इन्द्राग्नी शृणुतं हवं यजमानस्य सुन्वतः । वीतं हव्यान्या गतं पिबतं सोम्यं मधु
Indra and Agni, listen to the call of the sacrificer who presses Soma; accept the offerings, come, and drink the sweet Soma.
इयमददाद्रभसमृणच्युतं दिवोदासं वध्र्यश्वाय दाशुषे । या शश्वन्तमाचखादावसं पणिं ता ते दात्राणि तविषा सरस्वति
This Sarasvati, powerful and unyielding, gave gifts to Divodasa and the generous Vadhryashva; she who always protected from the greedy Panis, those are your mighty gifts, Sarasvati.
इयं शुष्मेभिर्बिसखा इवारुजत्सानु गिरीणां तविषेभिरूर्मिभिः । पारावतघ्नीमवसे सुवृक्तिभिः सरस्वतीमा विवासेम धीतिभिः
She, with her strength, broke through the mountain slopes like a lotus stalk, with powerful waves; for help against enemies, with splendid praises, let us invoke Sarasvati with our thoughts.
सरस्वति देवनिदो नि बर्हय प्रजां विश्वस्य बृसयस्य मायिनः । उत क्षितिभ्योऽवनीरविन्दो विषमेभ्यो अस्रवो वाजिनीवति
Sarasvati, dwelling among the gods, spread out the offspring of the mighty magician; and from the earth she drew forth waters, from uneven places, in the rich land.
प्र णो देवी सरस्वती वाजेभिर्वाजिनीवती । धीनामवित्र्यवतु
May the goddess Sarasvati, rich in horses and strength, protect us, the inspirer of thoughts.
यस्त्वा देवि सरस्वत्युपब्रूते धने हिते । इन्द्रं न वृत्रतूर्ये
Whoever, O goddess Sarasvati, approaches you for wealth and prosperity, is like Indra in victory over obstacles.
त्वं देवि सरस्वत्यवा वाजेषु वाजिनि । रदा पूषेव नः सनिम्
You, O goddess Sarasvati, aid us in contests, rich in strength; grant us favor like Pūshan.
उत स्या नः सरस्वती घोरा हिरण्यवर्तनिः । वृत्रघ्नी वष्टि सुष्टुतिम्
May Sarasvati, fierce, with golden path, be for us; the slayer of obstacles, she desires our praise.
यस्या अनन्तो अह्रुतस्त्वेषश्चरिष्णुरर्णवः । अमश्चरति रोरुवत्
Of her, the endless, unceasing, mighty, moving, roaring flood, the strong one moves, resounding.
सा नो विश्वा अति द्विषः स्वसॄरन्या ऋतावरी । अतन्नहेव सूर्यः
May she, righteous among her sisters, pass beyond all our haters, shining forth like the Sun.
उत नः प्रिया प्रियासु सप्तस्वसा सुजुष्टा । सरस्वती स्तोम्या भूत्
May Sarasvati, dear among the dear seven sisters, well-pleased, be worthy of our praise.
आपप्रुषी पार्थिवान्युरु रजो अन्तरिक्षम् । सरस्वती निदस्पातु
Sarasvati, who fills the earthly realms, the wide space, and the atmosphere, may she drive away our foes.
त्रिषधस्था सप्तधातुः पञ्च जाता वर्धयन्ती । वाजेवाजे हव्या भूत्
She stands in three places, has seven sources, five births, ever increasing; may she be invoked in every contest.
प्र या महिम्ना महिनासु चेकिते द्युम्नेभिरन्या अपसामपस्तमा । रथ इव बृहती विभ्वने कृतोपस्तुत्या चिकितुषा सरस्वती
She, who by her greatness is foremost among the mighty, surpassing others in splendor, like a chariot made for display, Sarasvati, praised by the wise.
सरस्वत्यभि नो नेषि वस्यो माप स्फरीः पयसा मा न आ धक् । जुषस्व नः सख्या वेश्या च मा त्वत्क्षेत्राण्यरणानि गन्म
Sarasvati, bring us wealth; do not withhold your abundance; grant us your friendship and hospitality. May we not go to barren lands away from your fields.
स्तुषे नरा दिवो अस्य प्रसन्ताश्विना हुवे जरमाणो अर्कैः । या सद्य उस्रा व्युषि ज्मो अन्तान्युयूषतः पर्युरू वरांसि
I praise the two men, the swift Ashvins of heaven; I, growing old, call upon them with hymns—those who at dawn, at the coming of light, swiftly traverse the farthest realms.
ता यज्ञमा शुचिभिश्चक्रमाणा रथस्य भानुं रुरुचू रजोभिः । पुरू वरांस्यमिता मिमानापो धन्वान्यति याथो अज्रान्
They, shining, wheel their chariot in the sacrifice with pure radiance, lighting up the spaces; measuring countless realms, they cross rivers and deserts, unhindered.
