Now, heaven and earth, praised by the Vasiṣṭhas, may Varuṇa, Mitra, and Agni, upholders of truth, grant us a shining, supreme hymn. May you always protect us with well-being.
O hearing, may understanding come together at the sacred rite; let us set forth the praise of the mighty ones. Whatever the god Savitar bestows today, may we share in his portion of treasures.
May Mitra, Varuṇa, and the two worlds grant us a share of heaven; may Indra and Aryaman give; may the goddess Aditi bestow favor, and may Vāyu and Bhaga grant what they have prepared.
May that mighty one, the Maruts, be strong for us, he who helps the mortal whom you protect, O fleet-footed ones. Even Agni and Sarasvatī aid him; no one surpasses him in wealth.
For this one is the leader, O Varuṇa, of truth—Mitra, Aryaman, and the kings uphold it. The goddess Aditi, easy to invoke and unerring, may she lead us safely past all distress.
Of this generous god, of Viṣṇu, the mighty, may we partake with offerings at the distribution. May Rudra reveal his Rudra-like greatness, and may the two Aśvins guide us on a prosperous path.
O Pūṣan, O radiant one, may the mother, the protecting goddess, and the givers of gifts grant us; may the kindly horses guard us, may the encircling wind bring us rain.
Now, heaven and earth, praised by the Vasiṣṭhas, may Varuṇa, Mitra, and Agni, upholders of truth, grant us a shining, supreme hymn. May you always protect us with well-being.
At dawn we call Agni, at dawn we call Indra; at dawn, Mitra and Varuna, at dawn, the Ashvins. At dawn we invoke Bhaga, Pushan, and Brahmanaspati; at dawn we would call Soma and Rudra as well.
At dawn we invoke Bhaga, the mighty, the victorious, the son of Aditi, who is the distributor. Even the one who thinks himself deprived, the swift, even the king, says, 'May Bhaga grant me a share.'
O Bhaga, guide us; O Bhaga, true bestower, raise up this thought of ours and grant us gifts. O Bhaga, generate for us cattle and horses; O Bhaga, may we be men among men.
May we now be endowed with Bhaga; both at the beginning and in the midst of the days. When the sun rises, O generous one, may we be in the favor of the gods.
May Bhaga alone be the bestower, may the gods make us endowed with Bhaga. To you, O Bhaga, all call; be our leader, O Bhaga, here.
The dawns, bearers of sacrifice, bow down, like Dadhikravan for his shining path. May they bring to us Bhaga, the giver of wealth, near, as swift horses draw a chariot.
May the dawns, rich in horses, rich in cattle, rich in heroes, always rise auspicious for us. Milking ghee from every side, may you always protect us with well-being.
Let the Angirases, the singers, set forth their chants; let the resounding one reach the sky. Let the cows, with full udders, stream forth; let the pressing stones be yoked for the beauty of the sacrifice.
O Agni, of good guidance, be our leader on the path; yoke the tawny and the red steeds at the pressing. Those who are in the seat, the ruddy, the bearers of heroes, I call the births of the gods, seated.
Together, with praises, magnify the sacrifice for you; let the gracious Hotar shine forth at the approach. Worship, O you of many forms, the worthy gods; gain the favor of the immortal mind.
When the wealthy hero, the guest, is welcomed in the house with kindness, Agni, well-pleased, well-kindled in the home, bestows desirable wealth upon the family.
Accept this sacrifice of ours, O Agni; with the Maruts and Indra, make us renowned. May Night and Dawn sit on the sacred grass; may Mitra and Varuna, invited, come here.
Thus Vasistha, desiring wealth, praises Agni the mighty, the all-encompassing. He has spread forth food, wealth, and strength for us; may you always protect us with well-being.
Let those devoted to the gods sing to you at the sacrifices, Heaven and Earth, with reverence, for sustenance. Whose prayers, O wise ones, are unmatched, spreading everywhere like branches of trees.
Let the sacrifice proceed, like a chariot with a yoke; rise up, united in mind, with clarified butter. Spread the sacred grass for the proper rite; let the divine flames stand upright.
As sons, bearing gifts, approach their mother, so let the gods sit on the sacred grass. Let all-knowing Agni guide our rites; O gods, do not let enmity come near us.
May those streams of truth, ever-yielding, flow willingly for you, O worshipful ones. Today, come to the greatest of treasures; come together, united in mind, and strive.
So, O Agni, be gracious to our people; with you, O mighty one, may we not be defeated. With wealth as our companion, in harmonious assembly, unharmed—may you always protect us with well-being.
I call upon Dadhikrā, upon the Ashvins, upon Ushas, upon Agni kindled, upon Bhaga for favor; upon Indra, Vishnu, Pūshan, Brahmanaspati, the Ādityas, Heaven and Earth, the Waters, and the realm of light.
Awakening Dadhikrā with reverence, advancing toward the sacrifice, seating the goddess Ilā upon the sacred grass, we invoke the Ashvins, wise and readily called.
Recognizing Dadhikrā, I address Agni, Ushas, Sūrya, and the cow; the white one, the brown one, the four of Varuṇa—may they drive away all misfortunes from us.
Dadhikrā, the foremost, the prize-winning steed, is first among chariots, knowing; united with Ushas, Sūrya, the Ādityas, the Vasus, and the Angiras.
