From you, O Maruts, the sage is hundredfold; from you, the strong is thousandfold. From you, the king slays the foe. May your impulses be most powerful for that.
I call upon those merciful ones of Rudra—may the Maruts return to us again. Whatever they have withheld or revealed, by that we seek the favor of the mighty.
May this well-praised hymn, this song, be pleasing to the generous Maruts. Drive away hatred from afar, O mighty ones. May you always protect us with well-being.
Whomever you gods protect, whomever you lead—O Agni, Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman, Maruts—grant him your shelter.
With your help, O gods, the worshipper overcomes his foes in battle. He crosses over to prosperity, to great riches, who serves you for favor.
Not even for a moment does Vasiṣṭha neglect you. Today, O Maruts, join us at the pressing of the Soma; all you desirous ones, drink.
No protection fails in battle for those men who have sought your favor; your ever-renewing goodwill turns towards you, O eager ones.
Come now, O givers of strength, dispel the darkness for drinking; accept these offerings, O Maruts, do not go elsewhere.
Come, sit upon our sacred grass, and as benefactors, grant us splendid wealth; unwavering Maruts, rejoice here in the sweet Soma, in the sacrifice.
Even those who are adorned, shining in their forms, like blue-backed swans, have flown forth; let your whole host not sit apart from me, O men, delighting in the pressing of the Soma.
Whoever, O Maruts, with hostile intent seeks to harm us, O Vasus, or wishes to strike us from the side—release us from the snares of deceit; with your most blazing weapon, strike down that one.
O Maruts, accept this offering of those who are heated with zeal; may your protection, O destroyers of foes, be with us.
Come, O Maruts, to the householder's rite, do not be absent; may your protection, O generous ones, be with us.
Here, O possessors of true strength, wise ones, radiant as the sun, I choose you, Maruts, for the sacrifice.
We worship Tryambaka, the fragrant one, the increaser of prosperity; may I be released from death as a cucumber from its stem, but not from immortality.
Whatever I speak today, O Sun, as you rise, let it be true for Mitra and Varuna; may we, O Aditi, be your beloved ones among the gods, singing your praise, O Aryaman.
This Sun, O Mitra and Varuna, rises with the vision of men, traversing both paths; he is the guardian of all that stands and moves, seeing both the straight and the crooked among mortals.
Seven bay steeds, yoked to the place of assembly, carry the Sun, shining with clarified butter; O Mitra and Varuna, you have established the abodes, and he, like a leader, beholds the generations.
The bright, honeyed rays have arisen, and the Sun has mounted the shining sky; for whom, O Adityas, the paths are cleared—Mitra, Aryaman, and Varuna together.
These are the watchers against falsehood—Mitra, Aryaman, and Varuna indeed; these, steadfast in truth, have grown in their dwelling, the mighty, unfailing sons of Aditi.
These, Mitra and Varuna, with far-reaching vision, make even the unwise attentive by their wisdom; even guiding the wise with their counsel, they lead us safely past all distress.
These, ever-watchful from heaven and earth, wise, lead the unmindful; even when the rivers are wide, there is a ford—may they carry us across this vast expanse.
Whatever good protection Aditi grants as guardian, whatever Mitra and Varuna bestow upon Sudas—placing our offspring and descendants therein, may we not perform any act offensive to the gods, O swift ones.
Let him, supported by the priests, offer the oblation, whoever is restrained by Varuna; let Aryaman ward off enmities, and the mighty ones grant Sudas a wide domain.
Even when memory falters, these mighty ones endure with sudden strength; out of fear of you, O powerful ones, they stir, and by the greatness of skill, be merciful to us.
He who brings forth noble thought for the priest, who strives for the highest prize of wealth, the generous ones, Maghavans, have restrained anger for Arya, and have established broad dwelling with good foundation.
This divine priest has been appointed for you two, O Mitra and Varuna, in sacrifices; protect us from all hardships, remove them from us, and always guard us with blessings.
The Sun, with beautiful form, rises as the eye of Varuna and the gods; he stretches out, observing all worlds, and he perceives the intention among mortals.
To you, Mitra and Varuna, the inspired priest raises his long-heard hymns; you support his prayers with wise action, and by your deeds, you fill the years for him.
From the earth, O Mitra and Varuna, from the lofty, great heaven, you generous ones, you have placed your spies among plants and peoples, ever vigilant, protecting without blinking.
