अप त्यं परिपन्थिनं मुषीवाणं हुरश्चितम् । दूरमधि स्रुतेरज
Drive away that highwayman, the thief, the lurking one; cast him far from the path of hearing.
त्वं तस्य द्वयाविनोऽघशंसस्य कस्य चित् । पदाभि तिष्ठ तपुषिम्
You, standing with your foot, restrain the double-dealing, the evil-wisher, whoever he may be.
आ तत्ते दस्र मन्तुमः पूषन्नवो वृणीमहे । येन पितॄनचोदयः
Now, O wondrous Pūṣan, we choose your guidance, by which you rouse our ancestors.
अधा नो विश्वसौभग हिरण्यवाशीमत्तम । धनानि सुषणा कृधि
Then grant us all good fortune, O bestower of wealth with golden mane; make us rich in pleasant treasures.
अति नः सश्चतो नय सुगा नः सुपथा कृणु । पूषन्निह क्रतुं विदः
Lead us beyond obstacles, make our path easy and good; O Pūṣan, grant us understanding here.
अभि सूयवसं नय न नवज्वारो अध्वने । पूषन्निह क्रतुं विदः
Guide us to abundant pasture, let us not be weary on the journey; O Pūṣan, grant us understanding here.
शग्धि पूर्धि प्र यंसि च शिशीहि प्रास्युदरम् । पूषन्निह क्रतुं विदः
Give, nourish, and send forth your gifts; fill the vessel with plenty; O Pūṣan, grant us understanding here.
न पूषणं मेथामसि सूक्तैरभि गृणीमसि । वसूनि दस्ममीमहे
We do not insult Pūṣan; we praise him with hymns; we seek his treasures, the gracious gifts.
कद्रुद्राय प्रचेतसे मीळ्हुष्टमाय तव्यसे । वोचेम शंतमं हृदे
To the wise, mighty, and most generous Rudra, let us speak words most pleasing to the heart.
यथा नो अदितिः करत्पश्वे नृभ्यो यथा गवे । यथा तोकाय रुद्रियम्
As Aditi acts for us, for men, for cattle, so may she act for offspring, O Rudra.
यथा नो मित्रो वरुणो यथा रुद्रश्चिकेतति । यथा विश्वे सजोषसः
As Mitra, Varuṇa, and Rudra are mindful of us, so may all the gods together be.
गाथपतिं मेधपतिं रुद्रं जलाषभेषजम् । तच्छंयोः सुम्नमीमहे
We seek the favor of Rudra, lord of song and wisdom, healer with water and herbs.
यः शुक्र इव सूर्यो हिरण्यमिव रोचते । श्रेष्ठो देवानां वसुः
He shines like the bright sun, like gold; the best among the gods, a treasure.
शं नः करत्यर्वते सुगं मेषाय मेष्ये । नृभ्यो नारिभ्यो गवे
May he bring us peace, prosperity for the ploughman, for the shepherd, for men and women, for cattle.
अस्मे सोम श्रियमधि नि धेहि शतस्य नृणाम् । महि श्रवस्तुविनृम्णम्
Soma, place wealth upon us, among a hundred men; great fame and heroic strength.
मा नः सोमपरिबाधो मारातयो जुहुरन्त । आ न इन्दो वाजे भज
Let not Soma's hostility or enemies harm us; come, Indu, share in the prize.
यास्ते प्रजा अमृतस्य परस्मिन्धामन्नृतस्य । मूर्धा नाभा सोम वेन आभूषन्तीः सोम वेदः
Your offspring, Soma, in the far realm of immortality, in the abode of truth, crowned at the head and navel, Soma knows them, adorned.
अग्ने विवस्वदुषसश्चित्रं राधो अमर्त्य । आ दाशुषे जातवेदो वहा त्वमद्या देवाँ उषर्बुधः
Agni, radiant with the dawns of Vivasvat, immortal reward; bring the gods today for the worshipper, O Jātavedas, awakened by the dawn.
