यासु राजा वरुणो यासु सोमो विश्वे देवा यासूर्जं मदन्ति । वैश्वानरो यास्वग्निः प्रविष्टस्ता आपो देवीरिह मामवन्तु
In whom Varuṇa is king, in whom Soma, in whom all the gods delight in strength; in whom Agni Vaiśvānara has entered—may these divine waters here protect me.
आ मां मित्रावरुणेह रक्षतं कुलाययद्विश्वयन्मा न आ गन् । अजकावं दुर्दृशीकं तिरो दधे मा मां पद्येन रपसा विदत्त्सरुः
Here, O Mitra and Varuṇa, protect me; let not the clan, the people, or anyone harm me. I have placed the difficult, the unseen, far away; let not the serpent seize me with harm through my foot.
यद्विजामन्परुषि वन्दनं भुवदष्ठीवन्तौ परि कुल्फौ च देहत् । अग्निष्टच्छोचन्नप बाधतामितो मा मां पद्येन रपसा विदत्त्सरुः
If there is a bone or a stone or a thorn, or if anything sharp is near my ankle, O Agni, shining one, drive it away from here; let not the serpent seize me with harm through my foot.
यच्छल्मलौ भवति यन्नदीषु यदोषधीभ्यः परि जायते विषम् । विश्वे देवा निरितस्तत्सुवन्तु मा मां पद्येन रपसा विदत्त्सरुः
Whatever is slippery, whatever is in the rivers, whatever poison arises from the plants—may all the gods and Niriti remove it; let not the serpent seize me with harm through my foot.
याः प्रवतो निवत उद्वत उदन्वतीरनुदकाश्च याः । ता अस्मभ्यं पयसा पिन्वमानाः शिवा देवीरशिपदा भवन्तु सर्वा नद्यो अशिमिदा भवन्तु
The flowing, the still, the rising, the deep, and the waterless rivers—may all these, swelling with their waters, be auspicious, divine, and harmless for us; may all the rivers be free from harm for us.
आदित्यानामवसा नूतनेन सक्षीमहि शर्मणा शंतमेन । अनागास्त्वे अदितित्वे तुरास इमं यज्ञं दधतु श्रोषमाणाः
By the new favor of the Ādityas, may we partake of their shelter, full of peace. In guiltlessness, in the freedom of Aditi, may the mighty ones, hearing, accept this offering.
आदित्यासो अदितिर्मादयन्तां मित्रो अर्यमा वरुणो रजिष्ठाः । अस्माकं सन्तु भुवनस्य गोपाः पिबन्तु सोममवसे नो अद्य
May the Ādityas, may Aditi gladden us—Mitra, Aryaman, Varuṇa, the most powerful. May they be our guardians of the world; let them drink the Soma today for our help.
आदित्या विश्वे मरुतश्च विश्वे देवाश्च विश्व ऋभवश्च विश्वे । इन्द्रो अग्निरश्विना तुष्टुवाना यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
All the Ādityas, all the Maruts, all the gods, all the Rbhus, Indra, Agni, and the Aśvins—may you all, praised, always protect us with blessings.
आदित्यासो अदितयः स्याम पूर्देवत्रा वसवो मर्त्यत्रा । सनेम मित्रावरुणा सनन्तो भवेम द्यावापृथिवी भवन्तः
May we be under the protection of the Ādityas, of Aditi, O Vasus, both in the world of the gods and among mortals. May we be victorious, O Mitra and Varuṇa; may we prosper, O Heaven and Earth, as you prosper.
मित्रस्तन्नो वरुणो मामहन्त शर्म तोकाय तनयाय गोपाः । मा वो भुजेमान्यजातमेनो मा तत्कर्म वसवो यच्चयध्वे
May Mitra, may Varuṇa not harm us; may the guardians grant shelter for our offspring and descendants. May we not suffer for any ancestral sin; may we not commit, O Vasus, what you dislike.
तुरण्यवोऽङ्गिरसो नक्षन्त रत्नं देवस्य सवितुरियानाः । पिता च तन्नो महान्यजत्रो विश्वे देवाः समनसो जुषन्त
The swift-moving Angirases have found the treasure, coming to the gift of the god Savitar. May our great father, the mighty, the worshipful, and all the gods together accept this.
प्र द्यावा यज्ञैः पृथिवी नमोभिः सबाध ईळे बृहती यजत्रे । ते चिद्धि पूर्वे कवयो गृणन्तः पुरो मही दधिरे देवपुत्रे
I praise Heaven and Earth with sacrifices, with reverence, with songs, O mighty, worthy of worship. Even the ancient sages, praising, have placed these two great divine children in the forefront.
