सोमारुद्रा धारयेथामसुर्यं प्र वामिष्टयोऽरमश्नुवन्तु । दमेदमे सप्त रत्ना दधाना शं नो भूतं द्विपदे शं चतुष्पदे
Soma and Rudra, may you sustain the mighty power; let your blessings reach us unhindered; holding these seven jewels, may you grant us well-being for two-footed and four-footed alike.
सोमारुद्रा वि वृहतं विषूचीममीवा या नो गयमाविवेश । आरे बाधेथां निरृतिं पराचैरस्मे भद्रा सौश्रवसानि सन्तु
Soma and Rudra, drive away the spreading disease that has entered our dwelling; keep misfortune far from us, turn it away, and may auspicious fame be ours.
सोमारुद्रा युवमेतान्यस्मे विश्वा तनूषु भेषजानि धत्तम् । अव स्यतं मुञ्चतं यन्नो अस्ति तनूषु बद्धं कृतमेनो अस्मत्
Soma and Rudra, place all these remedies within us, in every limb; loosen and release whatever wrong is bound in our bodies, remove our sin.
तिग्मायुधौ तिग्महेती सुशेवौ सोमारुद्राविह सु मृळतं नः । प्र नो मुञ्चतं वरुणस्य पाशाद्गोपायतं नः सुमनस्यमाना
Sharp-armed, sharp-weaponed, gracious Soma and Rudra, be merciful to us here; free us from Varuna's bonds, guard us kindly, with benevolent minds.
जीमूतस्येव भवति प्रतीकं यद्वर्मी याति समदामुपस्थे । अनाविद्धया तन्वा जय त्वं स त्वा वर्मणो महिमा पिपर्तु
Like the face of a thundercloud, the shield appears when the armored one enters the battle's embrace; with unwounded body, conquer, and let the greatness of the shield protect you.
धन्वना गा धन्वनाजिं जयेम धन्वना तीव्राः समदो जयेम । धनुः शत्रोरपकामं कृणोति धन्वना सर्वाः प्रदिशो जयेम
With the bow, may we win cattle, may we win battle with the bow; the bow brings defeat to the enemy, with the bow may we conquer all directions.
वक्ष्यन्तीवेदा गनीगन्ति कर्णं प्रियं सखायं परिषस्वजाना । योषेव शिङ्क्ते वितताधि धन्वञ्ज्या इयं समने पारयन्ती
The bowstring, knowing well, approaches the ear, embracing its dear companion; like a woman, she pours forth upon the stretched bow, this string, carrying the arrow across the plain.
ते आचरन्ती समनेव योषा मातेव पुत्रं बिभृतामुपस्थे । अप शत्रून्विध्यतां संविदाने आर्त्नी इमे विष्फुरन्ती अमित्रान्
Moving together like women in unison, like a mother holding her son at her breast, may they strike down enemies in their assembly; these bowstrings, quivering, destroy foes.
बह्वीनां पिता बहुरस्य पुत्रश्चिश्चा कृणोति समनावगत्य । इषुधिः सङ्काः पृतनाश्च सर्वाः पृष्ठे निनद्धो जयति प्रसूतः
The quiver is the father of many, the bow is the son of much; when they come together on the battlefield, the quiver, the arrows, and all the hosts, fastened on the back, conquer when released.
रथे तिष्ठन्नयति वाजिनः पुरो यत्रयत्र कामयते सुषारथिः । अभीशूनां महिमानं पनायत मनः पश्चादनु यच्छन्ति रश्मयः
Standing on the chariot, the skilled charioteer leads the horses forward wherever he desires; let the greatness of the reins be praised, the mind follows behind as the reins guide.
तीव्रान्घोषान्कृण्वते वृषपाणयोऽश्वा रथेभिः सह वाजयन्तः । अवक्रामन्तः प्रपदैरमित्रान्क्षिणन्ति शत्रूँरनपव्ययन्तः
With strong hands they make loud sounds, the horses, racing with the chariots; advancing with their steps against the foes, they destroy the enemies, never turning away.
रथवाहनं हविरस्य नाम यत्रायुधं निहितमस्य वर्म । तत्रा रथमुप शग्मं सदेम विश्वाहा वयं सुमनस्यमानाः
The chariot is called the bearer of the offering, where the weapon and armor are placed; there may we, always with joyful minds, ascend the strong chariot.
स्वादुषंसदः पितरो वयोधाः कृच्छ्रेश्रितः शक्तीवन्तो गभीराः । चित्रसेना इषुबला अमृध्राः सतोवीरा उरवो व्रातसाहाः
The fathers, sweetly praised, wise with age, enduring hardship, powerful, profound; with varied banners, strong in arrows, unyielding, true heroes, broad, victorious in bands.
ब्राह्मणासः पितरः सोम्यासः शिवे नो द्यावापृथिवी अनेहसा । पूषा नः पातु दुरितादृतावृधो रक्षा माकिर्नो अघशंस ईशत
The Brahmins, our fathers, those filled with Soma, may Heaven and Earth be gracious to us without harm; may Pūṣan guard us from evil, O righteous one, protect us, let no evil-wisher rule over us.
