घृतवती भुवनानामभिश्रियोर्वी पृथ्वी मधुदुघे सुपेशसा । द्यावापृथिवी वरुणस्य धर्मणा विष्कभिते अजरे भूरिरेतसा
Broad and vast, the earth and sky, adorned with ghee, rich in honey, beautiful in form, are established by Varuṇa’s law, unaging, ever-fertile, supporting all beings.
असश्चन्ती भूरिधारे पयस्वती घृतं दुहाते सुकृते शुचिव्रते । राजन्ती अस्य भुवनस्य रोदसी अस्मे रेतः सिञ्चतं यन्मनुर्हितम्
Abundant, ever-flowing, rich in milk, they yield ghee for the righteous, pure in their vows. Ruling over all the world, O earth and sky, pour out for us the seed that Manu desired.
यो वामृजवे क्रमणाय रोदसी मर्तो ददाश धिषणे स साधति । प्र प्रजाभिर्जायते धर्मणस्परि युवोः सिक्ता विषुरूपाणि सव्रता
Whoever, seeking your favor, O earth and sky, strives with devotion, succeeds. Surrounded by offspring, he is born in accord with your law; your blessings, diverse in form, are bestowed with your will.
घृतेन द्यावापृथिवी अभीवृते घृतश्रिया घृतपृचा घृतावृधा । उर्वी पृथ्वी होतृवूर्ये पुरोहिते ते इद्विप्रा ईळते सुम्नमिष्टये
With ghee the earth and sky are adorned, shining with ghee, mingled with ghee, growing with ghee. Wide and vast, as priests and leaders, these wise ones are invoked for gracious favor.
मधु नो द्यावापृथिवी मिमिक्षतां मधुश्चुता मधुदुघे मधुव्रते । दधाने यज्ञं द्रविणं च देवता महि श्रवो वाजमस्मे सुवीर्यम्
May earth and sky grant us sweetness, dripping with honey, yielding honey, steadfast in their vow of sweetness. Bearing the sacrifice and wealth for the gods, may they grant us great glory, strength, and heroic power.
ऊर्जं नो द्यौश्च पृथिवी च पिन्वतां पिता माता विश्वविदा सुदंससा । संरराणे रोदसी विश्वशम्भुवा सनिं वाजं रयिमस्मे समिन्वताम्
May heaven and earth, father and mother, all-knowing, of good counsel, pour forth nourishment for us. United, O earth and sky, bring us all prosperity, grant us strength and wealth together.
उदु ष्य देवः सविता हिरण्यया बाहू अयंस्त सवनाय सुक्रतुः । घृतेन पाणी अभि प्रुष्णुते मखो युवा सुदक्षो रजसो विधर्मणि
The god Savitṛ has stretched out his golden arms for the rite, wise in action. With ghee he anoints his hands, the generous, youthful, skillful one, upholder of the order of the world.
देवस्य वयं सवितुः सवीमनि श्रेष्ठे स्याम वसुनश्च दावने । यो विश्वस्य द्विपदो यश्चतुष्पदो निवेशने प्रसवे चासि भूमनः
May we be in the favor of the god Savitṛ, in the best of his gifts and wealth. You, who are the lord of all that moves on two or four feet, in dwelling and in birth, you are the sovereign of all that exists.
अदब्धेभिः सवितः पायुभिष्ट्वं शिवेभिरद्य परि पाहि नो गयम् । हिरण्यजिह्वः सुविताय नव्यसे रक्षा माकिर्नो अघशंस ईशत
O Savitar, with steadfast guardians, protect our dwelling today with auspicious care; golden-tongued, for new prosperity, shield us, let no evil-wisher rule over us.
उदु ष्य देवः सविता दमूना हिरण्यपाणिः प्रतिदोषमस्थात् । अयोहनुर्यजतो मन्द्रजिह्व आ दाशुषे सुवति भूरि वामम्
The divine Savitar, master of the household, golden-handed, rises at every dawn; his unyielding arm, gentle-tongued, brings abundant gifts to the worshipper.
उदू अयाँ उपवक्तेव बाहू हिरण्यया सविता सुप्रतीका । दिवो रोहांस्यरुहत्पृथिव्या अरीरमत्पतयत्कच्चिदभ्वम्
Savitar, radiant and beautiful, lifts his golden arms like a herald; he ascends the heights of heaven and earth, stirs the world, and sets all in motion.
वाममद्य सवितर्वाममु श्वो दिवेदिवे वाममस्मभ्यं सावीः । वामस्य हि क्षयस्य देव भूरेरया धिया वामभाजः स्याम
Today, Savitar, grant us your favor; tomorrow, and day by day, bestow it upon us; for your generous abode, O god, through this prayer, may we be recipients of your bounty.
इन्द्रासोमा महि तद्वां महित्वं युवं महानि प्रथमानि चक्रथुः । युवं सूर्यं विविदथुर्युवं स्वर्विश्वा तमांस्यहतं निदश्च
O Indra and Soma, your greatness is vast; you performed mighty deeds from the beginning; you revealed the sun, you brought forth the light, you dispelled all darkness and the night.
इन्द्रासोमा वासयथ उषासमुत्सूर्यं नयथो ज्योतिषा सह । उप द्यां स्कम्भथु स्कम्भनेनाप्रथतं पृथिवीं मातरं वि
Indra and Soma, you awaken the dawn, you lead forth the sun together with its radiance; you support the sky with your strength, and you spread out the earth, our mother.
इन्द्रासोमावहिमपः परिष्ठां हथो वृत्रमनु वां द्यौरमन्यत । प्रार्णांस्यैरयतं नदीनामा समुद्राणि पप्रथुः पुरूणि
Indra and Soma, you drove away the waters, you slew Vritra, and the sky was yours; you set the rivers in motion, you expanded the oceans in many ways.
