नि त्वा नक्ष्य विश्पते द्युमन्तं देव धीमहि । सुवीरमग्न आहुत
We invoke you, lord of the people, radiant god, to be present; O Agni, summoned, grant us heroic strength.
क्षप उस्रश्च दीदिहि स्वग्नयस्त्वया वयम् । सुवीरस्त्वमस्मयुः
Shine forth through the nights and days, O Agni; through you, we become strong; you are the hero among us.
उप त्वा सातये नरो विप्रासो यन्ति धीतिभिः । उपाक्षरा सहस्रिणी
The men, the wise, approach you for help with their thoughts; the thousand-syllabled hymn draws near.
अग्नी रक्षांसि सेधति शुक्रशोचिरमर्त्यः । शुचिः पावक ईड्यः
Agni drives away the demons; immortal, with bright flame, pure, radiant, and worthy of praise.
स नो राधांस्या भरेशानः सहसो यहो । भगश्च दातु वार्यम्
May he, the lord of strength, bring us gifts; and may Bhaga grant us what is desirable.
त्वमग्ने वीरवद्यशो देवश्च सविता भगः । दितिश्च दाति वार्यम्
You, Agni, grant heroic fame; and the god Savitar, Bhaga, and Diti bestow what is desirable.
अग्ने रक्षा णो अंहसः प्रति ष्म देव रीषतः । तपिष्ठैरजरो दह
Agni, protect us from harm; oppose the godless who injure us; burn them with your fiercest, ageless flames.
अधा मही न आयस्यनाधृष्टो नृपीतये । पूर्भवा शतभुजिः
Then, mighty one, unconquered, you are our protector in battle; you are the ancient, hundred-handed.
त्वं नः पाह्यंहसो दोषावस्तरघायतः । दिवा नक्तमदाभ्य
Guard us from harm, Agni, in both dawn and dusk, swiftly; protect us day and night without fail.
एना वो अग्निं नमसोर्जो नपातमा हुवे । प्रियं चेतिष्ठमरतिं स्वध्वरं विश्वस्य दूतममृतम्
With this reverence, I call Agni, the son of strength, beloved, most energetic, the friend, the flawless, the immortal messenger of all.
स योजते अरुषा विश्वभोजसा स दुद्रवत्स्वाहुतः । सुब्रह्मा यज्ञः सुशमी वसूनां देवं राधो जनानाम्
He is yoked with the red ones, all-bountiful; he hastens, invoked by our call. The sacrifice is well-praised, the hymn is harmonious, O giver of riches to people, O god.
उदस्य शोचिरस्थादाजुह्वानस्य मीळ्हुषः । उद्धूमासो अरुषासो दिविस्पृशः समग्निमिन्धते नरः
His flame has risen, of the one who is offered, the gracious one; the red tongues of smoke, touching the sky, men kindle Agni together.
तं त्वा दूतं कृण्महे यशस्तमं देवाँ आ वीतये वह । विश्वा सूनो सहसो मर्तभोजना रास्व तद्यत्त्वेमहे
You we make our messenger, most glorious, O gods—bring us delight. O son of strength, grant all mortal enjoyments, that which we seek from you.
त्वमग्ने गृहपतिस्त्वं होता नो अध्वरे । त्वं पोता विश्ववार प्रचेता यक्षि वेषि च वार्यम्
You, Agni, are the lord of the house, you are our Hotar at the sacrifice; you are the carrier, all-choosing, wise—perform the worship and bestow the prize.
कृधि रत्नं यजमानाय सुक्रतो त्वं हि रत्नधा असि । आ न ऋते शिशीहि विश्वमृत्विजं सुशंसो यश्च दक्षते
Grant treasure to the worshipper, O good-minded one, for you are indeed the keeper of wealth. Without delay, inspire all the priests, O well-praised one, and whoever is skilled.
