अभूदु भा उ अंशवे हिरण्यं प्रति सूर्यः । व्यख्यज्जिह्वयासितः
There was light for the portion, gold in front of the sun; the black one revealed it with his tongue.
अभूदु पारमेतवे पन्था ऋतस्य साधुया । अदर्शि वि स्रुतिर्दिवः
There was a path to cross over, a good way of truth; the stream of heaven was seen flowing.
तत्तदिदश्विनोरवो जरिता प्रति भूषति । मदे सोमस्य पिप्रतोः
This and that help of the Ashvins the singer celebrates; in the exhilaration of the Soma, rejoicing.
वावसाना विवस्वति सोमस्य पीत्या गिरा । मनुष्वच्छम्भू आ गतम्
Clothed in brightness at the coming of dawn, with the drinking of Soma and song; come, O beneficent ones, to the men.
युवोरुषा अनु श्रियं परिज्मनोरुपाचरत् । ऋता वनथो अक्तुभिः
You two, following the glory of the wide-moving dawn, have approached; you have won the truths with the nights.
उभा पिबतमश्विनोभा नः शर्म यच्छतम् । अविद्रियाभिरूतिभिः
Both of you, Ashvins, drink; both grant us protection, with unfailing aids.
अयं वां मधुमत्तमः सुतः सोम ऋतावृधा । तमश्विना पिबतं तिरोअह्न्यं धत्तं रत्नानि दाशुषे
This Soma, most sweet for you, pressed and grown with truth, O Ashvins, drink it beyond the day; bestow treasures upon the worshipper.
त्रिवन्धुरेण त्रिवृता सुपेशसा रथेना यातमश्विना । कण्वासो वां ब्रह्म कृण्वन्त्यध्वरे तेषां सु शृणुतं हवम्
With your triple-yoked, triple-bodied, well-adorned chariot, come, O Ashvins; the Kanvas make hymns for you at the sacrifice, listen well to their call.
अश्विना मधुमत्तमं पातं सोममृतावृधा । अथाद्य दस्रा वसु बिभ्रता रथे दाश्वांसमुप गच्छतम्
O Aśvins, drink the most honeyed Soma, you who grow strong with truth; now today, O wondrous ones, bring riches on your chariot and come to the one who offers.
त्रिषधस्थे बर्हिषि विश्ववेदसा मध्वा यज्ञं मिमिक्षतम् । कण्वासो वां सुतसोमा अभिद्यवो युवां हवन्ते अश्विना
You who know all, seated on the threefold sacred grass, come to taste the sweetness of the sacrifice; the Kanvas, having pressed Soma, call upon you, O Aśvins, with their prayers.
याभिः कण्वमभिष्टिभिः प्रावतं युवमश्विना । ताभिः ष्वस्माँ अवतं शुभस्पती पातं सोममृतावृधा
With those aids by which you protected Kanva, O Aśvins, protect us now, O lords of beauty; drink the Soma, you who grow strong with truth.
सुदासे दस्रा वसु बिभ्रता रथे पृक्षो वहतमश्विना । रयिं समुद्रादुत वा दिवस्पर्यस्मे धत्तं पुरुस्पृहम्
For Sudās, O wondrous ones, bring riches on your chariot, let your horses carry you, O Aśvins; grant us wealth from the ocean or from the sky, bestowing much to be desired.
यन्नासत्या परावति यद्वा स्थो अधि तुर्वशे । अतो रथेन सुवृता न आ गतं साकं सूर्यस्य रश्मिभिः
Wherever you are, O Nāsatyas, whether far away or with Turvaśa, from there come to us with your well-yoked chariot, together with the rays of the sun.
अर्वाञ्चा वां सप्तयोऽध्वरश्रियो वहन्तु सवनेदुप । इषं पृञ्चन्ता सुकृते सुदानव आ बर्हिः सीदतं नरा
Let your swift horses, adorned for the sacrifice, bring you here to the pressing of Soma; granting nourishment to the doer of good, O generous ones, sit upon the sacred grass, O men.
तेन नासत्या गतं रथेन सूर्यत्वचा । येन शश्वदूहथुर्दाशुषे वसु मध्वः सोमस्य पीतये
With that sun-bright chariot, O Nāsatyas, come here, by which you always brought riches to the worshipper, to drink the honeyed Soma.
उक्थेभिरर्वागवसे पुरूवसू अर्कैश्च नि ह्वयामहे । शश्वत्कण्वानां सदसि प्रिये हि कं सोमं पपथुरश्विना
With hymns and songs we call you near for help, O you of many treasures; for in the beloved assembly of the Kanvas, O Aśvins, you have always drunk Soma.