इन्द्रासोमा पक्वमामास्वन्तर्नि गवामिद्दधथुर्वक्षणासु । जगृभथुरनपिनद्धमासु रुशच्चित्रासु जगतीष्वन्तः
Indra and Soma, you placed the ripe milk within the cows, you deposited it in their udders; you grasped what was not yet bound, and within the shining, moving creatures.
इन्द्रासोमा युवमङ्ग तरुत्रमपत्यसाचं श्रुत्यं रराथे । युवं शुष्मं नर्यं चर्षणिभ्यः सं विव्यथुः पृतनाषाहमुग्रा
Indra and Soma, you indeed are the protectors, you granted renowned offspring; you gave heroic strength to the peoples, you stirred up fierce battle-power.
यो अद्रिभित्प्रथमजा ऋतावा बृहस्पतिराङ्गिरसो हविष्मान् । द्विबर्हज्मा प्राघर्मसत्पिता न आ रोदसी वृषभो रोरवीति
He who strikes the rock, first-born, true to order, Brihaspati, the Angiras, offering-laden; with double shelter, the ancient father, like a bull, roars between heaven and earth.
जनाय चिद्य ईवत उ लोकं बृहस्पतिर्देवहूतौ चकार । घ्नन्वृत्राणि वि पुरो दर्दरीति जयञ्छत्रूँरमित्रान्पृत्सु साहन्
Brihaspati, even for the people, created a space in the divine assembly; he smashes obstacles, breaks through fortresses, conquers enemies and adversaries in battle.
बृहस्पतिः समजयद्वसूनि महो व्रजान्गोमतो देव एषः । अपः सिषासन्स्वरप्रतीतो बृहस्पतिर्हन्त्यमित्रमर्कैः
Brihaspati has won the treasures, the great herds of cattle, O god; seeking the waters, eager for the light, Brihaspati strikes down the foe with hymns.
सोमारुद्रा धारयेथामसुर्यं प्र वामिष्टयोऽरमश्नुवन्तु । दमेदमे सप्त रत्ना दधाना शं नो भूतं द्विपदे शं चतुष्पदे
Soma and Rudra, may you sustain the mighty power; let your blessings reach us unhindered; holding these seven jewels, may you grant us well-being for two-footed and four-footed alike.
सोमारुद्रा वि वृहतं विषूचीममीवा या नो गयमाविवेश । आरे बाधेथां निरृतिं पराचैरस्मे भद्रा सौश्रवसानि सन्तु
Soma and Rudra, drive away the spreading disease that has entered our dwelling; keep misfortune far from us, turn it away, and may auspicious fame be ours.
सोमारुद्रा युवमेतान्यस्मे विश्वा तनूषु भेषजानि धत्तम् । अव स्यतं मुञ्चतं यन्नो अस्ति तनूषु बद्धं कृतमेनो अस्मत्
Soma and Rudra, place all these remedies within us, in every limb; loosen and release whatever wrong is bound in our bodies, remove our sin.
तिग्मायुधौ तिग्महेती सुशेवौ सोमारुद्राविह सु मृळतं नः । प्र नो मुञ्चतं वरुणस्य पाशाद्गोपायतं नः सुमनस्यमाना
Sharp-armed, sharp-weaponed, gracious Soma and Rudra, be merciful to us here; free us from Varuna's bonds, guard us kindly, with benevolent minds.
जीमूतस्येव भवति प्रतीकं यद्वर्मी याति समदामुपस्थे । अनाविद्धया तन्वा जय त्वं स त्वा वर्मणो महिमा पिपर्तु
Like the face of a thundercloud, the shield appears when the armored one enters the battle's embrace; with unwounded body, conquer, and let the greatness of the shield protect you.
धन्वना गा धन्वनाजिं जयेम धन्वना तीव्राः समदो जयेम । धनुः शत्रोरपकामं कृणोति धन्वना सर्वाः प्रदिशो जयेम
With the bow, may we win cattle, may we win battle with the bow; the bow brings defeat to the enemy, with the bow may we conquer all directions.
वक्ष्यन्तीवेदा गनीगन्ति कर्णं प्रियं सखायं परिषस्वजाना । योषेव शिङ्क्ते वितताधि धन्वञ्ज्या इयं समने पारयन्ती
The bowstring, knowing well, approaches the ear, embracing its dear companion; like a woman, she pours forth upon the stretched bow, this string, carrying the arrow across the plain.
ते आचरन्ती समनेव योषा मातेव पुत्रं बिभृतामुपस्थे । अप शत्रून्विध्यतां संविदाने आर्त्नी इमे विष्फुरन्ती अमित्रान्
Moving together like women in unison, like a mother holding her son at her breast, may they strike down enemies in their assembly; these bowstrings, quivering, destroy foes.
बह्वीनां पिता बहुरस्य पुत्रश्चिश्चा कृणोति समनावगत्य । इषुधिः सङ्काः पृतनाश्च सर्वाः पृष्ठे निनद्धो जयति प्रसूतः
The quiver is the father of many, the bow is the son of much; when they come together on the battlefield, the quiver, the arrows, and all the hosts, fastened on the back, conquer when released.
रथे तिष्ठन्नयति वाजिनः पुरो यत्रयत्र कामयते सुषारथिः । अभीशूनां महिमानं पनायत मनः पश्चादनु यच्छन्ति रश्मयः
Standing on the chariot, the skilled charioteer leads the horses forward wherever he desires; let the greatness of the reins be praised, the mind follows behind as the reins guide.
