अयं मे पीत उदियर्ति वाचमयं मनीषामुशतीमजीगः । अयं षळुर्वीरमिमीत धीरो न याभ्यो भुवनं कच्चनारे
This pressed Soma stirs my voice, this inspires my eager thought; this wise one measures out the hero, from whom not even a single world is hidden.
अयं स यो वरिमाणं पृथिव्या वर्ष्माणं दिवो अकृणोदयं सः । अयं पीयूषं तिसृषु प्रवत्सु सोमो दाधारोर्वन्तरिक्षम्
This is he who made the wide expanse of earth, who made the height of heaven—this Soma has placed nourishing essence in the three flowing streams, and supported the broad midspace.
अयं विदच्चित्रदृशीकमर्णः शुक्रसद्मनामुषसामनीके । अयं महान्महता स्कम्भनेनोद्द्यामस्तभ्नाद्वृषभो मरुत्वान्
This one, with wondrous vision, has knowledge; in the radiant abode, in the presence of the dawns; this great one, by his great support, upheld the sky, the bull with the Maruts.
धृषत्पिब कलशे सोममिन्द्र वृत्रहा शूर समरे वसूनाम् । माध्यंदिने सवन आ वृषस्व रयिस्थानो रयिमस्मासु धेहि
Drink the bold Soma in the vessel, O Indra, slayer of Vritra, hero in the gathering of riches; at the midday pressing, become strong, and bestow wealth upon us, you who possess riches.
इन्द्र प्र णः पुरएतेव पश्य प्र नो नय प्रतरं वस्यो अच्छ । भवा सुपारो अतिपारयो नो भवा सुनीतिरुत वामनीतिः
Indra, look upon us as you did upon our forefathers; lead us across to the further shore of wealth; be a good pilot, carry us across, be our good guide and our wise leader.
उरुं नो लोकमनु नेषि विद्वान्स्वर्वज्ज्योतिरभयं स्वस्ति । ऋष्वा त इन्द्र स्थविरस्य बाहू उप स्थेयाम शरणा बृहन्ता
You, knowing, lead us to a wide space, to the radiant, fearless, and auspicious light; mighty Indra, to your strong and ancient arms may we come for shelter.
वरिष्ठे न इन्द्र वन्धुरे धा वहिष्ठयोः शतावन्नश्वयोरा । इषमा वक्षीषां वर्षिष्ठां मा नस्तारीन्मघवन्रायो अर्यः
Place us, O Indra, in the best chariot, in the swiftest, with a hundred prizes and horses; bring us the most abundant wealth—let not the hostile rich man surpass us, O generous one.
इन्द्र मृळ मह्यं जीवातुमिच्छ चोदय धियमयसो न धाराम् । यत्किं चाहं त्वायुरिदं वदामि तज्जुषस्व कृधि मा देववन्तम्
Indra, be gracious to me, grant me life; inspire my prayers as the craftsman sharpens the edge; whatever I, seeking long life, say to you—accept that, and do not make me subject to the gods' displeasure.
त्रातारमिन्द्रमवितारमिन्द्रं हवेहवे सुहवं शूरमिन्द्रम् । ह्वयामि शक्रं पुरुहूतमिन्द्रं स्वस्ति नो मघवा धात्विन्द्रः
I call upon Indra, the protector and helper, the easily-invoked hero, at every offering; I summon Śakra, much-invoked Indra. May Maghavan Indra grant us well-being.
इन्द्रः सुत्रामा स्ववाँ अवोभिः सुमृळीको भवतु विश्ववेदाः । बाधतां द्वेषो अभयं कृणोतु सुवीर्यस्य पतयः स्याम
May Indra, of excellent protection and generous gifts, be gracious to us with his aid, all-knowing. May he drive away hatred, grant us fearlessness; may we be lords of heroic strength.
तस्य वयं सुमतौ यज्ञियस्यापि भद्रे सौमनसे स्याम । स सुत्रामा स्ववाँ इन्द्रो अस्मे आराच्चिद्द्वेषः सनुतर्युयोतु
May we be in the good favor and happy mind of that worshipful one. May Indra, of excellent protection and generous gifts, drive away hatred from us, even from afar.
अव त्वे इन्द्र प्रवतो नोर्मिर्गिरो ब्रह्माणि नियुतो धवन्ते । उरू न राधः सवना पुरूण्यपो गा वज्रिन्युवसे समिन्दून्
To you, Indra, descend the streams, the hymns, the chants, the prayers, the offerings. Like wide wealth at the pressings, you, O Vajrin, gather the many drops together.
क ईं स्तवत्कः पृणात्को यजाते यदुग्रमिन्मघवा विश्वहावेत् । पादाविव प्रहरन्नन्यमन्यं कृणोति पूर्वमपरं शचीभिः
Who can praise him, who can satisfy him, who can worship him, when Maghavan, the slayer of all, advances? Striking one after another like feet, with his powers he makes the former the latter.
शृण्वे वीर उग्रमुग्रं दमायन्नन्यमन्यमतिनेनीयमानः । एधमानद्विळुभयस्य राजा चोष्कूयते विश इन्द्रो मनुष्यान्
The mighty one is heard, fierce, subduing, surpassing others, being led by his own force. As king, Indra exalts both the flourishing and the declining among men.
