This is your power, O Indra, renowned, by which you slew the remnant of Varaśikha. Even from your thunderbolt, when it was struck, a mighty sound, you, Indra, split the farthest part.
Indra slew the remnant of Varaśikha, pursuing the returning and resisting one. When fighting at Hariyūpīyā for Vṛcīvant, he struck down the foremost half in fear.
Three hundred armored ones, together at Yavyāvat, O much-invoked Indra, for fame—Vṛcīvants, falling under the arrow, breaking their bowls, they came to rest.
He whose cows, reddish and of good yield, wander within, restless—he, for Sṛñjaya, gave Turvaśa away, and for Vṛcīvant, striving for Daivavāta.
Twice twenty chariot-fighters with cows, with brides, the generous lord, the sovereign, gave to me. The returning and resisting one gives; this is the gift of the Parthavas, the southern share.
The cows have come, bringing good fortune; let them settle in the stable and bellow for us. Let them be fruitful, of many forms, here; let them yield abundant milk for Indra at every dawn.
Indra provides for the sacrificer and the generous, giving freely and not withholding his own; again and again he increases the wealth of him, placing the god-loved treasure in the unbroken store.
They are not lost, nor does the thief harm them, nor does any enemy or hostile one overpower them; with these, the gods are worshipped and gifts are given, and with them the lord of cattle prospers together.
Neither the near nor the far-off predator reaches them, nor do they come to the hands of those who prepare traps; they follow the wide-ranging, fearless one—his cows roam freely, belonging to the sacrificing mortal.
Cows are fortune, cows are Indra for me; cows are the first portion of Soma; these cows, O people, are Indra— with heart and mind I desire Indra.
You cows, you make even the thin one thrive, you make even the unlovely one handsome; you make the home auspicious, your voices are auspicious, and your fame is proclaimed in the gatherings.
Full of offspring, grazing on rich pastures, drinking pure waters with good mouths—may neither thief nor evil-wisher rule over you; may you avoid the weapon of Rudra.
Let this offering be made among the cows, let it be inquired among them; let it be in the seed of the bull, in your strength, O Indra.
Men, for friendship, we have chosen Indra—great, coming for our favor, delighting in us; for he is a great giver, wielder of the bolt—sacrifice to the mighty one for help.
In whose hand, eager for manly deeds, are the golden chariots, standing on the chariot; the reins, the grasping hands, are strong, the stallions, the mighty ones, are yoked.
For splendor, your feet, O strong one, are eager; bold, wielding the bolt, powerful, skillful; wearing a fragrant garment, pleasing to behold, O golden one, you have become the leader of men.
That Soma, most mingled, is pressed; in him the meal is cooked, the grains are present; praising Indra, the men, makers of hymns, reciting praises, most inspired by the gods.
There is no end to your might, O powerful one; your greatness has not been confined by heaven and earth; the sun fills them, moving swiftly, like a leader assembling the troops in the waters.
Thus is Indra, easily invoked, exalted, praised and unpraised, with tawny beard, mighty; so born, unequaled in strength, he slays many foes and casts down the Dasyus.
Ever more he has grown in strength; alone, undecaying, he dispenses treasures; Indra has expanded over heaven and earth, taking half of both worlds for himself.
Then I consider his great lordship—what he upholds, none diminishes; day by day the sun appears to be seen, the dwellings are wide, the wise one has established them.
Even today, O Indra, you have made a path for the waters, when you have led them forth; the mountains, like those sitting at the meal, did not stand firm; by you, O wise one, the firm regions were opened.
Truly, there is no other god like you, Indra, nor any mortal greater; you slew the serpent lying in the waters, you released the waters to flow to the sea.
You, Indra, have divided the waters, parted the barriers, shattered the mountain's firmness; you became king of the moving peoples, together generating the sun, the sky, and the dawn.
You alone, O Indra, lord of riches, have become the master of wealth; you have placed the peoples in your two hands. In offspring, in waters, in sons, in the sun, the peoples speak forth various words.
Because of your might, O Indra, all things on earth, even the immovable, tremble; the realms, the heavens and earth, the mountains and forests—all that is firm is made to fear by your birth.
With Kutsa, O Indra, you fought against Shushna and Kuyava in the contest for the cows; for ten generations, you have divided the treasures of the sun and shattered the fortresses of the thieves.
You have destroyed hundreds of forts of Shambara, the unconquerable of the Dasyus; with your power, you have brought riches for Divodāsa, who presses Soma, and for Bharadvāja, who praises you.
O mighty one of true strength, mount your chariot for great battle, O Indra, of terrible power; come on the path with new riches to our aid, and make our praises heard among the peoples.
For him, the mighty, the most powerful, the heroic, the strong, the wielder of the thunderbolt, Virapśin, I fashion new, most pleasing words, for the ancient one.