प्र पूर्वजे पितरा नव्यसीभिर्गीर्भिः कृणुध्वं सदने ऋतस्य । आ नो द्यावापृथिवी दैव्येन जनेन यातं महि वां वरूथम्
With ever-new hymns, offer praise to the ancient Father and Mother at the seat of truth; O Heaven and Earth, come to us with your divine assembly, your great protection.
उतो हि वां रत्नधेयानि सन्ति पुरूणि द्यावापृथिवी सुदासे । अस्मे धत्तं यदसदस्कृधोयु यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
For you, Heaven and Earth, possess many treasures for Sudas; grant us what is good and lasting. May you always protect us with well-being.
वास्तोष्पते प्रति जानीह्यस्मान्स्वावेशो अनमीवो भवा नः । यत्त्वेमहे प्रति तन्नो जुषस्व शं नो भव द्विपदे शं चतुष्पदे
O Lord of the House, recognize us; be gracious and free from harm for us. Accept what we offer you; bring us welfare for bipeds and quadrupeds alike.
वास्तोष्पते प्रतरणो न एधि गयस्फानो गोभिरश्वेभिरिन्दो । अजरासस्ते सख्ये स्याम पितेव पुत्रान्प्रति नो जुषस्व
O Lord of the House, be as a crossing for us, expanding our life with cattle and horses, O Indu. May we be unfailing in your friendship; accept us as a father does his sons.
वास्तोष्पते शग्मया संसदा ते सक्षीमहि रण्वया गातुमत्या । पाहि क्षेम उत योगे वरं नो यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः
O Lord of the House, may we attain your assembly, full of happiness and song. Guard us in safety and in need; may you always protect us with well-being.
अमीवहा वास्तोष्पते विश्वा रूपाण्याविशन् । सखा सुशेव एधि नः
O Lord of the House, destroyer of disease, you have entered all forms; be our friend, bring us good fortune.
यदर्जुन सारमेय दतः पिशङ्ग यच्छसे । वीव भ्राजन्त ऋष्टय उप स्रक्वेषु बप्सतो नि षु स्वप
Whatever you give, Arjuna Sārameya, and whatever you, Piśaṅga, grant—let the shining spears rest among the garlands, let them sleep.
स्तेनं राय सारमेय तस्करं वा पुनःसर । स्तोतॄनिन्द्रस्य रायसि किमस्मान्दुच्छुनायसे नि षु स्वप
Drive away the thief of wealth, Sārameya, or the robber; you guard the worshippers of Indra’s wealth. Why do you bark at us? Let them sleep.
त्वं सूकरस्य दर्दृहि तव दर्दर्तु सूकरः । स्तोतॄनिन्द्रस्य रायसि किमस्मान्दुच्छुनायसे नि षु स्वप
You, strike the boar, and let the boar strike you; you guard the worshippers of Indra’s wealth. Why do you bark at us? Let them sleep.
सस्तु माता सस्तु पिता सस्तु श्वा सस्तु विश्पतिः । ससन्तु सर्वे ज्ञातयः सस्त्वयमभितो जनः
Let the mother be at peace, let the father be at peace, let the dog be at peace, let the lord of the house be at peace; let all the kin be at peace, let all the people around be at peace.
य आस्ते यश्च चरति यश्च पश्यति नो जनः । तेषां सं हन्मो अक्षाणि यथेदं हर्म्यं तथा
Whoever sits, whoever moves, whoever looks upon us—of all these people, we bind their eyes, just as this house is bound.
सहस्रशृङ्गो वृषभो यः समुद्रादुदाचरत् । तेना सहस्येना वयं नि जनान्स्वापयामसि
The thousand-horned bull who rose from the ocean—with that mighty one, we lull all people to sleep.
प्रोष्ठेशया वह्येशया नारीर्यास्तल्पशीवरीः । स्त्रियो याः पुण्यगन्धास्ताः सर्वाः स्वापयामसि
Those women who lie on the back, those who lie on the side, those who are on soft beds, those women with pleasant fragrance—we lull them all to sleep.
क ईं व्यक्ता नरः सनीळा रुद्रस्य मर्या अध स्वश्वाः
Who has clearly known them—these men, close companions of Rudra, noble, with their own horses?
नकिर्ह्येषां जनूंषि वेद ते अङ्ग विद्रे मिथो जनित्रम्
No one knows their generations; indeed, their origin is hidden from each other.
अभि स्वपूभिर्मिथो वपन्त वातस्वनसः श्येना अस्पृध्रन्
With their own forms, they mutually shine forth, resounding like the wind; the eagles have not touched them.
एतानि धीरो निण्या चिकेत पृश्निर्यदूधो मही जभार
The wise one has perceived these secrets, when the spotted cow bore the mighty one.
सा विट् सुवीरा मरुद्भिरस्तु सनात्सहन्ती पुष्यन्ती नृम्णम्
May she, strong and heroic with the Maruts, ever victorious, nourishing strength, be ours.