जुष्टो हि दूतो असि हव्यवाहनोऽग्ने रथीरध्वराणाम् । सजूरश्विभ्यामुषसा सुवीर्यमस्मे धेहि श्रवो बृहत्
You are the beloved messenger, Agni, the carrier of offerings, charioteer of sacrifices; together with the Aśvins and the dawn, grant us heroic strength and great fame.
अद्या दूतं वृणीमहे वसुमग्निं पुरुप्रियम् । धूमकेतुं भाऋजीकं व्युष्टिषु यज्ञानामध्वरश्रियम्
Today we choose Agni as our messenger, the generous one, beloved by many; the smoke-bannered, radiant one, in the dawns, the glory of sacrifices.
श्रेष्ठं यविष्ठमतिथिं स्वाहुतं जुष्टं जनाय दाशुषे । देवाँ अच्छा यातवे जातवेदसमग्निमीळे व्युष्टिषु
The best, youngest, guest, well-invoked, beloved by the worshipper; to the gods, for their coming, I praise Jātavedas Agni in the dawns.
स्तविष्यामि त्वामहं विश्वस्यामृत भोजन । अग्ने त्रातारममृतं मियेध्य यजिष्ठं हव्यवाहन
I will praise you, O immortal, for all the immortal food; Agni, protector, immortal, wise, most fit for worship, carrier of offerings.
सुशंसो बोधि गृणते यविष्ठ्य मधुजिह्वः स्वाहुतः । प्रस्कण्वस्य प्रतिरन्नायुर्जीवसे नमस्या दैव्यं जनम्
O youngest one, become well-disposed to the singer, O sweet-tongued, well-invoked one; for the sake of Praskaṇva, bring forth food and long life, let us honor the divine assembly.
होतारं विश्ववेदसं सं हि त्वा विश इन्धते । स आ वह पुरुहूत प्रचेतसोऽग्ने देवाँ इह द्रवत्
The knower of all, the Hotar, you are kindled by the people; you, O much-invoked, wise Agni, bring here the gods, let them hasten here.
सवितारमुषसमश्विना भगमग्निं व्युष्टिषु क्षपः । कण्वासस्त्वा सुतसोमास इन्धते हव्यवाहं स्वध्वर
At the dawns, the Kaṇvas, with pressed Soma, kindle you, Agni, the bringer of offerings, together with Savitar, Uṣas, the Aśvins, Bhaga, as the nights end.
पतिर्ह्यध्वराणामग्ने दूतो विशामसि । उषर्बुध आ वह सोमपीतये देवाँ अद्य स्वर्दृशः
You are the lord of the rituals, Agni, the messenger among the people; awakened at dawn, bring the gods today, seers of the sun, to drink Soma.
अग्ने पूर्वा अनूषसो विभावसो दीदेथ विश्वदर्शतः । असि ग्रामेष्वविता पुरोहितोऽसि यज्ञेषु मानुषः
Agni, shining one, you blaze forth before the dawns, all-seeing; you are the protector in the gatherings, the chief priest, you are the human priest at the sacrifices.
नि त्वा यज्ञस्य साधनमग्ने होतारमृत्विजम् । मनुष्वद्देव धीमहि प्रचेतसं जीरं दूतममर्त्यम्
We appoint you, Agni, as the accomplisher of the sacrifice, as Hotar and officiant; like Manu, O god, we think of you, wise, ancient, immortal messenger.
यद्देवानां मित्रमहः पुरोहितोऽन्तरो यासि दूत्यम् । सिन्धोरिव प्रस्वनितास ऊर्मयोऽग्नेर्भ्राजन्ते अर्चयः
When, as the friend of the gods, you go as the chief priest to carry the message, your flames, Agni, shine forth like the roaring waves of a river.
श्रुधि श्रुत्कर्ण वह्निभिर्देवैरग्ने सयावभिः । आ सीदन्तु बर्हिषि मित्रो अर्यमा प्रातर्यावाणो अध्वरम्
Hear, O Agni, with attentive ears, together with the gods and your companions; let Mitra and Aryaman, who travel at dawn, sit on the sacred grass at the sacrifice.
