Your good path, your easy way, is on the mountains; you drive away darkness with your own light. Bring to us, O daughter of heaven, abundant wealth for our nourishment.
With yoked horses, you bring the best, O dawn; you carry the desired gift with joy. You, O goddess, daughter of heaven, are glorious in the ancient invocation, splendid to behold.
Even the birds of the dwelling have flown up, and those men who share in the father at the dawn. You bring much to us at home, O goddess dawn, for the worshipping mortal.
This is she, our daughter of heaven, born shining, rising among the peoples, human and divine. She, radiant with her light, beautiful, is recognized even beyond the darkness and the nights.
The radiant dawns, with their red-yoked horses, shine forth in splendor; their moon-like chariots lead the way for the great sacrifice. They drive away the darkness of the waves.
The dawns bring glory, strength, nourishment, and vigor for the worshipper, for mortals. Generous, they grant heroic offspring; today, bestow the precious gift upon the one who offers.
Now, indeed, you dawns have bestowed the precious gift; now, for the hero, for the worshipper. Now, for the inspired poet, when he recites hymns, you have always carried it for the seeker, even from ancient times.
Now, indeed, O dawns, the Angiras praise you for the cattle, for the cows. With the sun's ray and with prayer, they broke through; true was the invocation of men to the gods.
Rise, O daughter of heaven, ancient, like Bharadvāja, generous to the worshipper. Grant us abundant wealth and heroic strength; place glory upon us, wide-famed.
Let that form be known to the wise—one name, the cow, is common, yet she is distributed. For mortals, she yields another for milking; once, the bright one, Pṛśni, gave milk.
Those fires, like Agni, shine in their resting places; twice, thrice, the Maruts have grown strong. Their dust is golden; together, with their prowess and manliness, they have become.
Those who are sons of Rudra, the beneficent, and those who are steadfast for bearing, know their mother—the great, the mighty one. Pṛśni placed the embryo for beauty.
They do not desire to leave their origin; being pure, they avoid blame. When they are milked, the pure ones, according to pleasure, adorned with beauty, release their form.
Swiftly, even for milking, they bear the strong name of the Maruts. Not by praise are they wearied by greatness; even now, the generous ones drive away the fierce.
Those fierce ones, with strength and boldness, yoke both heaven and earth together. Then, for them, heaven and earth, with their own light, stand firm; the space does not fail.
Without hindrance, O Maruts, your movement is swift—even the horseless, the uncharioted, the unbound, the unoppressed, traverse the realm; they go along the paths of heaven and earth, accomplishing.
There is no one who can stop or surpass him, O Maruts, whom you aid in gaining strength. Whether in offspring, in cattle, in children, or in waters, he breaks through the enclosure, then attains the sky.
Offer the splendid hymn to the mighty Maruts, to their self-power. Those who endure mighty deeds with might, the earth and Agni tremble before their ceremonies.
Radiant, like the flash of the sacrifice, their bright spears are like the tongues of Agni. Threefold are their praises, their movements like heroes; the Maruts, shining at birth, are invincible.
That growing Marut, with shining vision, son of Rudra, I invoke with prayer. For the hosts of heaven, pure in mind; the mighty mountains have not touched him.
Of all the beings, you are the greatest, Mitra and Varuṇa; may you grow with our hymns. Together, like rays, you restrain the most desirable; two peoples, unequal, with your own arms.
This my inspired thought spreads out, with loving reverence, towards the sacred seat. May you, Mitra and Varuṇa, grant us protection, the shield, or the strong defense, O generous ones.
Come, O Mitra and Varuṇa, to this well-lauded offering, gladly invoked with reverent homage; together, you who dwell in vigilance, hear the prayers of the people, for your greatness is renowned.
Like swift horses yoked together, pure and allied, when Aditi bears the embryo of truth; you, mighty and great, being born, fiercely cast down the foe for the mortal.
When all the gods, exulting in your greatness, bestowed dominion upon you in harmony; then, being present, you encompassed even the broad heavens and earth, your unfailing, unerring spies.
For you uphold dominion throughout the days, you stretch forth the summit like the sky's measure; your firm ordinance, O all-gods, sustains both earth and heaven, O upholders of law.
You fill the vessel, you fill the womb, when the householders replenish the dwelling; the young women, unwearied, do not tire, when they bear the all-nourishing milk.
With your tongue, O wise ones, you taste this offering, when your true desire is fulfilled by the rite; may your greatness, rich in ghee, abide here—may you, for the worshipper, scatter all harm.
When you, O Mitra and Varuṇa, move forth, your dear ordinances the young uphold; neither gods nor mortals, nor those without sacrifice, nor the offspring of the waters, can transgress them.
When the singers utter your praise, some proclaim it, others, wise, reflect upon it; so we declare your true hymns—nothing among the gods equals your greatness.
