अतारिष्म तमसस्पारमस्य प्रति स्तोमं देवयन्तो दधानाः । पुरुदंसा पुरुतमा पुराजामर्त्या हवते अश्विना गीः
We have crossed beyond the darkness, placing our praise before you, O gods. The Ashvins, givers of much, most generous, ancient, immortal, are called by the hymn.
न्यु प्रियो मनुषः सादि होता नासत्या यो यजते वन्दते च । अश्नीतं मध्वो अश्विना उपाक आ वां वोचे विदथेषु प्रयस्वान्
The beloved priest sits among men, O Nasatyas, who worships and honors you. Ashvins, eat the honey, come near; I speak to you, eager in the assemblies.
अहेम यज्ञं पथामुराणा इमां सुवृक्तिं वृषणा जुषेथाम् । श्रुष्टीवेव प्रेषितो वामबोधि प्रति स्तोमैर्जरमाणो वसिष्ठः
We have approached the sacrifice, seeking the paths; may you two mighty ones accept this hymn. Vasiṣṭha, sent to you, has awakened, growing old with praises.
उप त्या वह्नी गमतो विशं नो रक्षोहणा सम्भृता वीळुपाणी । समन्धांस्यग्मत मत्सराणि मा नो मर्धिष्टमा गतं शिवेन
Come to us, O destroyers of evil, gather the people, O Ashvins, with flaming hands. Remove our blindness, come to us with favor; do not harm us, come with peace.
आ पश्चातान्नासत्या पुरस्तादाश्विना यातमधरादुदक्तात् । आ विश्वतः पाञ्चजन्येन राया यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
Come from behind, O Nasatyas, from before, O Ashvins, from below and from above. From every direction, with the wealth of the five peoples, always protect us with blessings.
इमा उ वां दिविष्टय उस्रा हवन्ते अश्विना । अयं वामह्वेऽवसे शचीवसू विशंविशं हि गच्छथः
These dawns, O Ashvins, call to you in heaven. I call you for help, O powerful ones; you go from people to people.
युवं चित्रं ददथुर्भोजनं नरा चोदेथां सूनृतावते । अर्वाग्रथं समनसा नि यच्छतं पिबतं सोम्यं मधु
You, O men, give splendid food and stir those who speak kindly. Bring your chariot near with united mind, drink the sweet soma.
आ यातमुप भूषतं मध्वः पिबतमश्विना । दुग्धं पयो वृषणा जेन्यावसू मा नो मर्धिष्टमा गतम्
Come, adorn yourselves, drink the honey, O Ashvins. The milk, the nourishing drink, O mighty ones, do not harm us, come.
अश्वासो ये वामुप दाशुषो गृहं युवां दीयन्ति बिभ्रतः । मक्षूयुभिर्नरा हयेभिरश्विना देवा यातमस्मयू
The horses that belong to you, O Ashvins, bring you to the house of the worshiper, carrying you. Quickly, O men, with swift steeds, O divine Ashvins, come to us.
अधा ह यन्तो अश्विना पृक्षः सचन्त सूरयः । ता यंसतो मघवद्भ्यो ध्रुवं यशश्छर्दिरस्मभ्यं नासत्या
Thus, coming, O Ashvins, the wise ones join you. You grant firm glory and protection to the generous, O Nasatyas, for us.
प्र ये ययुरवृकासो रथा इव नृपातारो जनानाम् । उत स्वेन शवसा शूशुवुर्नर उत क्षियन्ति सुक्षितिम्
Those who have gone forth, uninjured, like chariots, are leaders among men. By their own strength, O men, they shine forth, and they dwell in good fortune.
व्युषा आवो दिविजा ऋतेनाविष्कृण्वाना महिमानमागात् । अप द्रुहस्तम आवरजुष्टमङ्गिरस्तमा पथ्या अजीगः
The dawn has come, born in heaven, revealing its greatness with truth. It has driven away the most harmful, the most hostile, the most difficult, and has awakened the paths.
महे नो अद्य सुविताय बोध्युषो महे सौभगाय प्र यन्धि । चित्रं रयिं यशसं धेह्यस्मे देवि मर्तेषु मानुषि श्रवस्युम्
Today, awaken us for great well-being; grant us great fortune, O Dawn. Bestow upon us a splendid, renowned wealth, O goddess, one that brings fame among mortals.
एते त्ये भानवो दर्शतायाश्चित्रा उषसो अमृतास आगुः । जनयन्तो दैव्यानि व्रतान्यापृणन्तो अन्तरिक्षा व्यस्थुः
These radiant beams of the glorious, immortal Dawn have arrived, generating divine laws and filling the spaces of the sky.
एषा स्या युजाना पराकात्पञ्च क्षितीः परि सद्यो जिगाति । अभिपश्यन्ती वयुना जनानां दिवो दुहिता भुवनस्य पत्नी
This Dawn, yoked from afar, swiftly circles five regions; observing the ways of people, she, daughter of heaven and mistress of the world, surveys all.
वाजिनीवती सूर्यस्य योषा चित्रामघा राय ईशे वसूनाम् । ऋषिष्टुता जरयन्ती मघोन्युषा उच्छति वह्निभिर्गृणाना
Rich in horses, bride of the Sun, splendid and generous, she rules over treasures; praised by sages, invigorating and bountiful, Dawn rises with fires, celebrated in song.
