He who is much-invoked, much-glorified, the only one praised by many sacrifices, is like a chariot yoked for great power; may Indra be praised by us.
Hymns do not harm him, nor do words, but rather they increase Indra; even if a hundred or a thousand singers praise the song-loving one, all that is for him.
For him, as for Indra, I bring forth this Soma with a shining hymn, as if measuring out the months; like a man seeking water in a desert, when the offerings and sacrifices together have grown strong.
For him, for mighty Indra, I have spoken this praise with my thoughts, this hymn for him; just as when he, the great slayer of obstacles, is present, Indra is the protector of all life and the ever-growing one.
When, O bounteous one, will you grant the enduring wealth of chariots, when will you give the thousandfold prosperity in response to our hymn? When will you, with your riches, make our praise fruitful, and when will you bestow thoughts rich in prizes?
When indeed, O Indra, will you, with men among men, with heroes among heroes, bring victory? On the threefold earth, may you win glory among the cows; Indra, grant us shining fame and light.
When indeed, O Indra, will you, for the worshipper, perform the all-encompassing act of strength? When will you accept our thoughts and helpers, and when will you come to the offerings rich in cows?
Bestow upon the worshipper wealth rich in cows, horses, and glory, O Indra, and place the nourishing treasures with the Bharadvājas; make the shining, ever-yielding cow flourish among them.
May that mighty one, even if opposed, not abandon us when you, O heroic one, have made your weapon ready; do not leave the Angirases without the milk of the bright-yielding cow—O inspired one, win with prayer.
Your exhilarations are all-creating, your riches are all earthly; you are the universal distributor of prizes, when you, O lordly one, uphold your divine power among the gods.
All people have sought his strength, all have taken hold of his might for heroism; in the house of the weaver and for the swift one, they choose wisdom, even for the slaying of Vṛtra.
To him, Indra, the united helpers bring manly deeds and heroic powers; like rivers into the ocean, the hymns with their force flow toward him, whose expanse is wide.
You, Indra, send forth the desire for wealth to the singer, you are the lord of the radiant treasure; you have become the unrivaled master of peoples, the sole king of all the world.
So listen with your hearing, you who are invoked, as heaven and earth listen to the noble one; may you, acting with your power, do for us as you have done before, being wise in every age.
Let your harnessed bays, O Indra, bring you here, you who are chosen by all; for even the poor man calls upon you, the bringer of light—we would share your feast today.
The bays have come to the vessel, the deeds are accomplished, they have become pure and straight; may Indra, the ancient, drink of this, the strong, the king of the Soma exhilaration.
The well-yoked horses, eager for strength, have approached Indra, the well-made chariots; let the straight ones carry the fame, even now, and may the immortal one of the wind not be left behind.
Indra, most generous, directs the right hand of the bountiful; with which, O wielder of the bolt, you drive away distress, and, bold one, you grant riches to the generous.
Indra is the giver of enduring strength, may Indra, great in might, be increased by our songs; may Indra, the slayer of Vṛtra, be victorious—thus the generous one fills the eager.
He has set forth, and the most brilliant dawns have arisen; Indra has brought great and glorious praise. The bountiful one seeks the wise intention, the divine path, and the gift of the generous man.
From afar, the ears of him who dwells resound to the thunderous voice of Indra, proclaiming aloud. This invocation of the gods has turned toward Indra, the Madra woman sings this hymn to him.
With highest thought, we have approached that ageless Indra from ancient times, with hymns. The sacred utterances and songs are placed in him, and the great praise grows upon Indra.
The sacrifice increases him, and Soma, and Indra; the sacred chant, the songs, the hymns, and my words increase him. The dawns, the paths of night, the months, the years, and the heavens all increase Indra.
Thus, I praise the one born for strength, who is exalted for generosity and fame. O mighty, fierce one, for protection, O sage, now let us call you in the battles against the foe.
Of the delightful poet, the heavenly fire, the sage, the mind, the speech, and the honeyed words—grant us the favor of that companion among the gods, O youthful one, for the singer who seeks the cows.
He, shining, circles the mountain, the dawns, with thoughts aligned to truth and yoked to righteousness. He breaks the rugged ridge, the summit of the vale, Indra attacks the Panis with words.
He shines, the radiant one, illuminating the nights and the days, the seasons, Indra. They have placed this sign, even now, for the days; born pure, he has fashioned the dawns.
He brightens with light, shining with radiance; he fills the ancient ones with truth. He moves with horses yoked to righteousness, knowing the sun, the leaders travel at the navel.
Now, the singer praises you, ancient king; enrich the former treasures for the giver of wealth. Remove the herbs, the forests, the cows, the horses, the men—grant them for our delight.
Indra, drink the Soma pressed for you, for delight; let your steeds be released for companionship. Come, sing, gather, sit with the hosts; come to the sacrifice, accept the praise and vigor.
