Let that clever Agni, even when young, be here, from wherever he, the youngest, was born of his mother; who, pure, quickly kindles many offerings, and at once consumes abundant food.
In the assembly of this god, whose seat mortals have taken, Agni has declared the human seed, and for the distant one, he has blazed forth for the seeker.
This wise one, among the wise, is established as immortal Agni among mortals; may we here always be of good mind to you, O mighty one, and not be harmed.
He has sat down in the womb made by the gods; by his power Agni has crossed over the immortals; the darkness, the plants, and the forest's offspring, and the earth, bearer of all, upholds him.
For Agni is lord of the immortal abundance, lord of wealth, of the giver of heroic strength; may we, O mighty one, not, lacking sons or vigor, ever turn away from you or your favor.
May we be lords of the ever-renewed, inexhaustible wealth of the forest, O Agni; there is no other birth for the unmindful—do not let us stray from your path.
For the fire of the forest is not easy to seize, nor is the kindly one to be grasped by another's belly or mind; yet, even so, he returns home again—may the new one, strong, come to us without harm.
You, Agni, protect us from the hostile; you, O mighty one, from reproach; let the path come together for you as for the smoke, let wealth, desirable and abundant, come together for you.
O Agni, shine forth these blessings for us; may we attain wise and mindful resolve. Let all gifts be for those who praise and sing; may you always protect us with well-being.
Offer your voice to Agni, the powerful, for the help of heaven and earth. Vaiśvānara, who has grown strong among the immortals, is awake with the vigilant.
Agni is established in heaven, the guide on earth, the bull among rivers and the strong among hosts. Vaiśvānara shines forth among human clans, growing through excellence.
Out of fear of you, the clans come, abandoning their food, united and leaving behind their meals. Vaiśvānara, shining for Pūru, when you, O Agni, destroy the fortresses, you are praised.
The earth and the sky, in their threefold forms, follow your law, Vaiśvānara, O Agni. With your radiance, you stretch across the two worlds, shining with unceasing flame.
To you, O Agni, the golden-hued hymns come together, the churnings with clarified butter. You are the lord of peoples, the charioteer of riches, Vaiśvānara, the beacon of dawns and mighty deeds.
In you, the Vasus have placed lordship; they have accepted your wise counsel, O friend of Mitra. You, O Agni, drive away the Dasyus and darkness, creating wide light for the Arya.
Born in the highest heaven, you swiftly guard the paths like a wind. You, Jātavedas, generate worlds and bring prosperity for offspring, granting favor.
O Agni, Vaiśvānara, Jātavedas, grant us that radiant, desirable wealth. With it, you nourish the generous, bestowing broad fame upon the worshipful mortal.
O Agni, grant us abundant, renowned wealth for the generous, bring us strength and glory. Vaiśvānara, bestow great protection upon us, together with the Rudras and Vasus.
I praise the glory of the lordly Asura, the leader of peoples, the wise one. Like Indra, I honor the deeds of strength; as one who praises, I speak of the sacred wood.
I invoke the sage, the beacon, the radiant one, the carrier of light from the mountain. The two worlds grant royal favor; with songs I call upon the ancient, great vows of Agni, the destroyer of fortresses.
He has driven away those of weak resolve, the boastful, those with harsh speech, the faithless, the unprosperous, the non-sacrificers. Agni has expelled those Dasyus, making the former and latter non-sacrificers depart.
He, the lord, made those who rejoiced in darkness turn eastward, the most heroic with his powers. I praise Agni, the ruler of wealth, the undefeated, the tamer of adversaries.
He drove out the enemies from their homes with his might; he made the wives of the Arya shine like dawns. That powerful Agni, the young one, restrained the hostile, making the clans strong with his strength.
All peoples seek refuge in his protection, desiring his favor. Vaiśvānara, the best of the two worlds, Agni, sits in the lap of his parents.
The god Vaiśvānara has bestowed the treasures of the deep, rising with the sun. Agni has given from the ocean, from the farthest, from below and above, from heaven and earth.
I call upon Agni, the god of strength, like a swift horse, with reverence. Be our messenger, knowing the sacrifice, understanding among the gods, wise and true to purpose.
Come, O Agni, along the proper paths, delighting in the fellowship of the gods; gladly accept their friendship. With your powers, resounding upon the earth’s summit, with your blows, you shake all the plants and beings.
The sacrifice faces east; the well-prepared sacred grass is set; Agni, invoked, is pleased like a Hotar. Calling upon the all-encompassing Mothers, O youngest one, you are born as the most auspicious.
At the ritual, the wise men immediately create the charioteer, the one among them who is discerning. Agni, the lord of the people, is established in the house, sweet-tongued, speaking truth, upholder of order.
The chosen fire has taken its seat, Agni has arrived; Agni, the priest, the supporter in the assembly of men. Heaven and earth have strengthened him, and the Hotar worships him, the all-encompassing one.