ता ह त्यद्वर्तिर्यदरध्रमुग्रेत्था धिय ऊहथुः शश्वदश्वैः । मनोजवेभिरिषिरैः शयध्यै परि व्यथिर्दाशुषो मर्त्यस्य
They, indeed, are the course when the strong, unwearied ones, ever with swift horses, carry the thoughts, with mind-speeding steeds, to bring help to the worshipper, to the mortal.
ता नव्यसो जरमाणस्य मन्मोप भूषतो युयुजानसप्ती । शुभं पृक्षमिषमूर्जं वहन्ता होता यक्षत्प्रत्नो अध्रुग्युवाना
They, ever new, adorn the hymn of the aging singer, yoking their chariot; bringing auspicious rain, food, and strength, the Hotar invokes them, the ancient, unfailing, youthful ones.
ता वल्गू दस्रा पुरुशाकतमा प्रत्ना नव्यसा वचसा विवासे । या शंसते स्तुवते शम्भविष्ठा बभूवतुर्गृणते चित्रराती
Those two, beautiful, wondrous, most praised among men, I invoke with both ancient and new words—those who are praised, who bring happiness, who are generous to the singer.
ता भुज्युं विभिरद्भ्यः समुद्रात्तुग्रस्य सूनुमूहथू रजोभिः । अरेणुभिर्योजनेभिर्भुजन्ता पतत्रिभिरर्णसो निरुपस्थात्
They rescued Bhujyu, son of Tugra, from the waters, from the sea, with their chariot, crossing distances with dustless paths, with flying birds, they brought him safely.
वि जयुषा रथ्या यातमद्रिं श्रुतं हवं वृषणा वध्रिमत्याः । दशस्यन्ता शयवे पिप्यथुर्गामिति च्यवाना सुमतिं भुरण्यू
With victorious chariot, you two, O mighty ones, went to the mountain at the call of Vadhrimati; granting favor to the one who lies down, you filled the cows, O generous ones, bringing good fortune.
यद्रोदसी प्रदिवो अस्ति भूमा हेळो देवानामुत मर्त्यत्रा । तदादित्या वसवो रुद्रियासो रक्षोयुजे तपुरघं दधात
Whatever greatness of heaven and earth is in the highest sky, or among the gods or mortals, that, O Adityas, Vasus, Rudras, you place as a burning weapon against the demon.
य ईं राजानावृतुथा विदधद्रजसो मित्रो वरुणश्चिकेतत् । गम्भीराय रक्षसे हेतिमस्य द्रोघाय चिद्वचस आनवाय
He who, as king, wisely rules the spaces—Mitra and Varuna know this—deep for protection, for the weapon, even against the deceitful, for the word, for the one who brings harm.
अन्तरैश्चक्रैस्तनयाय वर्तिर्द्युमता यातं नृवता रथेन । सनुत्येन त्यजसा मर्त्यस्य वनुष्यतामपि शीर्षा ववृक्तम्
With your wheel, come for our offspring, with your shining, man-bearing chariot; with your strength, drive away the enemy of man, even if he is strong, cut off his head.
आ परमाभिरुत मध्यमाभिर्नियुद्भिर्यातमवमाभिरर्वाक् । दृळ्हस्य चिद्गोमतो वि व्रजस्य दुरो वर्तं गृणते चित्रराती
Come with your bands from the highest, the middle, and the lowest realms; break open even the strong, cattle-rich enclosure for the singer, O generous ones.
क्व त्या वल्गू पुरुहूताद्य दूतो न स्तोमोऽविदन्नमस्वान् । आ यो अर्वाङ्नासत्या ववर्त प्रेष्ठा ह्यसथो अस्य मन्मन्
Where now are those splendid ones, O much-invoked, whom the hymn as messenger did not find among the unworthy? Those two Asvins, who turn toward us, are most beloved; indeed, the thought of this one is steadfast for them.
अरं मे गन्तं हवनायास्मै गृणाना यथा पिबाथो अन्धः । परि ह त्यद्वर्तिर्याथो रिषो न यत्परो नान्तरस्तुतुर्यात्
Come to me for the offering, as those who praise you, so that you may drink the Soma. Let your course circle around, as you go, unharmed; let nothing else hinder or interrupt your praise.
अकारि वामन्धसो वरीमन्नस्तारि बर्हिः सुप्रायणतमम् । उत्तानहस्तो युवयुर्ववन्दा वां नक्षन्तो अद्रय आञ्जन्
A path has been made for the Soma-drinker; the sacred grass has been spread, most suitable for your approach. With hands raised, the youthful one has honored you; the stones, shining, have marked your arrival.
ऊर्ध्वो वामग्निरध्वरेष्वस्थात्प्र रातिरेति जूर्णिनी घृताची । प्र होता गूर्तमना उराणोऽयुक्त यो नासत्या हवीमन्
Your Agni stands upright in the rituals; the offering flows, adorned with ghee. The priest, eager-minded, moves forward; he has yoked the oblation for you, O Asvins.