परा पूर्वेषां सख्या वृणक्ति वितर्तुराणो अपरेभिरेति । अनानुभूतीरवधून्वानः पूर्वीरिन्द्रः शरदस्तर्तरीति
He abandons the friendships of the former, moving on to others, seeking new ones. Indra, surpassing the old, leaves behind the unexperienced, crossing over many years.
रूपंरूपं प्रतिरूपो बभूव तदस्य रूपं प्रतिचक्षणाय । इन्द्रो मायाभिः पुरुरूप ईयते युक्ता ह्यस्य हरयः शता दश
He has become a counterpart to every form; that is his form for each observer. Indra, with his many forms, moves by his powers; his ten times a hundred steeds are harnessed.
युजानो हरिता रथे भूरि त्वष्टेह राजति । को विश्वाहा द्विषतः पक्ष आसत उतासीनेषु सूरिषु
Yoking the bay steeds to his chariot, he shines greatly here, O Tvaṣṭṛ. Who can always withstand the hostile sides, whether seated or among the shining ones?
अगव्यूति क्षेत्रमागन्म देवा उर्वी सती भूमिरंहूरणाभूत् । बृहस्पते प्र चिकित्सा गविष्टावित्था सते जरित्र इन्द्र पन्थाम्
We have come to the field of cattle, O gods; the wide earth has become broad and spacious. O Bṛhaspati, show care for the prize; knowing, Indra, the path for the singer.
दिवेदिवे सदृशीरन्यमर्धं कृष्णा असेधदप सद्मनो जाः । अहन्दासा वृषभो वस्नयन्तोदव्रजे वर्चिनं शम्बरं च
Day by day, the black ones, born of the house, perished, each one like the other. The bull slew the Dāsa, Vasnaya, and in the enclosure, Varcina and Śambara.
प्रस्तोक इन्नु राधसस्त इन्द्र दश कोशयीर्दश वाजिनोऽदात् । दिवोदासादतिथिग्वस्य राधः शाम्बरं वसु प्रत्यग्रभीष्म
Indeed, Indra gave Prastoka ten chariots, ten horses, ten prizes. From Divodāsa and Atithigva he received the wealth of Śambara.
दशाश्वान्दश कोशान्दश वस्त्राधिभोजना । दशो हिरण्यपिण्डान्दिवोदासादसानिषम्
Ten horses, ten chariots, ten garments, and abundant food; ten lumps of gold I obtained from Divodāsa.
दश रथान्प्रष्टिमतः शतं गा अथर्वभ्यः । अश्वथः पायवेऽदात्
Ten chariots with seats, a hundred cows, Atharvan received. Aśvatha gave to Pāyu.
महि राधो विश्वजन्यं दधानान्भरद्वाजान्सार्ञ्जयो अभ्ययष्ट
Sārñjaya bestowed upon the Bharadvājas great and all-generating wealth.
वनस्पते वीड्वङ्गो हि भूया अस्मत्सखा प्रतरणः सुवीरः । गोभिः संनद्धो असि वीळयस्वास्थाता ते जयतु जेत्वानि
O Lord of the Forest, may you be strong-limbed, our friend, a crossing, heroic. Bound with cows, be victorious; may your standing bring us success in conquest.
दिवस्पृथिव्याः पर्योज उद्भृतं वनस्पतिभ्यः पर्याभृतं सहः । अपामोज्मानं परि गोभिरावृतमिन्द्रस्य वज्रं हविषा रथं यज
From heaven and earth, raised up, from the trees, gathered together, is strength. The vigor of the waters, surrounded by cows, offer Indra's bolt, the chariot, with oblation.
इन्द्रस्य वज्रो मरुतामनीकं मित्रस्य गर्भो वरुणस्य नाभिः । सेमां नो हव्यदातिं जुषाणो देव रथ प्रति हव्या गृभाय
Indra's bolt is the front of the Maruts, the embryo of Mitra, the navel of Varuṇa. Accepting this offering, O god, take up the chariot for our oblation.
उप श्वासय पृथिवीमुत द्यां पुरुत्रा ते मनुतां विष्ठितं जगत् । स दुन्दुभे सजूरिन्द्रेण देवैर्दूराद्दवीयो अप सेध शत्रून्
Direct your breath toward the earth and the sky; let your presence be acknowledged in many places throughout the world. O drum, together with Indra and the gods, drive away enemies from afar, push them further away.
आ क्रन्दय बलमोजो न आ धा नि ष्टनिहि दुरिता बाधमानः । अप प्रोथ दुन्दुभे दुच्छुना इत इन्द्रस्य मुष्टिरसि वीळयस्व
Resound, O drum, with strength and power; strike down hardships as you thunder. Drive away misfortune, O drum; you are Indra’s fist—fall upon the wicked.
आमूरज प्रत्यावर्तयेमाः केतुमद्दुन्दुभिर्वावदीति । समश्वपर्णाश्चरन्ति नो नरोऽस्माकमिन्द्र रथिनो जयन्तु
Rise up, O drum, turn these omens back; let the drum sound forth with signs of victory. May our charioteers, with horses swift as the wind, move together; Indra, may our warriors win.
यज्ञायज्ञा वो अग्नये गिरागिरा च दक्षसे । प्रप्र वयममृतं जातवेदसं प्रियं मित्रं न शंसिषम्
With sacrifice after sacrifice, with song after song, we praise Agni for skill. We proclaim the immortal, Jātavedas, our dear friend, as Mitra is praised.