त्वे अग्ने स्वाहुत प्रियासः सन्तु सूरयः । यन्तारो ये मघवानो जनानामूर्वान्दयन्त गोनाम्
May those generous lords, O Agni, dear to you when rightly offered, be our friends—those benefactors who, bountiful, give wide pastures to people and cattle.
येषामिळा घृतहस्ता दुरोण आँ अपि प्राता निषीदति । ताँस्त्रायस्व सहस्य द्रुहो निदो यच्छा नः शर्म दीर्घश्रुत्
For whom the offering, with hands of ghee, is placed in the home—even at dawn they sit down. Protect them, O mighty one, from hostile harm; grant us long-famed shelter.
स मन्द्रया च जिह्वया वह्निरासा विदुष्टरः । अग्ने रयिं मघवद्भ्यो न आ वह हव्यदातिं च सूदय
With your delightful tongue, O radiant Agni, you are most wise. Bring wealth to the generous ones, and grant the offering to the worshipper.
ये राधांसि ददत्यश्व्या मघा कामेन श्रवसो महः । ताँ अंहसः पिपृहि पर्तृभिष्ट्वं शतं पूर्भिर्यविष्ठ्य
Those who give gifts of horses and wealth, desiring great fame—protect them from harm, O youngest one, with a hundred aids, together with your helpers.
देवो वो द्रविणोदाः पूर्णां विवष्ट्यासिचम् । उद्वा सिञ्चध्वमुप वा पृणध्वमादिद्वो देव ओहते
The god, the giver of riches, pours out for you a full stream. Pour out, fill up—thus the god attends you.
तं होतारमध्वरस्य प्रचेतसं वह्निं देवा अकृण्वत । दधाति रत्नं विधते सुवीर्यमग्निर्जनाय दाशुषे
As Hotar of the sacrifice, the wise, the radiant one, the gods have made Agni. He bestows treasure and heroic strength on the worshipper who serves the people.
अग्ने भव सुषमिधा समिद्ध उत बर्हिरुर्विया वि स्तृणीताम्
Agni, be well-kindled with perfect fuel; let the broad altar be spread wide.
उत द्वार उशतीर्वि श्रयन्तामुत देवाँ उशत आ वहेह
Let the shining doors be opened wide; let the gods, shining ones, come here together.
अग्ने वीहि हविषा यक्षि देवान्स्वध्वरा कृणुहि जातवेदः
Agni, come with the offering, worship the gods; O knower of all births, perform the flawless rite.
स्वध्वरा करति जातवेदा यक्षद्देवाँ अमृतान्पिप्रयच्च
The knower of all births performs the flawless rite; let him worship the immortal gods and gladden them.
वंस्व विश्वा वार्याणि प्रचेतः सत्या भवन्त्वाशिषो नो अद्य
Grant all desirable things, O wise one; may our wishes today be fulfilled in truth.
त्वामु ते दधिरे हव्यवाहं देवासो अग्न ऊर्ज आ नपातम्
You, Agni, the gods have established as the bearer of offerings, the child of strength, the lord of nourishment.
ते ते देवाय दाशतः स्याम महो नो रत्ना वि दध इयानः
May we, devoted to you, O god, be those who serve you; may you bestow upon us great treasures as you advance.
त्वे ह यत्पितरश्चिन्न इन्द्र विश्वा वामा जरितारो असन्वन् । त्वे गावः सुदुघास्त्वे ह्यश्वास्त्वं वसु देवयते वनिष्ठः
Indeed, O Indra, even the fathers, O singer, obtained all desirable things through you; through you, cows yield abundant milk, through you, horses, and you are the bestower of wealth to the worshipper.
राजेव हि जनिभिः क्षेष्येवाव द्युभिरभि विदुष्कविः सन् । पिशा गिरो मघवन्गोभिरश्वैस्त्वायतः शिशीहि राये अस्मान्
Like a king with his people, like a herdsman with his cattle, you, Maghavan, are renowned among the wise; delight in our songs, O Indra, grant us wealth with cows and horses.