सुपर्णं वस्ते मृगो अस्या दन्तो गोभिः संनद्धा पतति प्रसूता । यत्रा नरः सं च वि च द्रवन्ति तत्रास्मभ्यमिषवः शर्म यंसन्
The arrow wears a feather, its tip is a beast's tooth, bound with cowhide it flies forth; where men run together and apart, there may our arrows bring us protection.
ऋजीते परि वृङ्धि नोऽश्मा भवतु नस्तनूः । सोमो अधि ब्रवीतु नोऽदितिः शर्म यच्छतु
O straight-flying arrow, protect us; may our bodies be like stone; may Soma speak for us, may Aditi grant us protection.
आ जङ्घन्ति सान्वेषां जघनाँ उप जिघ्नते । अश्वाजनि प्रचेतसोऽश्वान्समत्सु चोदय
They strike the thighs, they strike the hips; the wise are born as horses, urge the horses on in the battles.
अहिरिव भोगैः पर्येति बाहुं ज्याया हेतिं परिबाधमानः । हस्तघ्नो विश्वा वयुनानि विद्वान्पुमान्पुमांसं परि पातु विश्वतः
Like a serpent, it encircles the arm with its coils, the bowstring, restraining the arrow; the hand, knowing all ways, protects every man from all sides.
आलाक्ता या रुरुशीर्ष्ण्यथो यस्या अयो मुखम् । इदं पर्जन्यरेतस इष्वै देव्यै बृहन्नमः
Red-dyed, with a deer’s head, and whose mouth is of iron—this, O divine arrow, offspring of Parjanya’s seed, to you we offer great homage.
अवसृष्टा परा पत शरव्ये ब्रह्मसंशिते । गच्छामित्रान्प्र पद्यस्व मामीषां कं चनोच्छिषः
Released, fly forth, O arrow, sharpened by prayer; go strike the enemies, do not leave any of them remaining.
यत्र बाणाः सम्पतन्ति कुमारा विशिखा इव । तत्रा नो ब्रह्मणस्पतिरदितिः शर्म यच्छतु विश्वाहा शर्म यच्छतु
Where arrows fall like boys, like shafts, there may Bṛhaspati and Aditi grant us protection, always grant us protection.
मर्माणि ते वर्मणा छादयामि सोमस्त्वा राजामृतेनानु वस्ताम् । उरोर्वरीयो वरुणस्ते कृणोतु जयन्तं त्वानु देवा मदन्तु
With armor I cover your vital parts; may Soma follow you with kingly ambrosia; may Varuṇa make you broad in the chest, may the gods make you victorious and rejoice in you.
यो नः स्वो अरणो यश्च निष्ट्यो जिघांसति । देवास्तं सर्वे धूर्वन्तु ब्रह्म वर्म ममान्तरम्
Whoever, whether our own or a stranger, wishes to harm us, may all the gods strike him down; may prayer be my inner armor.
अग्निं नरो दीधितिभिररण्योर्हस्तच्युती जनयन्त प्रशस्तम् । दूरेदृशं गृहपतिमथर्युम्
Men, with their bright thoughts, generate Agni from the two kindling woods, by the movement of their hands, the renowned one, far-seeing, the house-lord, the guest.
तमग्निमस्ते वसवो न्यृण्वन्सुप्रतिचक्षमवसे कुतश्चित् । दक्षाय्यो यो दम आस नित्यः
To that Agni, O Vasus, we bring our call, ever watchful for help from wherever it may come; he who is ever steadfast in the home, worthy of skill.
प्रेद्धो अग्ने दीदिहि पुरो नोऽजस्रया सूर्म्या यविष्ठ । त्वां शश्वन्त उप यन्ति वाजाः
Kindled, O Agni, shine forth for us in our dwellings, youngest one, with unfailing radiance; to you, ever, the prizes come near.
प्र ते अग्नयोऽग्निभ्यो वरं निः सुवीरासः शोशुचन्त द्युमन्तः । यत्रा नरः समासते सुजाताः
For you, Agni, from the fires, the best have blazed forth, strong and shining, where noble men are gathered together.
दा नो अग्ने धिया रयिं सुवीरं स्वपत्यं सहस्य प्रशस्तम् । न यं यावा तरति यातुमावान्
Grant us, Agni, through wisdom, wealth with brave sons, prosperity, and renowned strength, which neither foe nor traveler can surpass.
उप यमेति युवतिः सुदक्षं दोषा वस्तोर्हविष्मती घृताची । उप स्वैनमरमतिर्वसूयुः
To him comes the young woman, skilled and bearing offerings, at evening and morning, with clarified butter; to him, their own devotion, seeking wealth, draws near.
विश्वा अग्नेऽप दहारातीर्येभिस्तपोभिरदहो जरूथम् । प्र निस्वरं चातयस्वामीवाम्
Burn away, Agni, all hostile powers with your heat, undiminished, unaging; drive out every harm and misfortune.