प्रति द्युतानामरुषासो अश्वाश्चित्रा अदृश्रन्नुषसं वहन्तः । याति शुभ्रा विश्वपिशा रथेन दधाति रत्नं विधते जनाय
The bright, ruddy horses, bearing Dawn, have appeared, drawing her forth; she advances, shining, with her adorned chariot, bestowing riches upon the worshipper.
सत्या सत्येभिर्महती महद्भिर्देवी देवेभिर्यजता यजत्रैः । रुजद्दृळ्हानि दददुस्रियाणां प्रति गाव उषसं वावशन्त
True among the true, great among the great, the goddess, revered by the gods and worthy of worship, breaks the strongholds and gives light to the cows; the cattle have longed for Dawn.
नू नो गोमद्वीरवद्धेहि रत्नमुषो अश्वावत्पुरुभोजो अस्मे । मा नो बर्हिः पुरुषता निदे कर्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
Now grant us wealth with cattle and heroes, O Dawn, with horses and abundant gifts; let not our sacred grass be neglected by men; always protect us with blessings.
उदु ज्योतिरमृतं विश्वजन्यं विश्वानरः सविता देवो अश्रेत् । क्रत्वा देवानामजनिष्ट चक्षुराविरकर्भुवनं विश्वमुषाः
The immortal light, creator of all, has risen; the universal fire, Savitar, the god, shines. By his will, the gods' eye was born; Dawn revealed the entire world.
प्र मे पन्था देवयाना अदृश्रन्नमर्धन्तो वसुभिरिष्कृतासः । अभूदु केतुरुषसः पुरस्तात्प्रतीच्यागादधि हर्म्येभ्यः
The paths of the gods have appeared to me, unobstructed, adorned with riches; the sign of Dawn was seen ahead, coming from the west, entering the houses.
तानीदहानि बहुलान्यासन्या प्राचीनमुदिता सूर्यस्य । यतः परि जार इवाचरन्त्युषो ददृक्षे न पुनर्यतीव
Those many days have passed, rising in the east with the Sun; like a lover, Dawn moves around, she is seen but does not return again.
त इद्देवानां सधमाद आसन्नृतावानः कवयः पूर्व्यासः । गूळ्हं ज्योतिः पितरो अन्वविन्दन्सत्यमन्त्रा अजनयन्नुषासम्
Those ancient seers, truthful and wise, sat in the gods' assembly; the ancestors found the hidden light, uttering true words, they brought forth Dawn.
समान ऊर्वे अधि संगतासः सं जानते न यतन्ते मिथस्ते । ते देवानां न मिनन्ति व्रतान्यमर्धन्तो वसुभिर्यादमानाः
United in the same place, gathered together, they know together and do not strive against each other; they do not violate the gods' laws, unobstructed, seeking riches.
प्रति त्वा स्तोमैरीळते वसिष्ठा उषर्बुधः सुभगे तुष्टुवांसः । गवां नेत्री वाजपत्नी न उच्छोषः सुजाते प्रथमा जरस्व
Vasiṣṭhas praise you with hymns, O Dawn awakened, O fortunate one, singing your glory; leader of cows, wife of strength, rise, O Dawn, noble-born, first to grow old.
एषा नेत्री राधसः सूनृतानामुषा उच्छन्ती रिभ्यते वसिष्ठैः । दीर्घश्रुतं रयिमस्मे दधाना यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
This leader of wealth and good speech, Dawn rising, is praised by the Vasiṣṭhas; granting enduring fame and riches to us—may you always protect us with blessings.
उपो रुरुचे युवतिर्न योषा विश्वं जीवं प्रसुवन्ती चरायै । अभूदग्निः समिधे मानुषाणामकर्ज्योतिर्बाधमाना तमांसि
She has shone forth, youthful like a maiden, giving life to all that moves; Agni has appeared in the human assembly, kindling light and dispelling darkness.
विश्वं प्रतीची सप्रथा उदस्थाद्रुशद्वासो बिभ्रती शुक्रमश्वैत् । हिरण्यवर्णा सुदृशीकसंदृग्गवां माता नेत्र्यह्नामरोचि
The radiant Dawn has spread everywhere, wearing shining garments, bearing bright light; golden-hued, beautiful to behold, mother of cows, leader of days, she has shone.
देवानां चक्षुः सुभगा वहन्ती श्वेतं नयन्ती सुदृशीकमश्वम् । उषा अदर्शि रश्मिभिर्व्यक्ता चित्रामघा विश्वमनु प्रभूता
Bearer of the gods' vision, O fortunate one, leading the white, beautiful horse; Dawn has appeared, manifest in her rays, splendid and generous, spreading over all.
अन्तिवामा दूरे अमित्रमुच्छोर्वीं गव्यूतिमभयं कृधी नः । यावय द्वेष आ भरा वसूनि चोदय राधो गृणते मघोनि
Come near, O Dawn, from afar, drive away the enemy; make the wide pasture safe for us; remove hatred, bring us wealth, and inspire generosity in the giver.
