कवयः पूर्व्यासः । गूळ्हं ज्योतिः पितरो अन्वविन्दन्सत्यमन्त्रा अजनयन्नुषासम्
Those ancient seers, truthful and wise, sat in the gods' assembly; the ancestors found the hidden light, uttering true words, they brought forth Dawn.
समान ऊर्वे अधि संगतासः सं जानते न यतन्ते मिथस्ते । ते देवानां न मिनन्ति व्रतान्यमर्धन्तो वसुभिर्यादमानाः
United in the same place, gathered together, they know together and do not strive against each other; they do not violate the gods' laws, unobstructed, seeking riches.
प्रति त्वा स्तोमैरीळते वसिष्ठा उषर्बुधः सुभगे तुष्टुवांसः । गवां नेत्री वाजपत्नी न उच्छोषः सुजाते प्रथमा जरस्व
Vasiṣṭhas praise you with hymns, O Dawn awakened, O fortunate one, singing your glory; leader of cows, wife of strength, rise, O Dawn, noble-born, first to grow old.
एषा नेत्री राधसः सूनृतानामुषा उच्छन्ती रिभ्यते वसिष्ठैः । दीर्घश्रुतं रयिमस्मे दधाना यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
This leader of wealth and good speech, Dawn rising, is praised by the Vasiṣṭhas; granting enduring fame and riches to us—may you always protect us with blessings.
उपो रुरुचे युवतिर्न योषा विश्वं जीवं प्रसुवन्ती चरायै । अभूदग्निः समिधे मानुषाणामकर्ज्योतिर्बाधमाना तमांसि
She has shone forth, youthful like a maiden, giving life to all that moves; Agni has appeared in the human assembly, kindling light and dispelling darkness.
विश्वं प्रतीची सप्रथा उदस्थाद्रुशद्वासो बिभ्रती शुक्रमश्वैत् । हिरण्यवर्णा सुदृशीकसंदृग्गवां माता नेत्र्यह्नामरोचि
The radiant Dawn has spread everywhere, wearing shining garments, bearing bright light; golden-hued, beautiful to behold, mother of cows, leader of days, she has shone.
देवानां चक्षुः सुभगा वहन्ती श्वेतं नयन्ती सुदृशीकमश्वम् । उषा अदर्शि रश्मिभिर्व्यक्ता चित्रामघा विश्वमनु प्रभूता
Bearer of the gods' vision, O fortunate one, leading the white, beautiful horse; Dawn has appeared, manifest in her rays, splendid and generous, spreading over all.
अन्तिवामा दूरे अमित्रमुच्छोर्वीं गव्यूतिमभयं कृधी नः । यावय द्वेष आ भरा वसूनि चोदय राधो गृणते मघोनि
Come near, O Dawn, from afar, drive away the enemy; make the wide pasture safe for us; remove hatred, bring us wealth, and inspire generosity in the giver.
अस्मे श्रेष्ठेभिर्भानुभिर्वि भाह्युषो देवि प्रतिरन्ती न आयुः । इषं च नो दधती विश्ववारे गोमदश्वावद्रथवच्च राधः
Shine forth upon us, O goddess Dawn, with your most splendid rays, like a woman prolonging life; bestow upon us, O all-bountiful one, wealth abounding in cattle, horses, and chariots.
यां त्वा दिवो दुहितर्वर्धयन्त्युषः सुजाते मतिभिर्वसिष्ठाः । सास्मासु धा रयिमृष्वं बृहन्तं यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
You whom, O well-born Dawn, the Vasiṣṭhas exalt with their hymns—may you grant us lofty and abundant riches; may you always protect us with blessings.
प्रति केतवः प्रथमा अदृश्रन्नूर्ध्वा अस्या अञ्जयो वि श्रयन्ते । उषो अर्वाचा बृहता रथेन ज्योतिष्मता वाममस्मभ्यं वक्षि
The first beams have appeared, her shining rays are spread upward; O Dawn, come near with your great, radiant chariot, bring us favor and light.
प्रति षीमग्निर्जरते समिद्धः प्रति विप्रासो मतिभिर्गृणन्तः । उषा याति ज्योतिषा बाधमाना विश्वा तमांसि दुरिताप देवी
Agni is kindled in response, the inspired ones praise with their hymns; goddess Dawn advances with her light, driving away all darkness and misfortune.
एता उ त्याः प्रत्यदृश्रन्पुरस्ताज्ज्योतिर्यच्छन्तीरुषसो विभातीः । अजीजनन्सूर्यं यज्ञमग्निमपाचीनं तमो अगादजुष्टम्
These Dawns, shining with light, have appeared before us, dispelling darkness; they have brought forth the Sun, the sacrifice, and Agni, and sent away the unwelcome gloom.
अचेति दिवो दुहिता मघोनी विश्वे पश्यन्त्युषसं विभातीम् । आस्थाद्रथं स्वधया युज्यमानमा यमश्वासः सुयुजो वहन्ति
The generous daughter of heaven is awake; all behold the shining Dawn; she has mounted her self-yoked chariot, drawn by well-harnessed horses.