सह वामेन न उषो व्युच्छा दुहितर्दिवः । सह द्युम्नेन बृहता विभावरि राया देवि दास्वती
With your power, O Dawn, shine forth, daughter of heaven; with great brilliance and wealth, O goddess, bring gifts as you reveal the light.
अश्वावतीर्गोमतीर्विश्वसुविदो भूरि च्यवन्त वस्तवे । उदीरय प्रति मा सूनृता उषश्चोद राधो मघोनाम्
With horses, with cattle, with all-knowing gifts, many treasures move for your worship; awaken us, grant us fair speech, O Dawn, and urge on the bounty of the generous.
उवासोषा उच्छाच्च नु देवी जीरा रथानाम् । ये अस्या आचरणेषु दध्रिरे समुद्रे न श्रवस्यवः
Dawn has risen, the goddess, ever young, leader of chariots; those who attend her journeys are steadfast, renowned like the ocean.
उषो ये ते प्र यामेषु युञ्जते मनो दानाय सूरयः । अत्राह तत्कण्व एषां कण्वतमो नाम गृणाति नृणाम्
Those lords who harness their minds to your journeys, O Dawn, for giving, are praised here; among them, Kanva, the most devoted of Kanvas, sings your name among men.
आ घा योषेव सूनर्युषा याति प्रभुञ्जती । जरयन्ती वृजनं पद्वदीयत उत्पातयति पक्षिणः
Like a young woman, O Dawn, you come forth, distributing gifts; making the people grow old, you move with your steps, you awaken the birds.
वि या सृजति समनं व्यर्थिनः पदं न वेत्योदती । वयो नकिष्टे पप्तिवांस आसते व्युष्टौ वाजिनीवति
She scatters the assembly, she opens the ways, shining like a path, she does not go astray; birds that would fly do not sit still at your dawning, O bringer of horses.
एषायुक्त परावतः सूर्यस्योदयनादधि । शतं रथेभिः सुभगोषा इयं वि यात्यभि मानुषान्
She is yoked far away, at the rising of the sun; with a hundred chariots, this fortunate Dawn moves forth, shining among men.
विश्वमस्या नानाम चक्षसे जगज्ज्योतिष्कृणोति सूनरी । अप द्वेषो मघोनी दुहिता दिव उषा उच्छदप स्रिधः
For all to see, she makes the world visible, the daughter of the sun brings light; O generous one, daughter of heaven, Dawn, drive away hatred and darkness.
उष आ भाहि भानुना चन्द्रेण दुहितर्दिवः । आवहन्ती भूर्यस्मभ्यं सौभगं व्युच्छन्ती दिविष्टिषु
Dawn, shine forth with your radiance, O lovely daughter of heaven; bringing abundant good fortune to us, revealing yourself among the dwellings.
विश्वस्य हि प्राणनं जीवनं त्वे वि यदुच्छसि सूनरि । सा नो रथेन बृहता विभावरि श्रुधि चित्रामघे हवम्
For you are the breath and life of all, O bringer of light, when you arise; so with your great chariot, O radiant Dawn, hear our splendid, generous invocation.
उषो वाजं हि वंस्व यश्चित्रो मानुषे जने । तेना वह सुकृतो अध्वराँ उप ये त्वा गृणन्ति वह्नयः
O Dawn, indeed bring us strength, for you are resplendent among humankind; with that, carry the offerings of the pious to the rituals, to those fires that praise you.
विश्वान्देवाँ आ वह सोमपीतयेऽन्तरिक्षादुषस्त्वम् । सास्मासु धा गोमदश्वावदुक्थ्यमुषो वाजं सुवीर्यम्
Bring all the gods here, O Dawn, for the drinking of Soma from the midspace; grant us, with that, wealth of cattle and horses, and worthy praise, O Dawn, strength and heroic power.
यस्या रुशन्तो अर्चयः प्रति भद्रा अदृक्षत । सा नो रयिं विश्ववारं सुपेशसमुषा ददातु सुग्म्यम्
She whose bright rays, shining, have appeared for our good—may that Dawn grant us all-encompassing, beautiful wealth, easy to attain.
ये चिद्धि त्वामृषयः पूर्व ऊतये जुहूरेऽवसे महि । सा न स्तोमाँ अभि गृणीहि राधसोषः शुक्रेण शोचिषा
Even those ancient sages invoked you, O Dawn, for help and great support; so now accept our praises, O Dawn, with your bright radiance, for generous gifts.
