Of all the beings, you are the greatest, Mitra and Varuṇa; may you grow with our hymns. Together, like rays, you restrain the most desirable; two peoples, unequal, with your own arms.
This my inspired thought spreads out, with loving reverence, towards the sacred seat. May you, Mitra and Varuṇa, grant us protection, the shield, or the strong defense, O generous ones.
Come, O Mitra and Varuṇa, to this well-lauded offering, gladly invoked with reverent homage; together, you who dwell in vigilance, hear the prayers of the people, for your greatness is renowned.
Like swift horses yoked together, pure and allied, when Aditi bears the embryo of truth; you, mighty and great, being born, fiercely cast down the foe for the mortal.
When all the gods, exulting in your greatness, bestowed dominion upon you in harmony; then, being present, you encompassed even the broad heavens and earth, your unfailing, unerring spies.
For you uphold dominion throughout the days, you stretch forth the summit like the sky's measure; your firm ordinance, O all-gods, sustains both earth and heaven, O upholders of law.
You fill the vessel, you fill the womb, when the householders replenish the dwelling; the young women, unwearied, do not tire, when they bear the all-nourishing milk.
With your tongue, O wise ones, you taste this offering, when your true desire is fulfilled by the rite; may your greatness, rich in ghee, abide here—may you, for the worshipper, scatter all harm.
When you, O Mitra and Varuṇa, move forth, your dear ordinances the young uphold; neither gods nor mortals, nor those without sacrifice, nor the offspring of the waters, can transgress them.
When the singers utter your praise, some proclaim it, others, wise, reflect upon it; so we declare your true hymns—nothing among the gods equals your greatness.
Thus, O Mitra and Varuṇa, your protection is sought, your help is invoked; as the cows follow, trembling, so the bold one yokes the strong steed in battle.
May your sacrifice, raised up with devotion, be heard—Indra and Varuṇa, with men who praise and spread the sacred grass, come today for great favor, for your great benevolence.
For you are the highest, O gods, the most mighty, the strongest among heroes—so may you be; among the generous, the greatest, of powerful might, destroyers of Vṛtra by truth, leaders of all hosts.
Praise them with hymns worthy of reverence, with prayers—Indra and Varuṇa, rejoicing in favor; one with the thunderbolt slays Vṛtra with might, the other, wise, prevails in contests.
When the goddesses and men increased, all the gods, renowned among men, grew strong; to them, O Indra and Varuṇa, belongs greatness—may heaven and earth be broad for you.
He indeed is a true giver, O Indra, O Varuṇa, who serves you with truth; with your favor, may he overcome his foes, may he attain wealth and people rich in treasures.
To whom you, O gods, grant wealth, abundant and manifold, for the worshipper's rite; may that, O Indra and Varuṇa, be ours—may he who strives drive away our adversaries.
And may you, O Indra and Varuṇa, guardians of order, bestow wealth upon our wise ones; whose might is victorious in battles—by your splendor, the conqueror swiftly surpasses all.
Now, O Indra and Varuṇa, as we praise you, grant us wealth for glorious fame, O gods; thus, praising the host of your greatness, may we cross over all misfortunes as in a ship over waters.
To the sovereign, the great, let my hymn now go forth, to the beloved, wide-ruling god Varuṇa; he who, vast in might and great in command, shines forth by his will, undying like a flame.
Indra and Varuṇa, drink this pressed Soma, the exhilarating draught, you who are firm in your vows. Your chariot, for the gods’ benefit, comes to the sacrifice, approaching the well-filled vessel for drinking.
Indra and Varuṇa, mighty ones, may you both enjoy the sweetest, most potent Soma. This libation, poured out for us, come, sit upon this sacred grass and delight in it.
With united intention I offer to you both, Indra and Viṣṇu, who have surpassed this work. Accept the sacrifice and grant us wealth, leading us safely on unharmed paths.
You, Indra and Viṣṇu, creators of all thoughts, the vessels holding Soma are yours. May our hymns, offered in praise, bring you favor; may our songs and chants, sung with devotion, support you.
Indra and Viṣṇu, lords of exhilaration, come to the Soma, bringing wealth. May the thoughts of the wise unite for you, may the praises sung in hymns gather together.
Let the swift horses bring you both, Indra and Viṣṇu, who overcome opposition, to the shared feast. Accept all the invocations and thoughts, listen to my prayers and words.
Indra and Viṣṇu, you have made wide the exhilaration of Soma for your pleasure. You made the midspace broader, you spread out the realms for our living.
Indra and Viṣṇu, growing strong with the offering, worthy of worship, receivers of oblations, grant us wealth. You are at the ocean, the vessel holding Soma.
Indra and Viṣṇu, drink the honeyed Soma, O wondrous ones, fill your bellies. The exhilarating draughts have come to you; listen to my prayers, heed my call.
Both of you are victorious, neither is defeated, nor has either of you ever been overcome. When you, Indra and Viṣṇu, strive together, you conquer a thousandfold in threefold ways.