प्रति त्वाद्य सुमनसो बुधन्तास्माकासो मघवानो वयं च । तिल्विलायध्वमुषसो विभातीर्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
Today, may we and the generous ones awaken with good thoughts for you, O Dawns; scatter the darkness, O shining ones, and always protect us with blessings.
व्युषा आवः पथ्या जनानां पञ्च क्षितीर्मानुषीर्बोधयन्ती । सुसंदृग्भिरुक्षभिर्भानुमश्रेद्वि सूर्यो रोदसी चक्षसावः
Dawn has opened the paths for people, awakening the five tribes of men; with well-seeing oxen she brings forth the light, and the Sun, with his vision, fills heaven and earth.
व्यञ्जते दिवो अन्तेष्वक्तून्विशो न युक्ता उषसो यतन्ते । सं ते गावस्तम आ वर्तयन्ति ज्योतिर्यच्छन्ति सवितेव बाहू
She reveals the seasons at the edges of the sky; like yoked women, the Dawns strive; your cows turn back the darkness, bringing light as Savitar stretches out his arms.
अभूदुषा इन्द्रतमा मघोन्यजीजनत्सुविताय श्रवांसि । वि दिवो देवी दुहिता दधात्यङ्गिरस्तमा सुकृते वसूनि
Dawn has become most Indra-like and bountiful, she has brought forth fame for good fortune; the divine daughter of heaven bestows riches upon the pious Angiras.
तावदुषो राधो अस्मभ्यं रास्व यावत्स्तोतृभ्यो अरदो गृणाना । यां त्वा जज्ञुर्वृषभस्या रवेण वि दृळ्हस्य दुरो अद्रेरौर्णोः
O Dawn, grant us as much wealth as you have given to your praisers; you whom they have brought forth with the roar of the bull, breaking open the strong doors of the cloud.
देवंदेवं राधसे चोदयन्त्यस्मद्र्यक्सूनृता ईरयन्ती । व्युच्छन्ती नः सनये धियो धा यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
Urging on the gods for gifts, she inspires us to truth; as you shine forth, grant us wisdom for prosperity; may you always protect us with blessings.
प्रति स्तोमेभिरुषसं वसिष्ठा गीर्भिर्विप्रासः प्रथमा अबुध्रन् । विवर्तयन्तीं रजसी समन्ते आविष्कृण्वतीं भुवनानि विश्वा
With hymns, the Vasiṣṭhas, the inspired ones, first awakened Dawn; she turns the two realms, revealing all the worlds.
एषा स्या नव्यमायुर्दधाना गूढ्वी तमो ज्योतिषोषा अबोधि । अग्र एति युवतिरह्रयाणा प्राचिकितत्सूर्यं यज्ञमग्निम्
She, bearing new life, has awakened from darkness to light; the youthful, unashamed maiden goes before, kindling the Sun, the sacrifice, and Agni.
अश्वावतीर्गोमतीर्न उषासो वीरवतीः सदमुच्छन्तु भद्राः । घृतं दुहाना विश्वतः प्रपीता यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
May Dawns rich in horses, cattle, and heroes always rise for us, bringing blessings; pouring forth ghee from every side—may you always protect us with blessings.
प्रत्यु अदर्श्यायत्युच्छन्ती दुहिता दिवः । अपो महि व्ययति चक्षसे तमो ज्योतिष्कृणोति सूनरी
She has appeared, the coming Dawn, daughter of heaven, shining forth; she drives away the great darkness for vision, making light, O radiant one.
उदुस्रियाः सृजते सूर्यः सचाँ उद्यन्नक्षत्रमर्चिवत् । तवेदुषो व्युषि सूर्यस्य च सं भक्तेन गमेमहि
The Sun rises together with his rays, the star ascends shining; at your dawning, O Dawn, and at the Sun's, may we go forth with our share.
प्रति त्वा दुहितर्दिव उषो जीरा अभुत्स्महि । या वहसि पुरु स्पार्हं वनन्वति रत्नं न दाशुषे मयः
To you, aged daughter of heaven, O Dawn, we have come; you bear much-desired, wondrous treasure for the worshipper.
उच्छन्ती या कृणोषि मंहना महि प्रख्यै देवि स्वर्दृशे । तस्यास्ते रत्नभाज ईमहे वयं स्याम मातुर्न सूनवः
O goddess, you who shine forth, performing great and renowned deeds, visible to all, to you who bestows treasures, we seek, that we may be like sons to a mother.
तच्चित्रं राध आ भरोषो यद्दीर्घश्रुत्तमम् । यत्ते दिवो दुहितर्मर्तभोजनं तद्रास्व भुनजामहै
Bring to us that wondrous gift, O daughter of heaven, that most renowned and far-heard bounty; grant us that which is fit for mortals, that we may enjoy it.
